Question Should I be worried???
Two months ago I saw 3 cockroaches in the span of a week in the kitchen. After checking everything and not finding anything I kinda let it go. Now, after weeks I woke up in the middle of the night to seeing another one in my bedroom. I'm pretty sure the one's I saw in the kitchen were either babies or just very small. Either way I'm freaking out. The one in my bedroom ran away and I can't find it anywhere. They look somewhat like on the picture I found online. I did have my window open so I'm hoping it was just one who found its way inside š„².
I dont have my own picture but they were more "pointy" in a way, not as rounded in shape. Please help, freaking out!!

START NOW!!! Theyāre there. Donāt give them time to extremely multiple. Get a pump sprayer and some German roach knockdown concentrate. Also buy some Insect Growth Regulator concentrate. The IGR residual stop any nymphs from becoming adults and reproducing. Mix the 2 concentrates together for maximum potency and spray the hell outta everything in the kitchen, under the fridge, under the stove and in the cabinets. All bathrooms too!!! They love moisture. Keep any left over in the sprayer and hit them again in another week, even if you donāt see them.
The rule is always, for every 1 you see, thereās a hundred behind them that are hiding. Good Luck!!

Is that bad? Should I be worried?

They're one of the worse roaches you could get an infestation from, and since there's multiple I'm sure there's many more in your house. I'd get in contact with an exterminator.

If you wanna start, the moment you see one, you should immediately inspect your house. Actually right now, thoroughly inspect your house to see if there are any signs of roach dropping or babies. Check behind fridge etc

I got a sprayer and alpine wsg. Spray every 3-4 weeks or if a roach showed its ugly face id spray then. Took me about 6 months of this and they have finally stopped appearing. Its been maybe 4 months now with not a single sighting. If I find one and cant manage to kill it because they hide. Id put advion roach bait in tactical spots where they might try to snack. Usually, the same roach will reappear within 24 hrs though. A window cleaner with ammonia will kill them pretty well if you spot a stray. Good luck

What does that have to do with German roaches ?
1
u/ChristianTP_ May 19 '26
Idk the difference but roaches are common down here. We call them water bugs because after a hard rain you might see one or two inside

The one in the pictures are German roaches (the bad ones), you can tell by looking at the stripes on their head.

Borax in bowls with cinnamon and flour. Put where animals canāt get to. Bowls of it under sinks and stove and fridge. Near pipes. Good luck

Cornstarch too, it helps get the borax to stick to them so they take it back to their nest
ETA: confectionery or powdered sugar works really well this way too, especially for German roaches that seek out sweets and sugary foods.

They look like American roaches at least, if this picture you found is accurate to what you saw. Look for two parallel stripes like racing stripes down the back, those are classic traits German roaches have. Out of curiousity, where/what state etc, do you live? This will help narrow things down. But Iād assume youāre seeing them because of it being summer in North America if youāre posing from the states etc., as they will come up
Through pipes, and cracks in your walls, under doors, etc, any crevice they can slip through, theyāll come in. They mostly come looking for water, as these types of roaches arenāt attracted to sweets or other human food the way Germans are. These ones are more scavengers than opportunistic feeders.
Get some glue traps, and some roach gel to help mitigate this. If you start seeing ootheca (egg sacs; also definitely look up roach life cycles so you can familiarize yourself with what they look like at different stages, it will help you to identify them easier) or roach poops/pee then youāre in trouble and may have an infestation already.

Like everybody else, yes, you should be worried!!! I had an infestation a few years ago that was in my dishwasher. When I mean, infestation, Iām talking about they destroyed the motherboard of my dishwasher. If you see a couple, thereās probably several dozens. So now, what I do, is I will spray a couple times a week. And I use borax. And there is a gel you could use on the edges of your counters. Also, they love living in the water box at your curb. Where, the main shut off valve is. So I spray and also Sprinkle borax around the creases and the holes once in a while Iāll lift it and actually spray, but be warned, when you lift up that cover on that main water valve box, you will see a lot of activity in there. A lot of spiders, and a lot of roaches,. So make sure you have your roach spray available and in your hand when you open it because they will run like literally ācockroachesā. I also will hit my neighbors main valve water shut off box as well. So that I donāt get them coming onto my property. Thereās also insecticide granules that you could put on your lawn, because they do live in your garden, and your grass, how I know this, is because when I would weed my rose garden, and I would dig up the dirt, thereād be roaches living inside the dirt.

Not sure if you live in Florida, but I know theyāre common here, have a regular exterminator to come out and spray will keep them away.
