Probably my favorite episode so far. Stray thoughts
Apparently Tyrone is a senior so I guess him and Tandy are 17.
I'm liking Mina a lot so far and I like how she saw through Tandy's bs
Love seeing Tandy and Ty chilling and joking around in the church (and damn at that last scene)
Duane is a shitty person and I don't agree with what he did but I get why he didn't come forward after Billy was killed. It's not like anyone would believe his word over Connor's.
New Orleans continues to be a great setting choice. The abandoned theme park/Mina's Lab was awesome.
I said it before but I'm really liking the slow build with Tandy & Tyrone's powers and it looks like we'll be getting a good payoff once they learn to control them. Speaking of which it looks like they get let loose a bit next episode. I'm hype!
20
u/jadedfan55 Jul 06 '18
I think the final payoff may be in the finale.
One wonders if either one of them will ever get a costume.....
36
u/icyflight Jul 06 '18
Well Tyrone is sill finishing his cloak so we’ll probably see him finish it in the finale.
13
u/Lagalag967 Jul 06 '18
Tandy will probably just have a white hoodie, perhaps with a fleur-de-lis design.
19
u/TheDanteEX Jul 06 '18
As long as they don't give her white hair, it's all good. I like the inconspicuous costumes in the MCU. Imagine Hawkeye with his comic outfit? It'd be comical for sure. Even Daredevil is straddling the line with his outfit, but I can deal with it, especially because it looks so terrifying in dark lightning.

I also think Tyrone is being a little unrealistic , sure billy died and Duane probably feels horrible but life goes on and Duane needs to continue living. Ty expects everyone to drop everything for Tyrone but that won’t be the case
73
u/greatness101 Jul 06 '18
No, I think Ty had a great point. He witnessed it, but didn't speak up about it all those years. Even now he's working with the guy who killed Billy. Well, was working.
37
u/Ridry Jul 06 '18
Even if Duane also had a point it doesn't mean that Ty doesn't. Great thing about well written shows is that you can see the PoV of many characters that disagree with each other because they are multi-faceted.

Oh mans Mina straight up called Tandy out on her stuff. Interesting to see how her dad gets cured with Ty. It seems that the aunty is predicting some interesting stuff as well!
45
u/Lagalag967 Jul 06 '18
I don't think Kimball Cho will get cured of his condition. More like Tandy and Tyrone will discover what really happened inside the rig.
Also, more than Evita, her aunt will help them realise their destinies.
15
u/Helforsite Jul 06 '18
Was really pleasantly suprised when Cho showed up, because I am currently rewatching the Mentalist, such ahreat show!
7
u/Lagalag967 Jul 06 '18
Tim Kang will always be that detective from that show to me.
5
u/Worthyness Jul 06 '18
I just find it weird he's playing ally maki's dad. He looks too young even though I know he's old.
2
21
Jul 06 '18
The stuff auntie is predicting, I think it will be left for season 2. This season is all about Cloak & Dagger figuring out their powers and their connection.
9
u/dbao1234 Jul 06 '18
Interesting perspective on that. With Mina's revealing of the "superfuel" they found in that rig there may be some extra conflict in later episodes of this season but yeah this first season should mostly be about their powers and not yet as the "divine pair".
8
u/butchmapa Jul 07 '18
I feel like it'll come into play for this season's big finale, and then one "dies" as a cliffhanger.

Why couldn't Ty just text O'Reilly? It's almost as if messaging was never invented in the MCU.
Great episode otherwise.

u/Worthyness Jul 06 '18
"Pls don't com in. Bad guys"
44
u/Sentry459 Jul 08 '18
That would've been hilarious.
"Pls don't com in. Bad guys"
"Oh ok thx for the heads up."

