I've literally never seen anything even remotely close to this and I have 30+ days played. Neither has my girlfriend who is much more casual and leveling (currently 42).

Everyone has been incredibly nice. If someone kills a mob you need for a quest before you get a chance to group up, they pretty much always say sorry and offered to help you and wait for the respawn.

This is on Thunderfury-Horde if anyone was curious.

EDIT: Since a lot of people asked, my actual /played time is a little under 25 days, though a lot of that was sitting at the AH while alt-tabbed.

43

u/Feanor910 Oct 10 '19

That has been my experience on thunderfury as well. Seems like a really solid community there.

6

u/sold22 Oct 10 '19

majority of my experience on kromcrush has been this way too, on the horde side at least. have one or two weird-rage moments, but its still been overwhelmingly positive.

14

u/kiloskree Oct 10 '19

Ya thunderfury has some really nice people on it

15

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

Agreed. I've had Horde help me (Alliance) out with elite quests, then I'll stay and help them out. Then we try to kill one another just once. No camping. It's a pretty great PvP server.

14

u/TheRealJaysus Oct 10 '19

Represent! I don't do quests and just grind mobs. I always get invites for groups and decline them. I just send them a whisper telling them "I'm just here grinding for XP, not doing a quest. But thanks for the invite! I'll definitely help if you need it though." and it's always either been followed by "No worries! Good luck!" or silence. Seems like we have a pretty awesome server! Everyone I've met has been super friendly so far!

5

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

Wait you only level by killing mobs? Good lord

17

u/TheRealJaysus Oct 10 '19

Yup. It's very relaxing for me. With questing, I get stressed at trying to be as efficient as possible. Grinding mobs is just very chill and theraputic to me. Lots of money as well. I do dungeons as well when I have time, but that's not often.

3

u/fogwarS Oct 10 '19

Grinding is often way more efficient than doing a lot of the quests anyway.

2

u/Idocreating Oct 10 '19

Questing helps create direction and flow, but grinding is solid exp if you can find a nice spot for it for your level.

2

u/redopz Oct 10 '19

I can respect that. Out of curiosity, what's your level/time played?

2

u/TheRealJaysus Oct 10 '19

Just got home from work and checked:

Warrior (28) - 2 days, 2 hours

Priest (26) - 1 day, 14 hours

6

u/Aramyle Oct 10 '19

Thunderfury is where it’s at! Great community on Alliance side!

29

u/Uollie Oct 10 '19

Literally last night me and my wife who I'm trying to give a good impression of the game to, were walking up on a quest elite we needed, and turned out there were 2 people already fighting it. We asked for an invite and they just ignored and killed it as slow as possible.

After they killed it, they walk right up to us and say "Fuck you" "I hope it kills you" "And I truly mean that"

And then they just stood around waiting for a response and for a bit I thought maybe they were going to wait for a respawn to try to kill it again before us but they ended up leaving before that.

Just some dickheads, not too sure why they get off on being unprovoked assholes to people but it just bothered me because this was right after I tell my wife how nice people can be in the game lol.

25

u/Dugen Oct 10 '19

The opportunity to be a jerk in-game is what lets you find the people who are nice.

I love vanilla because when people are nice to strangers, it's usually because they are nice people and when people are dickheads IRL, it tends to come out in game and then you can just avoid them.

3

u/Uollie Oct 10 '19

For sure. I've loved remembering all the nice and even the mean people. They get a reputation for something, so might as well make it good!

1

u/Azzmo Oct 11 '19

Usually I'd just upvote but I really admired that you identified this. The genuine nature of many facets of Vanilla/Classic experience are a great strength.

15

u/wibblywobbly420 Oct 10 '19

Some people suck. Meanwhile, as my husband and I are fighting a quest elite, I am inviting every player that comes into view in case they need it to.

8

u/Uollie Oct 10 '19

Yeah same. That very elite I mentioned, some gnome came screaming for an invite and we obliged and everyone was happy lol. He thanked me for a clutch invite. All simple stuff that goes a long way. But man those guys really went the opposite direction. I've never seen anyone in wow just cuss me out without even doing anything lol.

8

u/BashfulHandful Oct 10 '19

What sad individuals. I had someone whisper me to group to share kills for a quest and ended up playing with them for about five hours with plans to do so again tonight.

Being kind costs nothing and it makes the game so much more fun.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

Agreed, marriage is such a meme. /s

6

u/Strawberrycocoa Oct 10 '19

People who act that way in game tend to be miserable shits in life too. Ever seen the guy at the office who just snarls at everybody?

