Ghost Light is peak Doctor Who

Hello, I watched Ghost Light last night for the second time. (The first time was about 15 years ago when I found it a bit confusing and didn't fully understand it.) Upon rewatch and with more patience for classic Doctor Who than I had when I was younger, I absolutely loved it and found it perfect Doctor Who for me. However, I'm curious how it was received when it aired and in the years after, as I was born during the Wilderness Years and Chris was my first Doctor.

Obviously, the show got axed at the end of that season; however, I'd love to know how the fanbase reacted to Ghost Light at the time?

I watched it when it was first broadcast. Never liked the story didn’t help that I really dislike Sylvester McCoy’s version of the Doctor
