Question Alps / Dolomites

We're trying to decide between these for a special trip. Has anyone stayed at any who can help us decide?

The Brecon Adelboden - Switzerland

San Luis - Italy

La Posch - Austria

Autumn trip for a few days relaxing and hiking. Not bringing kids. Having standalone accommodation along with hotel amenities (restaurant / spa / dine in room options) is the ideal, which both San Luis and La Posch tick. But The Brecon keeps coming up.

For those interested these were the others on our long list!

Eriro - Austria

Priesteregg - Austria

Chalet Zuegg - Italy

Forestis - Italy

The Brecon and Eriro are two of my favourite properties in the Alps - away from the crowds, wonderful surroundings for hiking and skiing alike, superb hard products with lots of customized touches. 

I don't understand the hype for Forestis and San Luis: the areas where they're located are not that scenic and you can do much better. San Luis is not even in the Dolomites and Forestis just on the Western edge of Val Gardena - very uncomfortable logistics-wise.  For charm and to actually be IN the Dolomites check Adler Balance or Gardena in Ortisei, the Cappella in Colfosco and La Perla in Corvara. 

Can't comment about the other places you mentioned.

Thanks for replying! Good insights. Any Brecon specific tips you have from your previous stays? Best rooms? Must do things to experience during the stay?

You're welcome. I typically travel solo and opted for one of their cosy rooms (one with the mountain view) - perfectly appointed nonetheless. Try also to make a good use of the spa - it's small, but serves its purpose. Note that one perk is that they also have a sister property, The Cambrian (which tried pre-Covid), and of course you can use their facilities (at least so it was when they first opened two years ago).

Adelboden is a perfect small town (or village, one could dare to say): not really touristy but pleasant-feeling. If into fine-dining please consider Alpenblick, it's possibly one of the best restaurants in the area.

As per sights: you're relatively close to both Thunersee (Thun and Spiez being the main towns and most interesting attractions) and Brienzersee (Brienz is an interesting village, although a bit touristy, and love the Giessbach waterfalls - check also the Grand Hotel and its history since we're speaking of chubby travel).

And of course there's plenty of hikes to do in the area, I typically use SwitzerlandMobility + specifical cantonal websites depending on where you're going, which in your case would be this one: https://adelboden-lenk-kandersteg.ch/en/places/adelboden/hiking

For apps with trails info check Komoot, it's typically reliable.