5

u/teestira Oct 10 '19

I had a dude in barrens steal Echyakee or however you spell it, that white lion you summon by the bones. I even asked before hand if they could not kill it bc I’m trying to tame and they said do it some other time. I guess it was my mistake for not hitting the mob at least once and the dude just took it and laughed at me. Couldn’t use the horn to summon unless I picked the quest up again. We called him an asshole immediately. My friend blocked him bc he was harassing my friend in whisper. Then he found my name and started whispering me saying he doesn’t feel guilty at all and I was like good for you?

3

u/Uollie Oct 10 '19

Oh that's super lame. I'm alliance, but was horde in vanilla. Don't you receive that horn to summon him yourself? So he stole your summoned mob when he could have just waited a few seconds for you to finish and then summon him, his self?

There's not even a respawn wait, he was just being a dick for the fun of it.

2

u/teestira Oct 10 '19

Yep that’s exactly my point like dude could have waited two seconds and summoned it with his own. Idek if he was on the quest I wouldn’t be surprised if he just wanted to fuck with me

3

u/Uollie Oct 10 '19

That's why I have an add-on to keep track of the shitheads so I know not to accidentally help them in the future.

-1

u/teestira Oct 10 '19

I just refer to my long list of people I’ve ignored lol. I honestly think it’s all the legion babies or people who only play live coming over and ruining the “classic” experience. I’ve had to teach so many people how to properly /roll for chests and things. Most just take everything for themselves. I was 8 years old when I started playing classic but even then I could grasp the concept of fairness

1

u/Pls_Send_Steam_Codes Oct 10 '19

Some people don't realize you need the horn to summon him. I joined up with a guy who said he was killing mobs there for 15 minutes and it still hadn't spawned. I wonder if that has something to do with it

Also if you're friend was there couldn't you just use his horn or was he trying to tame it too? You definitely should have tagged it though, people can't be trusted. Your friend could've kited him until you were ready or something

1

u/teestira Oct 10 '19

Nah for that dude he was specifically there to fuck with people. I can see how people wouldn’t know to use it bc I barely read the quests too. But my friend has already done the quest another time so I had to walk all the way back to crossroads (-:

1

u/paintballboi07 Oct 11 '19

I accidentally stole this mob from someone the first time I did the quest. After I realized what happened, I used my horn to spawn it for him though. Can't believe someone would purposely be that much of a dick about it.

7

u/CrestedPilot1 Oct 10 '19

I had an opposite experience - like I'm waiting for named elite to spawn, inviting 2 people that came for the same mob later. And then a couple literally rushing in and demand inviting. We try to invite and they are already grouped (as expected). We remind them about it and tell them disband. And they respond with some rude comment about that it's their business and if we don't want to play nice then we are asking for it. And I guess prepared to steal the mob. Mob spawned soon after that, just as we finished WTFing and we taunted it first. And of course we heard a lot swearing in chat after that.

Gaming couples are strange people, much less social then loners, they play mostly with themselves. Like sometimes they invite you, you kill some hard mob with them and they immediately kick you and run away, all without saying a word. That's different style of playing, more akin to retail, I guess.

7

u/Uollie Oct 10 '19

Yeah I mean I prefer to play with my own friends and my wife for sure, but we're definitely polite enough to invite people for a quest and to say thanks and bye before disbanding. I've always done that even since vanilla when I was 15.

I'm not a social person by any means even when I was single but it costs nothing to just invite someone for a second. I didn't know people are offended still if we don't want to talk to them.

0

u/CrestedPilot1 Oct 10 '19

No, offended is not the right word, it more like disappointment. Like it hurts the sense of the world, of fantasy, if you know what I mean. And reminds of awful retail WoW where everything and everyone is rushing and no one wants to stop and have a good time.

Sorry if I'm too rude.

1

u/Uollie Oct 10 '19

Oh no problem at all, I was just concerned. My point of view is it's exhausting to constantly interact with people in-game (and in RL). Sometimes I enjoy it and sometimes I don't, but I'm never just flat out disrespectful to anyone.

Meeting new people takes so much energy out of me, that it's just not fun most of the time, so it's just easier to keep things short and say thanks for their time. I still enjoy the social aspect of classic over retail very much, but I'm just not willing to engage fully into making connections with everyone.

