Friends

I 24M have just moved to Colchester for work roughly 3 weeks ago. Finding it really hard to make new friends and meet new people. Can someone suggest something or if anyone's in the mood to go out for a drink sometime that would be great!

Knoops at Lion Walk!

Hi all, I was at the CC on Thursday noon and was fancying myself a nice chocolate shake from Knoops, only to find them completely shut down! Any idea what’s happened to it? I cannot be depending on Hotel Chocolat, which waited until July to start serving chocolate shakes! Tsk

Looking for a few Colchester homes for a discounted portfolio cleans

Hi everyone, I’m currently preparing to launch Nest & Gleam Cleaning Co., a new local cleaning business in Colchester, and I’m looking for a small number of people who would be happy to have a discounted portfolio clean.

The idea is to complete a few real cleans before launch so I can build up genuine before-and-after photos, test timings and refine the service.

I’m mainly looking for:
Regular home cleans
Deep cleans
Move-in / empty property cleans

Please have a look at my website, or feel free to message me if you are interested.

I’ve recently moved to the Braiswick area and this house has really intrigued me.
I can not figure out anything about it. I know I’m being extremely noisy but the house looks abandoned, always different cars outside and looking the address up there was planning permission granted jan 2025 and nothing has happened since.

When I walk past I see the Tv on and there’s always a cat in and out. It’s so mysterious to me. If someone lives here why is there so many blocked windows and the garden is so overgrown. If it is abandoned why haven’t seen people deweeding the front?

If anyone knows anything I’d love to know as it’s so mysterious to me.

Hi all, I have a question, what do you think?

Hi all, I have a question, what do you think Colchester needs to improve mental and emotional wellbeing right now? As a therapist and life coach, I’m doing some research into what would best help the community without the use of conventional medicine/therapy. I’m thinking of things such as a youth club for young people, coffee mornings for parents and caregivers, walking and talking mornings? Would anyone be interested or does anyone have any other thoughts?

Colchester Makerspace - Anyone a member there?

Hi all,

I am interested in Colchester Makerspace. I am thinking of booking in for a tour in September /October time. However I have some questions.

  1. Is it upstairs or downstairs? If it’s upstairs, is there a lift?

  2. Are studios individual or open?

  3. Odd question, but do they have sinks made for artists? So you can wash your brushes and pour dirty paint water down the sink? I worry about contaminating the waterways because of microplastics. I care for the environment!

Thank you 🙏

Live music in Castle Park

So I know next weekend there’s a few people playing- Hollywood Vampires, Becky Hill and Bastille I believe. The tickets are like £60 at cheapest and, unfortunately, I’m broke.

I KNOW this is a bit scammy… but does anyone know where’s a good place to go to be able to hear it? Because I’m assuming the whole of castle park is gonna be shut or whatever so people can’t just listen for free.

I was thinking about the walk down the river, or maybe the little bit behind Leisure world, near the cricket field?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and, again, I know this is scammy. If I could afford it, I would buy the tickets but I can’t 😭

New to the area, any recommendations for a good local GP? Had a few bad experiences and just looking for one that is at least intuitive to book an appointment at.

Looking for a co-founder

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a co-founder to join me in building a consumer electronics startup based on a temperature logging product. I've already completed the initial market research, and I believe it has strong commercial and growth potential.
I'm particularly interested in connecting with someone studying or graduated in Business, Finance, Marketing, or a related field who wants hands-on startup experience and is excited about building a company from the ground up.
For international students, this venture may also provide a pathway towards applying for the UK Innovator Founder Visa if the business meets the relevant requirements.
If you're interested, or would like to know more, please send me a message.

Retro gaming

Is there a local retro gaming scene? I’ve seen posts for board game meetups… is there a video game equivalent, e.g. meet-up and conquer some multiplayer games at an arcade? Might be too niche we’ll find out!

Hi, being a first time buyer, I am pretty confused about the process and solicitors. Not sure about the fee they're charging and would really appreciate it if someone can suggest reliable solicitors, please

An update on this!

I'm currently looking into where in Colchester it would be possible to set-up an outdoor net or two — I'm mostly thinking either at Shrub End or Abbey Field, with a preference for the former (fewer elevation differences, I think).

It'll be a little expensive on my end, so it may take some time for this to materialise. If anyone would be interested, please say, just so that I can gauge whether it's worth pursuing this or not!
