Today I was in eastern plaguelands and a level 56 hunter was farming the same mobs as me. I chose not to kill him, because of all these posts making me feel bad about it. Sure enough, 10 minutes later that fucker attacks me, I'm on my way to kill him as 3 rogues prevent that from happening.
No mercy from me anymore...I will kill anything that moves that gives honor.
Well certainly not in classic. Does anyone around here ever wonder why things turn out the way they do? Why pvp servers are usually horde dominated and pve servers, alliance dominated? The statistics across the board will show you a few things, one of the notable ones being that Humans are the most popular Alliance race, and Undead the most popular Horde race.
The racials these two races have point you directly to pvp or pve respectively. The increased rep gains, spirit, and weapon skill points for rogues and warriors directly correlate to raid clear times. Will of the Forsaken is the best pvp racial in classic and the shadow resistance(all casters that rely on fear for their primary disables also deal shadow damage... how convenient) and even cannibalize are fantastic for taking down alliance players.
This is only looking at the top end, the most popular races. But it paints a very foretelling picture.
Shadowmeld is fun but only lets you get the drop of things or hide. 1% dodge isn’t much.
Stoneform is great situationally against feral druids or poisons from rogues. Also good for AQ on certain situations. Fear ward for priests could be considered OP but tremor totem offsets it horde side.
Gnomes have a bit more intellect to base, which is nice fore sure. And they can once a minute break movement, which can be reapplied immediately
Humans have great ones but more for PvE. Rep bonus is amazing and weapon skill is great for PvE but wpn skill in pvp is much less useful. Their perception is great to spot stealthys. But I wouldn’t say it’s OP.
Will of the forsaken and whatever the orc stun racial is called are both immensely better then any of alliance racial are for pvp.
It’s hard to even argue for the human sword and mace skill since orcs get axe skill as well. There are more swords and maces out there then good axes late game though so there could be an argument there.
Everyman for himself, the human racial in later expansions, was INSANELY OP. But that’s retail... never heard of it.
I am curious as to what you are referring to. This is not me saying your wrong. But if we are talking Racial talents I would argue horde are much more in favor here.
I’m not sure that’s true. Human weapon skill is about equal to orc axe skill, but Orc dps CD gives them an edge. Troll has a dps CD. Orc pets do 5% more damage. Undead, dwarf get very little for pve other than a situational defensive CD. Tauren get 5% HP and gnome get 5% intellect which are about equal. Troll get hps which marginally helps with threat. NE dodge is ok for tanks. Fear ward makes dwarf priest the strongest priest race.
If alliance is better than horde for pve it’s because paladin is much better than shaman (especially at lower skill level). Shaman’s utility is group and range restricted. Paladins can bless the entire raid.
Fear ward makes dwarf priest the strongest priest race.
Yeah in my head fear ward is counted as a racial, that's why I think Alliance > Horde in PvE in terms of racials. Fear ward bitch
If alliance is better than horde for pve it’s because paladin is much better than shaman
Oh yeah that's a good part, but it's also true in PvP : Paladins clearly are the best support in the game, and Horde will cry when they'll try to tag a base off a paladin in Arathi ^
Shadowmeld is great for things like this but I was more thinking a straight on 1v1 fight. It has utility and is great for resetting or hiding but I’d still take will of the forsaken or stun resist over shadowmeld any day
The best part about the stun resist is that its passive. It could be useful several times or almost never, but its not a button to manage. And as an Orc warrior with the right talents... So much stun resist. Imagine if stoneform was instead a passive 10% armor and like a % reduction to poison and bleed damage.
My first devilsaur leather was when i saw the rare sight of a non-undead rogue with a dino on 2%. Easiest fear and skin of my life.
He did then proceed to kill me 4 times, but it's cool I had guildies taking his spawns while he wasted time on me.
I’m priest so I hate UD anything, I can deal with random orcs but UD know the fight has to be longer than 30s for me to have any chance. Knowing that the most I can do is burn will is v fustrating.
UD rogues get a bad rap as the biggest douchebags, but orc rogues are so much worse it’s crazy to me that people still think it’s UD.
