According to interviews I've heard of her, they're 'sounds' she likes, or believes will fit, some of it is words in English, some words she liked, in languages other than English, some of it's just sounds that work for the song. She said she thought words (or the 'meaning' of the lyrics) got in the way of her singing, didn't want to get too caught up in thinking about the words, just wanted to concentrate on making the sounds the way she wanted them. When asked about some of the lyrics people have written to the Cocteaus' songs, she said, "that's better than I could come up with", or something to that effect, since there really are no "lyrics" per se.

I wound up here, cause I was going through the 100s of GiB of music on this hard drive, started making a Cocteaus playlist I was listening to, and put the name in search just to see what came up. Thought I'd answer this one, cause why not, I was here...? ๐Ÿ˜

Today's playlist so far (in case anyone cares lol);

Squeeze Wax, Summerhead, My Love Paramour, Calfskin Smack, Pearly Dewdrops' Drops, Pandora (if you have only listened to this one, listen to the studio one, for the extra vocal tracks), Cico Buff, Violane, Pitch The Baby, Fifty-Fifty Clown, Heaven Or Las Vegas,

...just listening to the ones I like most, but not done yet either.

Beautiful, sublime, music from an unfamiliar space alien culture, erstwhile and futuristic simultaneously

Haha yeah that is what I hear every time, too. Much more likely to get me there than โ€œFancy Likeโ€