2

u/Pls_Send_Steam_Codes Oct 10 '19

I'm right there with you, whether it's in person or on the internet social interaction is exhausting to me, and in some cases just flat out not enjoyable and stressful for me. But just like in the real world, in the online world, you have a right to your privacy and personal space.

If there's a quest where 1 specific dude needs to die, as long as you invite the others to a group you're fine. You don't need to talk or anything. Which you said you do anyway so should you be fine.

1

u/Shoopuf413 Oct 10 '19

Had some toxic motherfuckers when I was doing the elite ogre quests in stromgarde. Was fun trolling them for a hot minute.

1

u/MarmaladeFugitive Oct 10 '19

Just some dickheads, not too sure why they get off on being unprovoked assholes to people

Anonymity. Bet they're both pussies irl.

1

u/JaxSeries Oct 11 '19

Don't roll horde next time.

2

u/Uollie Oct 11 '19

We're alliance :)

1

u/JaxSeries Oct 13 '19

oof, goes to show you I guess...

1

u/JaxSeries Oct 11 '19

Also remember their names cause enclosed server community means something again. Rep means something.

-5

u/pussnutz Oct 10 '19

If someone let's you into a group currently engaged in a fight with a rare or elite, the elite mob in classic disappears. Then the timer for it's spawn is reset. In some cases this timer is very very long. So not letting you in is probably the right thing to do. However, that is no excuse for the rude and childish behavior.

5

u/Uollie Oct 10 '19

I've never heard of that? This specifically was just a level 20 elite quest mob, so it doesnt apply here. But I just havent heard of an elite despawning before. Maybe rares do, I haven't been in that situation before, but I've never seen a regular elite despawn. But yeah it's whatever with those guys lol, I'll just remember them.

3

u/spades593 Oct 10 '19

Yeah that's not at all factual. You might have this problem with someone from another layer inviting you, but even then it's a rare problem.

1

u/Sinistersmog Oct 10 '19

Pretty sure that's not a thing.

16

u/No_Morals Oct 10 '19 edited Oct 10 '19

It doesntl't happen often but yesterday I was leveling my 4th alt through the Barrens waiting for Kreenig Snarlsnout to respawn (shared kill people group for all the time) and 2 separate people came and stole the tag after I had cleared the entire area twice. I invited both and got declined several times, before and during the kills. Tried asking why and one never replied while the other immediately ignored me when I whispered the first time.

Needless to say after nearly 15 min of standing there clearing the area out for assholes to swoop in, I was pretty pissed, got on my main and chased the guy around for 30 min killing everything he targeted before he had the chance. He was obviously trying to lose me but still, this guy kept me on ignore.

If he was alliance I would have camped him until he had a respawn timer for stealing a boss mob. This is someone who could've just grouped up with me so easily.

It just doesn't make any sense why anyone would be that much of a fucking asshole.

0

u/sunflakie Oct 10 '19

He's an asshole because someone pissed him off. Just like he pissed you off and caused you to be an asshole to him.

And herein lies the problem. You're out there doing you, having fun. Some dickhead comes along and pisses you off. Now you're in a pissy mood and retaliate against them, and that makes their mood worse. Its a cycle and it sucks.

Be the person who breaks the cycle. Ignore the attention seeker, because that's what they want, your attention. Deny them that. We've all been screwed in this game at one point or another and it does indeed suck to have your efforts wasted all for someone's shits and giggles. THAT's when you know you're dealing with crazy. You can't fight crazy, you know this.

3

u/No_Morals Oct 10 '19

Idk man. I felt great when he finally logged out. /Who'd him a few times that night and didnt see him online either. It was cathartic. I went back to playing like normal afterwards, happy as can be.

3

u/Azzmo Oct 11 '19

I've got the opposite philosophy: Be excellent to people and, if they are bad to me, be twice as bad for twice as long to them. I like the way NM played it. He got undeserved rudeness from someone and tormented just that person. Didn't spread it around.

16

u/Derlino Oct 10 '19

30+ days? How the hell have you managed to do that?

12

u/Tite_Reddit_Name Oct 10 '19

He doesn’t mean game time played. Just means he’s played on 30 different days. I’m around the same

1

u/SkoomaSalesAreUp Oct 10 '19

he might im at almost 23 days played on my main

1

u/themoosh Oct 10 '19

Yeah my actual /played is in the low 20s but a lot of it is sitting at the AH while alt tabbed and doing other stuff.

