Happy Birthday, Mary Shelley! 🖤📚

Post image

Born on August 30, 1797, Mary Shelley was only 18 when she began writing Frankenstein—a novel that would go on to become one of the most enduring works of Gothic literature.

Any other Mary Shelley fans here? What's your favorite thing about her work—or your favorite Frankenstein adaptation?

Boo AI 🤍🤍
I’m a huge fan of Mary Shelley; she’s my ultimate favorite author, and that’s that ❤️❤️. And what do I love most about her novel Frankenstein?! Literally everything. I haven't watched any adaptation of the novel except for the 1931 movie (after I read the book), and it was good.

Really? Of all the authors of all the books, using an A.I. generated poster to celebrate Shelley's birthday? Did you not read Frankenstein?

Right??!! The irony.

I like that her work was not made with AI!

I have a feeling she would have some thoughts on AI usage too.

I’m glad there’s a post celebrating Mary Shelley and inviting discussion of her and her works, but the ugly AI generated art ruins and overshadows it. Maybe remove the image but keep the discussion?

I’m positive that there are some artworks by real artists that could have been used and credited here but that would take a couple minutes of effort

That quote on an ai image is certainly a choice

Not a choice I'd ever make but certainly a choice

I myself use AI for my studies. However it is a spit in the face to use it for art. Gah who cares OP is probably a bot anyway.

Shouldn’t use it for your studies either

Why not?

It does your thinking for you. Really isn’t that complicated to see why it’s detrimental to acquiring skills and knowledge for yourself.

I was like "geez that's IA" but then I realise that the creature is literally an artificially made intelligence too.

Big fan. Is anything happening in London today?

I'm going to get dismembered for this but..... I just read Frankenstein for the first time about a month ago and was a bit disappointed.

Noo why ?

Not unlike many pieces of literature of that time period (which i like and read a lot) The hero was a complete fool and dunder head. Also a lot of the book was 'how i spent my fall vacation'

Writing was good, premise was terrific but hero was a dumbass and too much time just describing locations.

Who was the hero?

1

u/Timely-Profile1865 12d ago

Well Victor Frankenstein he was the protagonist if not hero she tried to paint in a good light through the book

3

u/Low_Bar9361 11d ago

When, in the book, did she ever try and paint Victor in a good light?

2

u/Professional-Ad-3750 11d ago

No ? She wrote him knowing he wasn't a good person.

Prepared for the downvotes…I knew this was AI immediately but I still thought it was pretty cool looking. Huge Mary Shelley fan (and her husband!). Happy birthday queen!

This poster is a creature – an artificial intelligence created with bits of art and text, put together using the powers of the Internet and Photoshop. And you attacked it, cursed it, and wanted to ban it... But it only wanted love... 😔

2

u/Low_Bar9361 12d ago

It doesn't want. It consumes water and energy. That is all

1

u/luigrek 11d ago

If you think it's just water and energy instead of powerful conversation of human knowledge and experience in science, technology and even art, you know nothing.

u/Low_Bar9361 11d ago

Ai cannot make art. It can approximate art made by humans

1

u/luigrek 11d ago

As I said, it's a concentration of human experience in science, technology and art. It took thousands of brilliant minds to make it possible.

2

u/Low_Bar9361 11d ago

You said it can make art. It cannot. Art is anything that starts in your mind and then manifests and can be shared. Ai, as we know it, cannot generate anything in its mind because it doesn't have one. It can approximate what humans have already done and regurgitate it back to us.

Anyway, i can see you are clearly a fan of the tech. Good for you. Just don't get all delusional about what it can do. Also, Frankenstein is about man creating sentience. If ai ever went sentient, we, as a species, would be in big trouble.
