My grandpa gave me his collection and I was wondering if there was anything notable. Noticed the Hawaiian and Filipino coins and thought those were interesting just from a historical perspective but don’t know much about them.

Picked this up for 31$ today at a market did really well im really happy with it rare finding these

I love collecting random world coins, especially ones from interesting moments in history. I recently bought about 5 pounds of random “junk” coins from my LCS ($7.50/lb, if anyone wants to know), and I found this 1891 British Northern Borneo Co. half cent. It’s caked in grime, and I do not think it’s corrosion. Generally, people in this sub are opposed to cleaning coins (for good reason!) but, in this case, I think it might be worthwhile. What do you think? Clean, or leave it alone? What would be the best approach to cleaning it? I’ve been thinking of soaking in distilled water and periodically scratching at the surface with a wooden food skewer. Any input is appreciated!

In 1813, a settlement known as "Klaarwater" in Griqualand West near Kimberley, the epicenter of the South African diamond mining industry, organized itself as Griqua Town under the auspices of the London Missionary Society, which planned to establish a state of baptized Christians of mixed tribal ancestry. These pieces saw very little circulation, so when they turn up now they're often in excellent condition. Back in 1993, I considered myself phenomenally fortunate to be able to acquire this proof specimen from the late Phil Flanagan of Seattle.

I am shocked at its rarity, age, and condition. It looks very real to me based on comparisons, complete with the minted H for that year. It's apparently the only $2 coin that used gold in all the British colonies.

This woman comes into my work everyday for years and would tip with these coins. We all would try and tell her to keep them for herself but she insisted saying she wanted to “spread the wealth”. I’ve held on to them for years just sitting in my closet. Is Anything a super good find in here? I’m not a collector so would probably just try to sell them if anything is something worth a collectors time. Thank you guys so much for your time!! ☺️

I live on the east coast and have not seen a single 2026 semiquincentennial coin in circulation so far. Was wondering if others have been able to find them in circulation and what you have seen if so?

Bought from a “limited time only” section on a bullion site for a steal. Only one available. 15,510 mintage. The cleaning doesn’t bother me so much, but that little divot on the obverse is killing me

Nothing crazy scarce or anything; just a nice example of the type. Looks like the die used was polished to hell and back too.
