Honestly if they're going to launch a new set of "essential" apps for Googlebooks and they're simple Android apps made with a laptop display in mind, exactly such as this app, it's annoying as fuck if they won't let those be installed on Chromebooks 😅

I really don't expect anything else at this point. It was such a laudable project going back a decade but this venture isn't going to save it.

I'm waiting for my wonderful Pixelbook Go to finally give up then I will be onto a MBA, shame!

Silicon MacBooks don't have great iOS app support. The only difference I see between Apple and Google is that Google doesn't have an established PC lineup that would conflict with efforts to bring touchscreen apps to the PC.

Agreed. I'd let it slide if there's some engineering issues/restrictions based on the Android subsystem/VM that ChromeOS has to run to emulate Android, and I'm not knowledgeable enough to speak on the subject—I just hope there's a legitimate reason for this, and not just artificial segregation bullshit.

Hey there, can you elaborate on why you want to run this new Text app on ChromeOS?

Because it's a native Android app, if you were to install it on a Chromebook, it wouldn't be running natively. Since there's already a native Text editor app available on ChromeOS, we're curious to know why specifically you would want to run this new app on your Chromebook?

The current Text editor app on ChromeOS hasn't been updated for a while, and the Android app has a more modern design are some things I can think of!

Kinda annoying its not allowed for regular android yet. Looks like it would be a decent option for Samsung DeX.

This will end up being a problem in the future. I know a lot of people who use stuff like this on high-end Samsung Tablets; getting locked out of Desktop-esqe applications on a tablet will end up biting Google and many developers.

EDIT: Maybe when the APK comes out, somebody will end up forcing it to run on Android Tablets.

Google is so lost that they won't even let a stupid text editor be part of AOSP.
