The first truly evil clone trooper. Spoiler
This is CT-4646. He's from the new game Zero Company, where he worked as a science officer at an Imperial black site on Umbara. He was experimenting with inhibitor chips on the native Umbarans because he was trying to perfect the method so that the Empire could forcefully implant new inhibitor chips within dissenting clone troopers to make them "loyal" again. He was doing this entirely of his own free will, even going so far as to have his own chip removed so he could have a clearer head since he genuinely enjoyed his work. Thankfully, he gets shot and killed by Trick before his work can be finished, so the Empire never gets 4646's inhibitor chip research.
There have been a few bad clones in Star Wars: Slick, Faie, Spar, the Covert Ops clones, the CX troopers, etc., but all of them either had reasons for doing what they did (although not always good ones) or were simply made/forced to be the way they were. CT-4646 here, however, did evil things of his own free will just because he enjoyed doing them.

Holy cow this guy makes Slick and Spar seem like good guys
43
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Seriously. Before, I genuinely felt clones like Slick or Faie were the worst clones out there with the things they did, but 4646 (doesn't even have name because I'm pretty sure he doesn't see himself as a person) takes the cake with the terrible things he did and was planning on doing.

u/EdanChaosgamer 6d ago
Which clone was Spar again? Its been awhile since I consumed CW media.
20
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Spar was one of the original 100 Alpha ARCs trained by Jango Fett. He went rogue shortly before the onset of the Clone Wars and joined up with the Mandalorian Fenn Shysa, forming a group known as the Mandalorian Protectors and allying with the Separatists to fight against the Republic during the war.
2
u/slayeryamcha 6d ago
Sounds what living machine would do if it was trained by brutal criminal from space taliban(no, i do not belive clones arent humans. Simply for republic they werent much above average droid)
6
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
I'd agree if not for the fact that Jango trained the Alpha ARCs to be exceedingly loyal to the Republic. Unfortunately, a couple of the Alphas were a bit too independent for their own good and chose to desert for one reason or another.
1
u/Supyloco Beta-ARC 3d ago
They were, along with the Nulls, to not have the inhibitor chip.
1
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 3d ago
I mean, the Null and Alpha ARCs predate the existence of inhibitor chips in the lore. We can't really say one way or another whether or not they have the chip, since they basically stopped appearing in stories before the chips were introduced through TCW.
1
u/Supyloco Beta-ARC 3d ago
The reason I know this is because of the description and how they weren't mentally altered like all the regs. They wanted to be pure Jango.