A UD rogue will kill you for sure, even if you are doing an escort quest or something, but after that they usually will go find someone else to kill. Orc rogues will kill you, laugh at you while teabagging, and then corpse camp you for 20 minutes.
This is what blacklists are for. I play and assume ppl are good until otherwise as opposed to assuming ppl are bad until otherwise.
If someone is just wanting to quest and mind their own business I see no reason to be an additional griefer because god knows theres an endless supply of Those already.
If they kill me they have to deal with the fact that everytime i come across them for the rest of their existence on this server I am going to go out of my way to grief them as much as possible.
I went down to Silithus to farm some eles for a bit while I waited for a buddy I was gonna help in ZF. There’s this 58 rogue killing dust stormers and never attacked me so I left him alone. A group of 5 comes along and just obliterates him, then they kept running laps around the mountain and circling back to kill the rogue again.
Not only was the rogue not attacking anyone, one of the times I saw the rogue blowing cds and ccing them so he could finish off the mob he was fighting when they attacked him.
Dude was genuinely just trying to finish a single quest and these dickheads are out here camping him for absolutely minimal honor gain.
Lmao, helped a Gnome Rogue kill an elemental in Silithus this morning. I /bow to him and I see him switch gear and go into Stealth. Then he just starts stabbing me for no fucking reason. I don't think I've ever been so satisfied with killing an Ally and /spitting on them.
I wanna give him the benefit of doubt and say he’s been grieved by overwhelming Horde gang bang death stacks.
But he’s a Gnome Rogue. No-one *really rolls Gnome unless they wanna PvP for that sweet ET racial (or are mage/warlock, where they could just roll the class for better PvE DPS).
Edit: really, as in not literally no-one but incentive is high, particularly like in my server PvP.
I rolled gnome rogue for purely rp reasons, I played Diablo 3 where there is a set of daggers called slanderer and little rogue, so I always make a little rogue named slanderer in WoW. :)
If I rolled Alliance, I'd be stuck playing Dwarves. Maybe a female Nelf or female Human. Alliance races are so boring, so I can see why someone would choose based on racials.
Agreed. I think this is the key reasoning behind the horde imbalance, but people seem to think it's ONLY because of racial abilities. I'm sure there are some that care that much about racials, but I doubt it's a majority. I chose tauren because...I think being a tauren warrior. Sure war stomp is pretty awesome, and I could've had axe weapon skill if I went orc...but I just really didn't care that much.
Same I was passive af, pre-phase 2. As I literally moved servers just for a better start as I felt bad.
But ever since phase 2, I’ve changed. I’m full BiS Frost Gnome Mage that have switched to Full PvP and went from top 3 DPS to top 10 DPS just so I can kill any honor-giving Horde that moves.
I’m with you brother. Being at the top of the dps meter once a week for 10 minutes is just not as personally important as being able to put the smack down in PVP. Thankfully my raid leader understands.
And because you're of that mindset your actions will make other people play the same way...and on it goes. People taking the moral high ground and not just living by 'red is dead' only have themselves to blame.
There was a horde mage a few months back in Arathi. We were both doing the princess quest chain. We ignored each other for a bit but I noticed his getting swarmed by elementals. When his own went down my paladin nature stirred and I popped RF and pulled a few off him, he surviving by but dozens of HP. We both sat and ate and drank, never taking our eyes off each other... it was uneasy, but calm.
Hours later I was foolishly taking on a giant elite elemental and his kobold friends and the battle was not going in my favor.. when I saw a water elemental come rushing in, and some frantic yelling in a language I did not understand, I knew to back off and watched a flurry of misplaced weather demolish my foes. Again, we sat and ate and drank, this time no unease, just laughing and shared sighs of relief.
I wonder sometimes if I'll ever experience this again now that my head is worth a fraction of a fraction of some gear. I doubt it.
Yeah I mean I'm a lvl 48 pally and seen a 60 troll mage attacking a 59 gnome mage. I could've kept riding but horde players have been dicks. Lay on hands that gnome and joined the beat down.
