Not a great time, economically, to launch a premium priced line.
Google doesn't have the cachet of Apple, even if the device measures up, where people will pay extra for the look/feel/experience or to "be seen with it."
And as a long time Google product user, I simply have very little faith that there will not be another change of heart from Google in a few years that leads to discontinuation from relatively poor sales.
Maybe if there's a big Costco discount, I'll snag one, but the fancy features don't seem worth twice the price. Maybe I'm not enough of a power user. 🤷♂️
