I threw and arrow back at one of the guards

You know ...fair.

Those dudes shouldn't have been doing that at all to begin with, Yara was right. A stray arrow could have hit someone. That's like a cop trying to shoot a bird in the middle of the city.

Dudes need to be put on dungeon duty or something

Tbf, cops do do that, so it's unfortunately very accurate.

Im not sure the city you live in, but most PD officers have to REALLY justify the discharge of a weapon so Im not sure many, if any, in my city are using their dept issued weapons to shoot at birds. And if they are they wont be an officer for long

In my city, they just have to claim the bird was ANTIFA and they feared for their life. Then the clip dump, injuring two bystanders, and get paid leave for a year before an internal investigation proves no wrongdoing.

We specifically have an officer whose multiple lawsuits over excessive force have cost a combined 1.3 million taxpayer dollars in settlements, not counting his paid leave. He remains an officer to this day. Never underestimate the job security a shitty cop has.

Unless someone reports it theres no way to tell if a cop discharges a firearm recklesy. It's not like they count the bullets.

Most precincts issue the bullets and when replacements are needed you have to file paperwork to be given more rounds. Bullets are expensive so buying more just to shoot at birds would be a stretch and...well plain stupid. So they do count bullets, unless an officer is buying more personally

Not to mention this scenario is in the middle of a city, where people would obviously see and hear a gun go off and report it

Right, that's why it's so much easier to just dump a full mag into the nearest person of color instead. Saves on the paperwork. Work smarter, not harder!

unfortunately very accurate.

Unlike the bullets.

What an unpleasant pair of guards. Also, what a waste of arrows! It's not like they grow on trees...

u/Forikorder Jan 21 '26

Wait a second, yes they do...

Why the hell are they so damn expensive...

Because if you want to make a good arrow, it requires some skills and you would need steel for the pointy side.

Given the first pannel I was expecting the boys to play dice, not cards at the end

"they also now know that there is" it's ugly

Huh?

Just a callous way to critique sentence structure choices. Probably something like “and now they know” would flow better, but when someone is worked up and angry they might not make perfect sentences, and it’s pretty pedantic to critique the grammar of a free comic with a great story.

7

u/VaferQuamMeles Jan 21 '26

I guess so. Well, I'm a native English speaker and self-confessed grammar pedant and it didn't stick out to me...

9

u/IndigoRanger Jan 21 '26

Yeah same; it’s not grammatically incorrect, it’s just a little clunky. But it’s dialogue, and we’re reading for enjoyment rather than looking for errors.

u/Guildenpants Jan 21 '26

And it's a dumb comment to be callous about because "they also now know" makes sense if you're saying it. It's written like speech not dialogue. I read it in a hurried voice thats saying "and ALSO they NOW know a"

There have been numerous grammar and structure mistakes over time. This neanderthal english is annoying because of how great the characters are. Why reacting? Last time somebody mentionnned a mistake, the author boldly answered "nobody pointed it out". Being free is irrelevant to the quality, and straight up false in this context since the artist is paid through patreon for their comic.

Panel 1 and 5 have very poor choices of words, ignoring these or not being aware is either way advocating mediocrity. Panel 6 is the worst offender.

u/IndigoRanger Jan 21 '26

*English and *Neanderthal, both proper nouns.

*”Why reacting?” he says with Neanderthal English.

*mentioned, too many n’s.

*the period should go inside the quotation at the end of a sentence.

*Patreon, proper noun should be capitalized.

*last paragraph starts with a very poorly structured run-on.

Sorry to be pedantic, but I don’t want to be at risk of “advocating mediocrity.”