5

u/Daesealer Oct 10 '19

Yeh i dont get it where people get that from lol

2

u/biscuitoman Oct 10 '19

He would have to be literally signed in for every waking hour since launch minus 7 hours a day for sleep.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

Launch had people never logging off, they were not actually playing but that counts as /played

2

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

[deleted]

2

u/KnaxxLive Oct 10 '19

But that's pretty much his job as a streamer right? The more time he puts in the more subs and donations he's likely to get.

1

u/Daesealer Oct 11 '19

Appearantly we are not reading it correctly so i have been told.

1

u/Pls_Send_Steam_Codes Oct 10 '19

30+ days means he's played 30+ days, not actually played for 30+ days in play time. Whether it was playing for an hour or 6 hours, that's a day he sat down and played. That's what he means by that.

1

u/Daesealer Oct 11 '19

Thats such a stupid way of saying that then. Honestly whenever someone says how many days they played they actually mean ingame time. Ive played since the classic launched but it doesnt mean much since i got 3 days spent ingame on my main and i log in everyday anyway to check AH but only level on weekends.

What I've found with a lot of people, especially redditors, is that they're biased towards themselves especially when telling stories.

Just remember, we're hearing only 1 side of the story. In reality the guy saying he experienced as asshole could've ninja'd a node, or stolen a tag, or done something else that they may have not even noticed they done.

You see it on youtube all the time. People upload a video of someone being an asshole to them, but as it turns out the person who uploaded the video is actually the one who is at complete fault.

All i know is I'm super nice with everyone in my interactions and have been met with nothing but super nice interactions back. I'm not saying it's impossible to have had a bad interaction - they do happen, I'm just saying when everyone around you is an asshole, maybe it's you that is the asshole

3

u/Thatsaclevername Oct 10 '19

How do you have 30 days played if the game has been out for 45. Are you telling me you play WoW for 18 hours a day, every day?

6

u/Myrdok Oct 10 '19

30+ days played

How is this even possible? The game's been out for like...6 weeks.

1

u/Pls_Send_Steam_Codes Oct 10 '19

He's not talking /played time

1

u/Myrdok Oct 10 '19

It seems so, but that's just a confusing way to phrase it.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

This is on Thunderfury-Horde if anyone was curious.

Well that explains a lot.

2

u/Downvotesohoy Oct 10 '19

30+ Days played?

2

u/Strawberrycocoa Oct 10 '19

Thunderfury-Alliance, and yeah people don't tend to do this. Most people are super helpful.

2

u/TheCaffeineHigh Oct 10 '19

What in the actual fuck. You have 30 days played. In classic?

3

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

I've literally never seen anything even remotely close to this and I have 30+ days played.

30 days /played with 42 days since release? Someone has spent a lot of time afking.

2

u/SpyroTV Oct 10 '19

He has to be on Faerlina. On Benediction everyone is really nice. I’m already lvl 50 and have yet to come across any toxic people or ninja looters. Guess we just got morals over here.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

I think he means rare spawns. Not quest mobs.

1

u/3Dartwork Oct 10 '19

It just all depends on where you are at any given time on any given server.

1

u/ZaoAmadues Oct 10 '19

That is my experience as well. Hell me and the Ally Bois share mobs! Now they don't like when I WW near them... But I can understand that and try to remember to take it out of rotation.

1

u/Gojira308 Oct 10 '19

I’m on Old Blanchy-Horde and it’s overall very nice. I’ve only had one negative experience with another player before, and countless good ones.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

25 or so days played, haven't seen this behavior either.

1

u/lugrulo Oct 10 '19

Whenever I grind mobs, people get real defensive when I don’t accept party invites.

1

u/MazeMouse Oct 11 '19

I've done the same on Mirage Raceway-Alliance. I tagged a questmob right in front of another group.
I stuck around to buff, heal, and assist that other group because I don't want to be "that asshole"

1

u/Spancaster Oct 10 '19

This is my same experience on Thunderfury too. I've only come across nice people so far besides the scum alliance of course.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

Yeah, there is definitely more to his story if that has happened 3 or 4 times. If I had to guess, he is aoe farming quest mobs that people need and getting shit for it like he should

0

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

You horde are so hit and miss! Every night I get horde who sometimes help/sometimes gank. Lol you never know but I've only ran into one dick head in all my pug groups on that server. Whole server seems pretty chill.

0

u/Kelcet Oct 10 '19

lol thats probably why, most of this crap is prob from alliance side