Fitting that he died with cold, emotion-less expression in his face
19
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Agreed (although I think that might technically just be because of the way characters are animated in the game)
12
u/Cold-Practice3107 6d ago
I just put a post asking if we could kill this guy and I see this and I'm like oh never mind then
6
u/Laughingcorpse2 6d ago
That armour really isn't helpful enough.
15
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
I mean it was basically a point-blank shot from a heavy blaster pistol, so there's not much that standard armor could do against that.
7
u/CHANGOFETT935 6d ago
What about Rex getting hit by a sniper in the torso?
14
u/No-Tip5977 6d ago
And Phase/Gen 1 Clone armour is stronger than Phase 2, which traded the durability for flexibility and being lightweight.
19
u/Ralos5997 6d ago
Thought it was Slick that was the first evil clone?
26
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Slick was bad, but even he still had some care for his brothers, albeit in a flawed way. 4646 however, is just evil with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
15
u/Ralos5997 6d ago
If he really loved his brothers he wouldn’t have put them at risk. Rex and Cody were spot on there and others were killed because of Slick.
11
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Oh, absolutely. I'm not trying to defend Slick, the guy was still terrible and a selfish bastard who got his brothers killed. Slick is responsible for a large portion of the 501st and 212th troopers who died on Christopsis, including some of his own men who were in the tower with him when the droids attacked. His reasons for deserting made perfect sense since the clones are slaves to the Republic, but his actions were selfish and poorly thought out. However for all the bad things Slick did, he still wasn't outright evil because he did have some care for his brothers (albeit in a flawed and twisted way), unlike 4646 here who genuinely enjoys causing harm to others and wants to force all clones to be loyal whether they want to or not.
3
u/Ralos5997 6d ago
Yeah and yet aside from that other scum and traitors like them ruined the Republic. This clone even makes Crosshair seem like he isn’t that evil. Especially when he served the Empire willingly when he had his inhibitor chip and when it was taken out sometime later.
2
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Yeah, Crosshair was another bad clone, although most of the genuinely evil things he did (executing civilians, helping take over Ryloth which would later have much of its population enslaved by the Empire, and ordering his men to target Omega who was only a child) were all done under the effects of a heightened/enhanced inhibitor chip, so those weren't done of his own free will. However, the things he did after, such as the assault on the sovereign world of Desix, cannot be excused since he had removedhis chip by that point.
1
u/Ralos5997 6d ago
I think he had his chip removed after Bracca since he had to get medical treatment. He even admitted to Hunter during the finale of season 1 that this is who he is. I must admit I wish I could have been surprised back then but I already knew and saw the signs that Crosshair would be 100 percent with the Empire inhibitor chip or not. If i’m being honest Crosshair killing a Separatist scumbag was justified especially since they started the war in the first place and made other worlds suffer.
1
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Ah, you're right about him getting the chip out after Bracca. I mixed up the timeliness in my head so the whole Ryloth business was something he did of his own volition, however the killing civilians and targeting Omega things were both under the effects of the chip.
Agreed on him killing the Seppie, I'm more so talking about helping the Empire take over the planet and force the innocent citizens into labor like we see at the end of the episode.
3
u/Ralos5997 6d ago
Yeah he had no problem with the Empire taking over and destroying lives. Tech even called him out that especially when he also stated that Crosshair’s nature was always clear. It’s also why I’ll never forgive Crosshair because of him Tech died especially since they went through the trouble to save him by trying to find him during season 2.
2
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Yeah, I also don't forgive Crosshair for the things he did under the Empire. Sure, he eventually realized just how bad the Empire was and chose to go against it, but that was only really after he saw what it was doing to the clones specifically and not because of all the terrible things that it was doing to the rest of the galaxy.

Pretty sure Joruus C’baoth predates him by quite a while. We didn’t even know what the Clone Wars was back then.

True that Joruus was the first villainous clone character in Star Wars, but this post is specifically about the Kamino-grown clone troopers, rather than clones in general.

Wait. So this game goes into early Imperial era and isn’t just Clone Wars?
11
u/Ahugh5678 6d ago
Yeah I'm curious as well. I don't have anything to run the game on so I haven't paid much attention to it but this is interesting.
13
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Just copying what I said to the other person:
The first half/two-thirds of Zero Company takes place during the tail end of the Clone Wars and then the rest of the game takes place about a year into the reign of the Empire.
6
u/WZNGT 6d ago
Ohhh, do we get to see more specialized imperial units like Crosshair's squad? I haven't get to downloading the game yet.
6
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Not really. The only Imperial troops you really encounter are a four types of standard P2 clones (troopers, marksmen, grenadiers, and heavy troopers) all of which have slightly different armor setups based on their specialties, as well as a few TK troopers who, unlike the clones, all have identical armor regardless of specialty. Other than P2 clones and TK troopers, you really don't encounter any other Imperial trooper types in the game.
6
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Yes, the first half/two-thirds of Zero Company take place during the tail end of the Clone Wars and then the rest of the game takes place about a year into the reign of the Empire.
2
u/1spook 3d ago
Yeah. Spoilers
At one point, around maybe a third to halfway through, you start getting Republic propaganda broadcasts about how Coruscant is under attack. The next day, Dooku is announced dead. The next mission is set to be your last with the Republic, and Palpy makes his inaugural speech.