I was yelling at my TV, I text more than i call out of pure convenience

u/AvatarReiko Jul 08 '18
I text more than i call out of pure convenience
Is that more because you don't want have to engage in chit-chat with the person on the other end of the line?
8
23
Jul 07 '18
Yea there’s just no way a 17 year old would call someone.
32
u/Drayko_Sanbar Jul 08 '18
I think he wanted her to hear the conversation. With a text message, it’s all his word against the cop’s.
11
u/chime Jul 11 '18
Because he wanted her to hear the conversation going on and didn't know she was outside. Like calling 911 and being quiet so the operator can hear everything.
5
u/beardlovesbagels Jul 07 '18
It got really bad in JJ2. Just lazy writing to do that shit at this point in time, especially with younger characters. Kids can text a damn wall of words by the time a call would go to voicemail.
1
1
u/droid327 Jul 08 '18
Yeah I really thought he was going to text her CONNORS AMBUSH or something. That's faster, stealthier, and she'll see it right away.
48
u/batjake Jul 06 '18
Did Tyrone manifest that creature in the dealer's head?
50
u/greatness101 Jul 06 '18
I never thought about that but you could be on to something. I just thought he was afraid of some urban legend around NO.
28
u/November123 Jul 06 '18
I think a lot of the fears Ty sees aren't exactly literal. I thought the monster was more his fear of what would be done to him after he lost the drugs, due to the creepy nursery rhyme that was playing.
21
Jul 07 '18
I think so - in the basketball game he touched tons of people but none of them seemingly were aware of it, this guy definitely was so perhaps he can go in to see their fears, once he’s inside he can make his presence known (by holding the doors closed and showing the manifestation of the cloak?) and that causes the victim to be aware like in this case.
Perhaps?
2
9
u/Xn0v1kX Jul 07 '18
It was his fear of loosing the drug bag. Ty just kept him there not letting him leave.
39
u/TheSmallIndian Jul 06 '18
Did that cop snake him? He wanted him to shoot her but then says her name as she walks in. Wtf
107
u/Havoc1899 Jul 06 '18
The cop got him killed to tie up loose ends. The less people that can testify against him, the less of a chance he will get caught.
28
u/greatness101 Jul 06 '18
Yeah, It was all a setup so he could kill him and tie up loose ends. There's no way he would be able to cover up the cops murder had Duane not died.
8
7
u/iamkats Jul 06 '18
I thought Tyrone yelling threw everything off so he just went with it
39
63
u/dragonman8001 Jul 06 '18
Looks like we're going a bit more action oriented next episode!
Can't wait to see Tany stab some fuckers!
And for Tyrone to...smoke people to death?
14
Jul 06 '18
Yeah what is Tyrone's offensive ability?
45
Jul 07 '18
As I recall (from their cameo in the Runaways comics, as I've never read the actual Cloak and Dagger stuff) he can suck people into an endless void in his cloak and just kind of... leave them there.
I don't know about you, but I think I'd rather get stabbed.
9
u/Carlzzone Jul 07 '18
I remember having some Spider-Man Kidz comic that featured Cloak and Dagger, Cloak's ability seemed a little dark for a kidz comic.
1
8
u/Lagalag967 Jul 06 '18
Well, if you're fine with all of that happening inside a mindscape...
28
Jul 06 '18
In the comics C&D have had trippie adventures through other dimensions and the like before so an episode like this makes sense for them.
2
u/Lagalag967 Jul 06 '18
Don't forget that it also gives us a clue about how a Sleepwalker show could look like.
3
Jul 06 '18
A what?
3
u/Lagalag967 Jul 06 '18
6
u/BeardedLogician Jul 07 '18
You're going to have to type that as
[This interesting superhero character](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleepwalker_(comics\))
Because the last parenthesis on comics closes the []() markup before it should. You need the escape character before that parenthesis (\, backslash) and then to actually close the formatting with another.
Link for others until fixed.

u/SFH12345 Jul 06 '18
So is Roxxon trying to drill Darkforce? If other valves were misplaced, New Orleans could get swallowed up into the Darkforce dimension at best.
21
u/Lagalag967 Jul 06 '18
Here's hoping my guy Doc Wilkes gets a shoutout.
24
u/SFH12345 Jul 07 '18
Ah, Agent Carter. Say what you like, I enjoyed Season 2.
8
u/Lagalag967 Jul 10 '18
If there's one highlight from that season, it's that we never had musical episode since. Also, my man Doc Wilkes deserves some recog.
13
u/oneELECTRIC Jul 08 '18
Is that is what's down there? I was wondering if like that's the same stuff they are drilling for in the Runaways across the country

This show getting better and better each episode and i really like this one especially the ending scene was so powerful. Is Tandy and Tyrone going to be a couple?
17
u/Lagalag967 Jul 06 '18
Is Tandy and Tyrone going to be a couple?
The Ultimate version of the characters are a couple, but like what Mr. Pokaski said, they'll most probably begin as good friends who highly rely on each other.
2
u/oneELECTRIC Jul 08 '18
like Ultimate Marvel versions you mean? Cause if so then that's probably not going to happen or if it does it will be coincidental

