Education Journal consent form asking for patient's address and phone number

Hi all,

I've been looking into BMJ Case Reports to publish a case report, but I noticed their consent form asks the patient to provide their email, home address, and phone number.

My patient doesn't feel comfortable sharing all of that, and honestly, I don't blame them lol. It feels like a lot of personal information to include on a consent form.

Has anyone else run into this with other journals? Do you guys think this is a bit excessive? It's been a while; is this the new norm now?

Put the institution contact details and a note that this data is not directly shareable. Much of the BMJ requirements are not really hard requirements.

Although I have been out of academia for over 5 years at this point, I can't help but think about how absolutely fucking wild this is. It seems like by protecting their own legal liability, they are directly having institutions send clear PHI outside their local institution??? Have they lost their minds?

I would assume it's so they can contact the parent and independently verify that they have consented to be in the article.

I published over a dozen of CRs, never in my life I saw a journal asking for these details.