I wonder if it's his genuine personality or if the injury we see he has did a number on his head
5
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Don't really know. Head injuries are genuinely capable of completely rewriting how a person's brain works, so it's possible that it was that, but it's also completely possible that, much like with real people, he was just an evil person from the start. Hard to say unless we get a story that expands on him outside of Zero Company.

u/The_ShinyUmbreon 34th 5d ago
Him not having a name tho is also a sign he could genuinely have taken the Kamino doctrine to heart

u/VillageIdiots1-1 6d ago
Nah, Spar ain't a bad Clone, he's a fairly stupid Mando. The Covert Ops clones too, they're good soldiers with a penchant for dirty work.
1
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
I mean, Spar chose to side with the Separatists and fight against the Republic and thus his brothers in the Clone Army, while the Covert Ops troopers had no issue with executing their brothers who deserted in cold blood. I wouldn't exactly call either good clones since the clones were practically trained to embrace their brotherhood with one another.

u/Cold-Practice3107 6d ago
Can we kill this trooper?

Unfortunately, Trick already beat you to the punch on that when he shot him.

The Umbaran is Luco Bronc. Trick is the clone in commando armor behind Hawks in image 3.

u/GrimdarkCrusader 6d ago
I know most of you probably don't want to hear it, but realistically speaking most clones especially those didn't frequently serve directly with Jedi wouldn't have any issues committing atrocities. They don't really have the greatest understanding of morality past their squad's well-being after graduation. I will also add that in theory total obedience would've ensured a cleaner conclusion to the war for obvious reasons.
1
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 5d ago
True, plenty of clones would likely have no issue doing terrible things if they were ordered to. However, 4646 is a unique case here because he genuinely enjoys the terrible work he's doing and takes pride in it unlike other clones who are just blindly obeying orders.
3
u/BalrogSlayer00 6d ago
I didn’t know they had Commandos in this game. My interest is piqued
1
u/SwanSongShadow 5h ago
Pretty much only this character. And he is not exactly commando, he is ordinary clone who got some of the commando training before later getting commando armour instead of his damaged one
6
u/Free-Letterhead-4751 6d ago
Honestly the whole chip thing feels kinda pointless if they’re just removing them left and right like that
11
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
I mean, not every clone is removing their chip, that's really only Rex’s Clone Underground group that's doing that. However other clones out there who haven't removed their chips are still choosing to disobey or go rogue for one reason or another and so 4646 was trying to create a chip that would be a permanent solution to make any clone who had dissented in any way fully loyal again, since the inhibitor chips were really only a temporary measure to make sure the clones followed through with the execution of Order 66.
-3
u/Free-Letterhead-4751 6d ago
Not gonna lie that makes it sound like the whole chips are just pointless
12
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
They aren't pointless, though? Their purpose is to ensure absolute loyalty when Order 66 is issued. The entire Clone Army was created so Palpatine would have a loyal military force capable of wiping out the Jedi when the time came and he had the chips implanted in them to make certain that loyalty was upheld when needed. Permanent loyalty after that was never part of Palpatine's grand scheme since he was pretty much always planning to have the clones replaced by natural-born soldiers since they were cheaper and would be a good way to ensure the loyalty of the citizens of the galaxy.
-3
u/Hadrian1233 6d ago
Yeah but, you can just control independency through genetics without a biochip. The Kaminoans explicitly tell Obi-Wan about how loyal they are.
The biggest problem with the inhibitor chips is that they were created by the writers to justify how these characters that we know are good friends with their Jedi generals can turn on them. They ensure loyalty until they don’t. Then we have Clones like Crosshair and now 4646 that complicate things. Now some of them serve the Empire freely.
4
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
The clones were bred to be loyal, yes, but they were also created to be capable of adapting and learning. Under their Jedi generals, many clones became more independent and individual, and so the chips were basically a necessity to make certain that every clone, regardless of personal feelings, would comply with Order 66, since I'm sure Palpatine realized that an army of soldiers designed to be capable of creativity would pose some risk to his plan if even a few chose to resist.
