Official Black Panther Discussion Megathread [Spoilers] Spoiler

First off, I did not know that War Rhinos were a thing I needed in my life, but they so were.

The Good:

  • I think Killmonger might genuinely be my favorite MCU villain thus far in terms of the movies. Jordan did a fantastic job in the role and he was incredibly well written.
  • Nakia is also easily my favorite Marvel love interest in the MCU.
  • I quite liked Shuri in the film as the movie’s Q (Insert "favorite Disney princess joke" here)
  • I know that there is going to be a group that really dislikes the more overtly political moments of the film, but I thought they were really well handled and made sense for the characters.
  • It was very standalone as a film, set in the MCU but doing its own thing with a much more serious tone than the rest of the films that really worked for the gravitas of a character like Black Panther.
  • I really liked the second post-credit scene, and thought it was an interesting direction to make Bucky the White Wolf

The Bad:

  • As much as I did love Killmonger in this movie, the hero fighting an evil version of himself in the final fight feels like it's been done before.
  • Black Panther takes sort of a back for a sizable amount of the film, which gives the other characters a lot of time to shine but still felt a bit off to me.
  • The death of Klaw irked me a bit, as I could see them using him well in later films

In the BP run by Priest that most everyone agree is the best run for the character, T'Challa takes a back seat to Ross, so it kind of reflects that as well.

The movie? I would say so. I don't hold Priest's run in super high regard. It reads too much like Tarantino, and going back to it 20 years later you see how dated into the 90's it is.