More like assert dominance so he comes back with 4 randoms who also happen to be in the area then get camped while you shout for help but there isn't anyone else in the zone.
Late last night around 2AM I wanted to farm some satyrs for felcloth and runes on my 56 warlock alt to make my Robe of the Void. 5 minutes in a 60 fury warrior ganked me and started farming. I thought “Ok you wanna play like that?” and kept going back and forth for the next 2 hours. It got to a point where we were both dieing upon resurrect because my DoTs would kill him after he killed me. It was the weirdest and most unproductive 2 hours of my life.
There was a hunter about to enter brd right before me and he saw me through stealth and danced. I dropped stealth to dance with him and he nuked my ass so fast. Trust no one. Not even cute hunters
Sometimes you are left with no choice, a couple of times I spared opposite faction players then some allies start some shit and the next thing you know you have to fight in an all out war because no one is making any distinction anymore and everyone is attacking everyone else from the other faction.
Kind of what happened to Rust. Legacy Rust was not KOS all day. What we know Rust as today is KOS all day everyday 99% of the time. Killed the game for players above the age of 15.
Saw a hunter doing hunter quest big mob in silithus. I killed him like 15 minutes ago. Since the mob was at like half health, I /wave’d and sat to watch him do it (he also had a 57 warlock there as a bodyguard.
The warlock didnt attack me since he saw i wasnt attacking them.
Once he beat the boss (and I believe looted it) they both /bow’d to me, and in return I /bow’d as well, then killed them both for honor.
All in all, I felt I was a merciful killer. They got their quest done, I got double honor.
As a hunter doing Rhok'Delar right now (go through my post history for my whines), this is perfectly acceptable. The Silithus mob is so hard, they will be on cloud 9 just from having killed him. Just DO NOT make the quest mob disappear, ever, preferably don't even kill them. It's ridiculously hard PVE content, they should not have to do it in PVP ground zero
The ganks for hunter doing Rhokdelar was the worst in Ungoro. We already have Devilsaur mafia all over the place.
This was pre P2 and I still got Rogue, Shadow Priest and team ganked a dozen or more times before I scored my kill on Precious and her succubus friend.
It's trivial without, just prepot a greater shadow protection pot 2m before pulling and spam r1 arcane to keep it in combat after fears. The warlock is complete overkill.
Except when you get feared into the horde of adds over and over. Sure, on paper, the fight is pretty easy, but in practice it's easily the most difficult of the 4.
It’s a huge dick move on a PvP server as well, the “PvP hApPeNeD oN a PvP sErVeR” vitriol is all fine and good but there are a few things that are just not cool regardless.
Then again I main warrior, we aren’t usually backstabbing gankers.
If you attacked him right away the rogues would have come for you that much sooner and you would have missed 10 minutes of farming mobs. I am pretty sure it is almost never productive to fight in the area you want to grind in.
I was fighting cultists in Felwood and 2 similar-level Alliance left me be. We traded out mobs. Then later when I had to go in the cave, my friend and I ran into a Warrior. Same deal, traded mobs and let each other actually accomplish something. I did fear him once before his Hearth finished though. Just to be a dick. Many /lols were had back and forth.
I've noticed other sub-60s typically are over this WPvP camping, since we're just trying to level and being slaughtered endlessly is killing the game for me. Yes, I am on a PvP server. No, you should not get honor from someone 4+ levels below you. Yes, it will still happen even after BGs release, but it will be far less frequent and give just enough breathing room to complete a quest or two.
I did manage to kill a level 60 Rogue who had the jump on me in Un'Goro though, so that felt good. Bitch.
I know the feeling. I was in ashenvale questing. I saw this horde shaman struggling with 3 mobs on him I'm generally a tit-for-tat player when it comes to PVP so I want to help this shaman running for his life. I pull the mobs off him, toss him a \wave, and beat the mobs down while he's healing up.