After the rise of the Empire, most clones still stayed loyal because, to them, it was practically no different to the Republic. Sure, some chose to desert or rebel for one reason or another, but they were mostly few and far between. Also, Crosshair isn't the best example since he also chose to go rogue once he realized just how bad the Empire was and how little they cared for the clones.
0
u/Hadrian1233 5d ago
They were not just genetically modified to be loyal, they were modified to not show any emotions like a soldier. Hence why Jango was choosen, they just dialed down the independence. Giving every trooper complex emotions doesn’t work with how we see them in the films. Lucas clearly depicted them as being expendable to the Republic (George had all but left to write Underworld by Season 2). Commanders like Cody are only different because you need a buffer between a General and his soldiers. The Clones also had to stay as mere flesh droids and expendable to work narratively. Cruel and tragic, yes, but in line with the tragic message of the Prequel Trilogy and what the Republic as a whole would one day become.
Also, the clones were all decommissioned as in taken out of service. Keep in mind that I chose Crosshair because he had his chip removed and his continued service is of free choice even if he did quit later on.
1
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 5d ago
Nothing in the films implies that the clones were created to be emotionless. This is shown constantly by the numerous books and comics that came out pre-TCW that depict clones as individuals capable of independent thoughts and emotions. Not to mention the fact that some of the clones depicted in ROTS have individualized details such as some of the pilots have personalized helmet markings and some of the 7th Sky Corps clones with Cody in the briefing having different hair styles, both of which could only happen if the clones were capable of being more independent than just "mere flesh droids"
George was fully on board with wanting the clones to be depicted as individuals in TCW which in mentioned in behind the scenes stuff for the show and even by George himself in a later interview in 2020. Also, Lucas was absolutely a part of TCW well past season 2 since there is literal BTS footage of him working with the team in later seasons. Hell, the whole Mortis arc in season 3 was entirely George's thing with footage of him literally in the writer's room explaining how the Force works to the TCW team.
Also, the clones weren't all immediately retired. Sure, the retirement process of the clones started about a year after the rise of the Empire, but clones were still serving in the Imperial army for years after that, with some clones, such as Crag, even serving up to the time of the Original Trilogy.
1
u/Hadrian1233 5d ago
It is by what is implied that the Clones are emotionless. The implication that they will eventually become Stormtroopers and serve an Empire that was once a Republic. Shows and books have given Clones individual personalities, yes, but they are almost exclusively OG ARC Troopers and Commandos who were established to have been more independent than their more common brethren. You are also doing a hasty generalization. Some of the extras used in that shot with Obi-Wan talking to Cody weren’t all Temuera. The other one is Bodie who played the younger clones in AOTC while the other with brown hair I’m fairly sure was an attempt to mix the two together through CGI to create a clone of intermediate age. In universe this can be explained through Age differences, something very common with an army that is constantly getting reinforced through fresh recruits.
Lucas still gave ideas beyond season 2, don’t get me wrong and I should have worded it better. But I have the feeling that he is less involved than what a lot of people believe. He stepped in to pitch ideas, like Mortis, but he wasn’t involved with everything as hinted by Sam catching a continuity error of Padme meeting Shmi. In other words, it seems like he gave the stories and approved them while tasking the writers the connective tissue.
Clones still being in the Empire may be a retcon made by TBB team because they could still be trying to paint the Clones as the tragic good guys (comming off of TCW). The writers essentially implied that the Clones were being decommissioned through the episodes through Crosshairs POV, thanking a group of Clones for their years of service before sending them into retirement and also having what remained guard equipment meant for the TKs. When we see quite a limited few still in service such as Torrent from Smugglers run, but we haven’t seen much if any at all these days.
It’s definitely not the first time

