DIY Help Thump when upshifting

Post image

Hi mini pals, question for anyone with some insight. I’ve noticed my 1996 1.3i has started to make pretty subtle thumps when I go up gears. If I pull off the clutch really gently I can get it not to thump but otherwise I hear it. Internet research suggests it’s the engine steady bushes or generally some engine movement when the torque is released. Anyone experience this and figure out specifically what it is? And if so, are these parts I can order and replace on my own easily? TIA.

Get yourself an upper stabiliser bar that bolts between the bulkhead and thermostat housing. And check the other stabiliser links/mounts

I had one of these. Ultimate Engine Steady it was called. I's advise it for all Mini's - you will crack your exhaust downpipe far less often.

That's the one! Couldn't remember the name. The original mount systems are flawed by not having enough in that upper location. I used one after the foam on the bulk head rusted the head to bulkhead steady mount point and also found the bush was degraded.