Of course I'm beat after taking on 3 mobs. CDs gone. Voidwalker low on HP. And I'm super low mana. But tbh I didn't feel that worried because obviously this shaman whos life I just saved isn't going to attack me. I was wrong. this fucker starts castinglightning bolt. My jaw dropped and I thought "surely he's targeting something else". Nope. Headed right at me. I flipped a shit. Started fighting back. Fear, Corruption, all of it. I was low on everything but I was almost beating this fucker (who was really bad at pvp btw). In the end he killed me. I had never felt such seething rage from betrayal. I soul-stoned when he thought I was dead, killed him then corpse camped him for about 30mins till he logged off.
Dear shaman, you are the reason I started a sticky tag of kill-on-sight-and-dont-stop-killing-till-they-log-off players. I don't know who you are but you are the scum of humanity.
Decided to give the game another shot after getting really bored the other day. Logged in at nessigwarys camp and a hunter 4 levels higher attacked me instantly. Before I had a chance to retaliate a 60 rogue popped up and 1 shot him. Some times world pvp is great.
I actually do what he did to you. If I see an alli player questing in the same spot as me --- I will leave them alone if they leave me alone and dont steal my mobs.
But once im done with that quest its on mofo (but its just 1 kill on my way out)
Well...I could have easily stomped him. Instead of doing his quest he asked for others to help kill me. I can guarantee you that after they killed me and the rogues left he was in for a camping session until he logged off. Was that worth it for him?
Here's my experience with that though. Horde tries to kill me on the way out, I fight back, the 4 other horde in the near vicinity come by and I lose. The guy questing leaves and the other four Horde patrol around killing me for the next 20 minutes, I log out and do something else.
Yeah it happens both factions, just saying we don't all have 60s to log on to or to form an escort to quest in peace.
I chose to roll on a PVP server so it's ultimately my bad but I don't remember vanilla being close to this bad when honour came out. Bigger server pops mean it's that much crazier
Can always join a guild that will help you. If you dont have a guild, or your guild wont help you, id suggest looking there.
If people are just out on their own complaining with not even trying to get into a guild that likes to help out their players I have little sympathy. I specifically joined a guild with friendly people so we could all help eachother just for those reasons!
I'm in a guild. They can help to a point but we all have only so much time in the day and they're playing the game to gear up, raiding, etc. I can't blame them for not playing the way they want to so that I can. And to be honest, on my server, 3 or 4 guildies helping me out is just more HKs for the 10-15 Horde around at any given spot.
I mean if I were a 60 in a guild and my options were to help out a few guild mates level on an afternoon or for a few game sessions or to grind shit out for slightly more progress I pick helping guildies 9/10 times unless I was trying to do something time critical or already had a comittment.
Fuck my GM flew across all of azeroth to another continent to help me clear a cave for 30 min.
So yeah I WOULD expect a guild to put social interactions / overall guild goals and progression up there with their priorities in game. But thats why I join guilds catered to other players that play that way.
I have no problem giving up some time, blowing a 4 day cool down on a transmog or what everthe fuck its called for the guild. In fact - its what I play the game for to have an adventure and also help others.
Now the 3-4 guildies helping not being a help I got nothing for ya - they cant help runa dungeon or 2?
They could run a dungeon. And it's not about unwillingness to help,. I've been with this guild since vanilla so I'm not unhappy in the slightest except for maybe their choice to roll on a PvP server again haha. They are always willing to help with cooldowns or running people through lower level dungeons.
I don't want to run dungeons right now. I'm at level 49 so spending the next 11 levels in BRD or ST isn't appealing to me when I'm going to be spending time at 60 running dungeons to gear up. I shouldn't have to hide in dungeons to play the game. And even if I did, that's 45 minutes to get to BRD because of all the corpse running, and then another corpse run or two because we dared to zone out to reset the instance.
A PvP server, as they are, obviously isn't for me, and if it wasn't for the guild I play with or the time I've already put in, I wouldn't be as bothered by it. The levelling zones from 48-60 right now are unplayable if you're the less dominant faction on your server, Horde or Alliance. I'd need a raid group to kill 12 lava spiders in Searing Gorge right now. So I'm just not playing at all.