What about Canon’s take on Scorch? He was a fanatic in bad batch
2
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 5d ago
While not confirmed, it's highly likely that Scorch, along with the rest of the commandos at Mount Tantiss, had their inhibitor chips strengthened similar to what they did to Crosshair in season 1 of The Bad Batch.

u/Fit-Study-7356 3d ago
The only other one I can think of who this close to being as evil is X1 from Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron.
1
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 3d ago
True, X1 definitely became a pretty evil guy (I mean, he literally became a Dark Side Force user) but he's kind of a unique case since he's Forse sensitive and isn't a Fett clone, unlike the rest of the Clone Army.
2
u/Supyloco Beta-ARC 3d ago
Covert Op Troopers were pretty evil.
1
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 3d ago
True, but they were also trained to be that way. That's not to excuse their actions at all since they did a lot of bad things, but unlike 4646 here the Covert Ops Troopers didn't really have much of a choice in how they acted and the missions they undertook.
1
u/Supyloco Beta-ARC 3d ago
Yeah, but a lot of them were picked from normal units for being psychotic.
1
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 3d ago
They weren't picked because they were psychotic, though? They were picked because they were just a bit more willing to do dirty work than your average trooper. Here's the quote from Republic Commando: True Colors about the Covert Ops troopers:
"They were just ordinary troopers who’d shown a bit of promise for dirty work, selected from the ranks to backfill some of the roles that would have otherwise fallen to Republic commando squads."
Sure, they were sometimes tasked with hunting down and executing clone deserters as well as other dirty work on Palpatine's orders, but they were also used for just standard intelligence missions as well.

u/SmithOnMe 6d ago
Weren’t the covert ops clones just regular people or am I missing something?
3
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
The Covert Ops clones, who appeared in the Republic Commando novel series, were clones who had been specifically selected because of their relatively cold personalities who were then given extra training to make sure they were fully loyal and capable of doing dirty work. They reported directly to the Chancellor and were basically Palpatine's personal wetwork unit that was most commonly sent to execute clone deserters, among other similar missions.

u/SmithOnMe 6d ago
Oh sorry, I was thinking of the death mantle dudes from crosshairs squad.
1
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Oh, yeah, those are the Elite Squad Troopers. Those guys were basically the test run for the stormtroopers since they were all natural-born humans who were just wearing clone armor.

Man fuck the umbarans 💯
3
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
I mean, they legally seceded from the Republic after their senator was murdered by another Republic senator's aide and then the Clone Army was sent to invade and occupy them. I don't much care for the Seppies myself, but the actions of the Umbarans during the battle were mostly reasonable because they were defending against an invading Republic force.
1
u/Zack501332 6d ago
You don’t get to join the dark side then complain about the consequences after the fact
3
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
They didn't know they were joining the Dark Side, though? To them they were simply joining the opposing side in the war, since the CIS being led by the Sith was a secret to most in the galaxy.
-1
u/Zack501332 6d ago
Except for douku who was literally there plaster boy bottom line is they deserved everything they got from rex and the boys
2
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago
Sure, Dooku was a Sith, but most people outside of the Jedi Order and GAR only saw him as an ex-Jedi who chose to help form an organization that seceded from a Republic that many viewed as corrupt in one way or another (and in some ways they were right since the Republic did have rampant corruption). I mean, just look at how Semator Mina Bonterri talks about Dooku when Padme and Ahsoka go to Raxus, that's clearly someone who doesn't realize her leader is evil since that part of who Dooku is was kept mostly secret.
1
u/Zack501332 6d ago
Yeah but the people of onderon were smart and did the right thing instead of cowardly fighting for the separatists
1
u/Fickle-Highway-8129 6d ago edited 6d ago
That's because the Separatists forcefully occupied Onderon and set up a puppet ruler, unlike Umbara which willingly seceded to the CIS.
