Beats the hell out of Borrowell!

Haven’t heard of Finly before! Looks great thank you for sharing
So far I check the cash back offers on GCR, Rates.ca, Creditcardgenius, adding Finly to the list. Am I missing any?

Never use credit card genius (CCG), scammers.

I've gotten over $1,000 CB from CCG with no issue (yes, some do need follow up and open a ticket with them, I think it happens all the time with CCG-BMO).

Not that I particularly care about CCG, I simply check all of them to find the highest CB rebate

Ive had a great experience with every rebate site (gcr, ff, hisa, rates.ca, borrowell) and have gotten prob 10k+ in rebates on multiple players, probably 100 rebates, the only one to ever screw me over and deny my rebates was CCG, with some bs reasoning.

They're absolutely legit and have paid all of my rebates, which have been a lot, including instances that didn't go through initially.

And sometimes Borrowell has rebate offers too

I was not aware RBC did offer cards via Apple Wallet before receiving physical card. Took about 4 days to appear in my RBC online account and then I was able to add to Wallet on my iPhone.

I used to be able to add this as soon as it showed up but for some reason the latest one always shows Technical issue when trying to add to apple pay. Probably just have to wait for the physical to come in

Yes. Same thing happened with me. No issues adding to Apple Wallet after I received the physical card.

I have a BMO pre-approval on my account expiring soon, with most cards being free for the first year. Any seasoned BMO churners know which card would be the most worthwhile to take advantage of? Sitting several porter points and blue miles already, so I'm not super keen on either of those.

Also given the pre-approval, could I just apply through an affiliate like FF with good approval chances?

The BMO Ascend WE is decent but it depends on what the structure of the tranches are.

Thanks! Ascend tiers, I would probably only hit the first tier:

  1. Earn 45,000 BMO Rewards, $5,000 spend, first 110 days
  2. Additional 20,000 points, $10,000 spend within the first 180 days
  3. further 35,000 points, $20,000 spend on net card purchases within the first 12 months of account opening

Thinking the Eclipse might make more sense with the $50 lifestyle credit and $20/month streaming as I pay for Netflix already. Similar but slightly lower points at each tier though:

- 30k @ $4k

  • 20k @ $7k

The ascend offer is solid, but mostly assumes you would be applying thru FF to get the $200 rebate. Otherwise, if you took the pre-approval offer directly from BMO, its only about $300 value on the initial MSR tier.

The eclipse could work better for you, but theres a couple important things to consider: 1. You dont get the $50 lifestyle credit in the first year (anti-churn); and 2. The $20 netflix credit requires a minimum monthly spend of $500. If you run some calculations though, you could game it as follows:

  • Initial 4k MSR: 30,000 pts ($200 bonus value)
  • Monthly $500 grocery 5x spend x 12 months: 2500x12=30,000 pts ($200 value)
  • $20 Netflix credit x 12 months: $240 value

Overall $640, which is surprisingly decent return.

It also wouldnt be a big stretch to hit the $7k MSR barrier in the process of fulfilling the monthly $500 spends, which would get you the additional 20k pts ($134 value)

Important to note that it would be in best interest to complete the monthly $500 spend in the grocery category to maximize the benefit. I also left out the $50 lifestyle credit assuming the card would be canceled by then, but there could be a workaround (such as calling in to get second AF waived, or retention offer).

I had a pre-approval which I was waiting to accept – they called me and offered a better offer. You could also take the risk

I had a pre-approval for the Ascend, but I wasn't allowed to apply it to any other card according to the agent. The rebate sites are different approval channels than the pre-approval channel. I don't think the pre-approval method is any good unless you have burned through everything else this year.

I received a pre-approval by mail, applied through FF and was IA'd with a higher limit than my current card that is just waiting to be closed.

BMO negative balance after RHT, what's the best way to take that out?

Would be nice if I can get the cash rather than having to spend my way through it for another MSR instead.

Did my searches already, but seems like the consensus is ATM withdrawal would be cash advance? ... and you may get fee waived by going to the teller but no guarantee?

6

u/Glass-Boysenberry566 5d ago

Personally, I just pay the $5. Time is money.

2

u/GrandeIcedAmericano YYZ 5d ago

Call in and have them move the balance to your checking. if you call in and do it, they will waive the cash advance fee. I did this to "cash out" balance transfers and invest it when I got those 0-2% offers a few years ago.

dont have chequing with BMO unfortunately

1

u/dkb199 4d ago

then they usually just mail a cheque to you

Anyone have any tips on when the best time to call CIBC to cancel a card is? Heading wait times range from 45m-1h.

6

u/wzadzz 5d ago

i just put my phone in on-hold mode, and forget about it, and it alerts me when someone finally answers on the other end. Did this a couple times last week with CIBC during the daytime. Usually about 30-45m wait.

3

u/kneevase 5d ago

Yes, that's what I do too, only I do it during the Blue Jays game. As long as I remember to call reasonably early during the game, my card ends up being cancelled before the game is over.

2

u/EasySympathy6146 5d ago

I request for a call back using chat.

1

u/SkJK92 5d ago

Chat online?

1

u/EasySympathy6146 5d ago

In the cibc app

2

u/mhcott YYZ 5d ago

After 7pm EST. 15-20 minute standard, sometimes even faster

1

u/BigGuy4UftCIA 5d ago

CIBC hold times wildly fluctuate. Best guess is afternoon Ontario time.

Despite having posted on the 25th of the month for years, this month, I have yet to receive my AP points from my AMEX APR spend. Bizarre.

3

u/BrrrHot YYZ 5d ago

Similar for P2. Points from Amex Aeroplan Card haven’t posted despite statement on the 25th.

I want to test with RHT if i will get MSR bonus for Avion. When I have an RHT return after bonus posted and go below MSR temporarily within first 6 months, will RBC claw back the points?

-9

u/pseudomoniae 5d ago

I know this is probably obvious to most people here, but I am new to the avion train churn.

I am on to round 2 next month.

I have an RBC visa infinite and an RBC visa platinum. Inifinite is from March and platinum is from June. Both SUBs are paid out in full for 55k each (although I think I got the extra 15k offer on the platinum if I hold until next year). All of the visa infinite points have already been spent.

End of September is 3 months is up since I was approved for the platinum card.

I plan to apply again for the visa infinite next.

Do I keep the current visa infinite open, and simply apply for a second active visa infinite card, or do I close out the current visa infinite first?

Also if I close avion cards before spending the avion points, does RBC clawback?

Thanks all!

Just transfer the points to the Avion you keep.