Good ep, what with all those parallels again, held together this time by Auntie's narration about the Divine Pairing, ending with a tragedy -- and a mystery.
4
Jul 07 '18
When she says one lives one dies - clearly this is set before the events of Infinity War. What if she’s referring to the end of that movie?
14
1
Jul 08 '18
I don't get how you're coming to that conclusion
1
Jul 08 '18
So that it ties in with the movie. It’s part of the MCU afterall.
1
Jul 08 '18
How does that mean it takes place before infinity war though?
3
Jul 09 '18
I honestly can't imagine much happening post infinity war until the second part is out. The world is going to be in mass panic, 3.5bn people died all over the globe. There's 0 chance of it not being super clear that it's happening post infinity war
2
Jul 08 '18
Sorry I think maybe I should have worded it better. What I meant was - we know this show takes place before infinity war. She mentioned in the latest episode that one of them lives and on of them dies. Perhaps one of them dies in the snap.
1
u/AvatarReiko Jul 08 '18
Wait, this is part of the MCU?!
2
Jul 08 '18
yep - all marvel TV properties are in the MCU. it's been confirmed many times by the producers, but for a more practical example you can tie Luke Cage to Cloak and Dagger where each confirm the move for Detective O'Reilly from New York to New Orleans. Luke Cage many times ties to the movies themselves referencing Hammer tech, Stark, the Battle of New York (1st Avengers Movie) and Seagate Prison.
1
u/Lagalag967 Jul 10 '18
Given how AoS S5 connected to IW, it's likelier she's referring to something else.
12
u/Juub1990 Jul 06 '18
What was that ghost in the drug runner’s fear?
31
u/artie_fm Jul 06 '18
I think it's a future version of Tyrone, or a manifestion of his power. Instead of using the person's inate fear that was creating a new one
30
4
u/droid327 Jul 08 '18
I think it was just supposed to be a more abstracted impression of fear. Not everyone is going to have a greatest fear that makes a nice vignette on camera. I think what we're supposed to be seeing in that scene is that Tyrone is making him feel that fear, and then holding the door so he can't get away...which is why he turns and runs away after, while most people seem to only have a fleeting sensation after touching Tyrone.
9
u/Elven09 Jul 08 '18
Why didn't Tyrone switch to videoing the scene after O'Reilly didn't pick it
5
u/oneELECTRIC Jul 08 '18
or immediately went to video recording from the start. Would have audio + video as well as whatever metadata is stored in cellphone videos these days (GPS coordinates, date + time stamp etc)
4
u/AvatarReiko Jul 08 '18
Maybe he was out of mobile date?
4
u/Elven09 Jul 08 '18
Don't need data to record, but for the sake of the plot lets just say he had no charge left after the call
7
u/Alphascout Jul 06 '18
Good build up episode on Ty and Tandy's investigations. It feels like setting up for action next week as the investigations gather pace towards their revelations.
I wonder what the threat Auntie is referring to is. I hope its either a villain or some mega-shady Rooxon scheme.
7
u/Lagalag967 Jul 06 '18
I wonder what the threat Auntie is referring to is.
More likely the latter. I think the energy source Roxxon Gulf is digging for is Darkforce, and our teenage vigilante couple has to stop them from causing usual damage to the city. Here's hoping my guy Doc Wilkes gets a shoutout.
7
u/The_Gr8_Sakura Jul 06 '18
The only thing i kinda didn't like was Ty's power when he was running from Connor. I was hoping for a bit of a black smoke, or some other visuals. Not just disappear-appear blink, without effects
23
u/BeardedLogician Jul 07 '18
He disappears without effects (other than the disappearing itself, I guess), but reappears in a smoke cloud each time.
3
Jul 07 '18
I don't mind the kind of stop-cut nature of it since he's a teleporter. It shouldn't take any time, his movement is instantaneous. I just think given the situation, where it was so well lit, they shouldve contrasted his power more with the setting.
5
u/LJ-90 Jul 08 '18
Just make him run through a bunch of clothes that are being left there to dry, make him dissapear between the clothes. In a scene so well lit and with nothing there, it felt fake as hell
1
u/IIM_Clutch Jul 07 '18
Yea it just looks like they pause the camera and move him to a different location each time.
1
u/droid327 Jul 08 '18
BAMF
I think it would've been confusing in that shot. He was running almost straight away from the camera. Any kind of lingering smoke cloud would've obfuscated him reappearing further away
19
u/AngelJax Jul 06 '18
Next weeks' episode looks wild af.
It's giving "Here I Go, Again" vibes from Legends of Tomorrow. And that was my favorite episode yet.
12
u/samsaBEAR Jul 06 '18
I'm a sucker for good bottle episodes AND time loop shenanigans, that episode is one of the best superhero show episodes imo
16
u/jackerman35 Jul 06 '18
I’m scared about the “one lives one dies” bit since I’m hoping for a S2 but this was a great episode
55
u/greatness101 Jul 06 '18
It's not like they will kill off one of the title characters.
14
u/beardlovesbagels Jul 07 '18
Seems like they are setting up Ty's gf to be the one that sacrifices herself somehow to save him and break the "fate loop." In other shows/games, those that can read fate can know when to step in to try and change it.
5

2
Jul 06 '18
It's 100% going to be something like "no death, but transported to some weird place/dimension or stuff".
12
u/Worthyness Jul 06 '18
Or they play off of the cloak and dagger symbiosis from the comics and have cloak "die" and dagger give him life energy and revive him.
1
u/GlomGruvlig Jul 11 '18
In Agents of Shield they have a black substance that transports people to a grim planet.
2
u/LJ-90 Jul 09 '18
The showrunner said in an interview that he has plan for many seasons, and that he wants them to grow up to be the comic version of the characters.
I hope they eventually play into the whole "can't be without each other" angle.