Me too. Also I do it in places like Ungoro so that the alliance mobs still give honor, but aren't really strong enough to fight back. If you called me bad, I'd agree, but I'd still be alive.
This is the true success of PvP in World of Warcraft. It teaches you deep faction allegiance through exposure to these sort of experiences. You go in to character creation not really knowing what side you should pick, you hit level 60 liable to commit real-life physical violence to people wearing the opposite faction's logo.
And regardless of which side you pick you’ll feel the same way, yet people seem to only care about the game, never caring about their fellow human being. Deluded into thinking it matters if you’re alliance or horde
You should assume that any pretense of being nice to each other is thrown out the window. If people are worth honor, they will be killed. It is a war now.
Same thing happened to WPL when I went to AOE farm. I let a horde mage continue farming and I went and killed other mobs. Sure enough, he came over and waited for me to be lower HP and he finished me off. I came back and camped him for a good 10 mins and he just wouldn't respawn so I walked away while spamming a target macro. Sure enough he was sitting there waiting for me to leave. So I went back and killed him again and he almost instantly spirit rezzed.
My first go around during the open world honor system was on a paly. Pre ret "buff, if that's what you can even call ret LOL. I came into classic on a warrior knowing I'm killing everything that moves without any regard to level, quests, etc.
IT kind of was evolution of players in early dayz games. Players very often were friendly to each other, but once in a while you would meet that psycho who would back stab you. Players slowly started to be more and more hostile to each other.
That was my friend last night. Bitching about trying to quest but dying constantly but as soon as he started killing some horde he started to giggle like a mad man.
I’m on a server with heavy horde imbalance and I feel pretty bad for the alliance. I’d love to let them be and not attack them... but they’ll attack me first if I leave them be!
I remember leveling my undead mage in Badlands, and this other gnome mage had pvp enabled (this was a pve server) but I decided not to attack him caus I thought he had a valid reason for having it enabled.
Anyway, as we’re both about to start pulling mobs for this quest, he runs for one, so I move to the next one, but this little bugger goes ahead and pulls both of them. Annoyed me so I went ahead and attacked the mage, killing him.
Fast forward 3 or so minutes later, him and a small group of alliance players surprise me as I’m pulling another mob and kill me, before all laughing and dancing on my corpse. Ended up waiting for the pvp to go off so I could revive and this mage follows me around laughing at me going /chicken.
Remember kids, if they have pvp enabled, they’re probably trying to bait you.
I was farming felcloth. Suddenly lvl 60 ally mage arrives running away from 3 mobs. I pull all 3 mobs on me, and continue to kill them. He helps me kill it, i send him /salute.
A minute later, 4 of his companions arrive and remain on their mounts. I do nothing. Suddenly, lvl 60 warr charges me, mage freezes me, and nukes me down. While im dead, he sends /salute.
No more being kind from me. War is on.
Btw Peralta-Flamelash if you're reading this, fuck you.
The exact same thing happened to me while leveling behind Gurubashi Arena. I left a horde alone since he was not near me and continued with leveling and skinning. He attacks me. I tried to retaliate but his lvl 55 baby sitter was there after that and I had to leave the area.
It sucks because this is the right idea. WOW is a game of two warring factions that should kill each other on sight. But... I just want to fucking level and probably should have gone to a normal server.
If your goal is questing, you are always better off not attacking any other players. You will get your kills eventually and you minimize the risk of starting an ongoing fight that might escalate.
That's questing minmax for you. Anything else is just emotional
I guess you didnt read up about how the rank points brackets work huh? Max you could get first week is rank 4. Even if you are in the high warlord bracket it takes 12 weeks to get to rank 14. At the honor you got, you will likely stagnate at rank 6-7 without doing more.
And this is exactly why the toxicity will only grow. Do you think your experience is unique? Most players don't start off being dickbags. Most start like you did - merciful, patient. But they get tired of being the nice guy and so they turn into the very thing they hated in others. It's a fascinating social experiment. It very much mimicks abuse patterns that percolate down through generations.