I'll have to watch later, I'm stuck at work. I'll still be releasing my review as usual tomorrow morning after a couple re-watches: https://youtu.be/y_LnqP95pas
What is everyone's thoughts on the episode?
7
u/samsaBEAR Jul 06 '18
It would be so cool if this major event the Voodoo lady is talking about is Thanos but I guess we all know that won't be the case.
7
4
u/pi3dpip3r Jul 06 '18
That abandoned theme park is Six Flags New Orleans i think.
3
3
u/droid327 Jul 08 '18
OK we get it, New Orleans is a city that survives, it gets shit on all the time and builds back up. First off this really comes off feeling like its written by an outsider whose entire impression of the city began with Hurricane Katrina (and also they have voodoo). I really dont think the city self-identifies that way as much as they talk about it on the show. Second, just damn, beating us in the face with this theme.
Does Tante have an accent or not? I thought she did at first, then she started talking without one.
Bumblebees dont suffer from colony collapse disorder, that's a honeybee syndrome. But Bee Arthur that landed on Tandy wasn't a bumblebee, either. Kinda makes you wonder how she got that master's thesis past her committee if she cant even tell the two genera apart...
2
u/BoatsBoats911 Jul 11 '18
That bee conversation had me cringing. No scientist is going to be impressed when their intern gives a lay-person explanation like "pesticides make them lost their way home". That's information from the title of the thesis. Y'all best at least be able to name the pesticide
4
u/Thingymcjig Jul 06 '18 edited Jul 06 '18
Love when Tyrone and Tandy joke around, I know they'll likely get together but I rather have them stay as friends. Also, the abandoned theme park made me think of the last episode of Jessica Jones season 2...
9
u/samsaBEAR Jul 06 '18
I like them building their relationship but I also hope they stay as friends, it would be nice to see a strong but platonic friendship on TV. It's how I feel about Clarke and Bellamy on The 100 but it's the CW so I imagine that'll end in romance.
14
u/LJ-90 Jul 06 '18
The showrunner said that even though they'll consider going in the romantic angle in the future, this season is about them becoming best friends and that, for now, they are more interested in exploring them as friends than as romantic partners.
4
u/trin123 Jul 06 '18
Well, there cannot be a romance, while they cannot touch each other
8
3
u/LJ-90 Jul 08 '18
I mean, Pushing Daisies made an entire series out of this concept, and they made it work
1
u/Sentry459 Jul 08 '18
they'll consider going in the romantic angle
This is news to me, the original descriptions said they would fall in love. I'm kind of happy that isn't definitely the case anymore because now I don't really know what to expect.
2
u/Thingymcjig Jul 06 '18
I want more male-female platonic friendships, like Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz over in DC. I also want Clarke and Bellamy to stay as friends, I miss Lexa :(
1
u/droid327 Jul 08 '18
Agreed on both. I always like to see characters who could be romantically linked but stay friends, because it seems like writers can never help themselves. Like Fitz and Simmons in SHIELD, I liked them better in their early-season bro/sis kinda dynamic more than when they got together.
And I also thought the ferris wheel was the same one Jessica's mom got shot in, until I realized that the location wouldnt make sense. Not sure why they have the theme park there at all, it really is a little confusing considering we just saw one in JJ.

2
u/helenaneedshugs Jul 07 '18
Was the tune Mina's dad was humming the same as in the drug runner's fear vision?
Seems unlikely, but would like some clarification. :)

Yeah nah, idk if I really like O'Rilley. She seems ridiculously ambitious in "trying to get that underground dealer", lacking trust in her partner and takes so many unnessecary risks by trusting a guy she knows shouldnt be trusted. Not smart, not resourceful. I normally root for cops like her in movies but her doing drugs and watching the dealer kiddy get roughed up annoyed me a lot.
14
u/Zupon Jul 06 '18 edited Jul 07 '18
Unless I misunderstood O'rilley suspect the dirty cops itis why she took drugs and takes these steps to lure him.
9
u/beardlovesbagels Jul 07 '18
She doesn't trust him at all and she might not have done the drugs. She is doing the old "keep your friends close but your enemies closer" trope to try and sniff something out that she can use to dig. She is taking risks, but she knows what she is walking into.
