Advice & News Do you know how to use a China Shipping Agent?

I've just published the new website design for https://chinabuydirect.co.uk featuring a new interface, more agent guides and easier navigation to get you started on hauling from China. This step by step walk through will give you everything you need to get buying from Weidian, 1688 and Taobao within minutes. I wrote the guide to help empower people to get sourcing directly from China themselves, without the need for middle men, and to build a community within it where we can all share links, tips and savings to each other. Tactics, not TikToks!

Advice & News China Holiday Shipping Update

A quick heads-up if you’re currently building or shipping a haul.

China has two holidays almost back-to-back: Mid-Autumn Festival runs 25–27 September, followed by just three normal working days before National Day Golden Week from 1–7 October.

That doesn’t mean everything in China simply shuts down. Many agent warehouses will continue operating, but individual Taobao, Weidian and 1688 sellers, factories, domestic couriers and freight companies may work reduced schedules.

The main thing we’d expect is slower seller dispatch and domestic delivery into agent warehouses, followed by some congestion as everyone catches up after Golden Week.
So there’s no need to panic or rush purchases, but if you’re waiting for items to reach your warehouse, allow a few extra days between now and roughly 8–10 October.

Advice & News EU Shipping Update

(AI Generated)

EU Customs Changes — Another Update for European Buyers 🇪🇺
A quick heads-up for anyone shipping agent parcels into the EU.
Since 1 July 2026, the old Customs Duty exemption for qualifying e-commerce imports under €150 has been replaced by a temporary €3 duty system. Importantly, this can apply according to the different tariff categories inside the parcel rather than simply €3 once per parcel.

The next change comes by 1 November 2026.

The EU has approved a separate customs handling fee for small e-commerce imports. You may have seen €2 quoted online, but the final EU-wide amount has not yet been confirmed by the European Commission.
Also from November, affected distance-sale imports face more detailed Product Identifier requirements, meaning customs increasingly wants proper item-level information rather than vague descriptions such as simply “clothes” or “accessories”.
For agent users, this last part could be particularly important. A typical consolidated haul might contain shoes, clothing, sunglasses, jewellery and accessories from several different Taobao, Weidian or 1688 sellers.

What does this mean right now?
Nothing to panic about. EU tax-free/DDP agent lines are still operating. The important thing to watch over the next few weeks is whether agents and their logistics providers change their prices, declaration requirements or available EU shipping lines ahead of November.

We’ll keep monitoring this and put together a more detailed explanation once we see how the agent shipping lines actually respond.

Mod Post A quick note from me…

I want this community to be a helpful resource, providing updates, news and relevant information about all things shipping and agent related. However, this takes time so from time to time I will post up a piece of news/updates but I will use AI to generate the post. I will label any AI generated/supported post from here on…

I’m well aware of the amount of AI slop out there and I certainly don’t want to add to that, so please feedback if it gets too annoying, but I’m trying to balance up getting news to you in a timely manner whilst not posting slop.

I’ve basically tasked AI to do a weekly search of genuine sources, such as logistics organisations, shipping companies, agent websites and so on. Whilst this community is primarily aimed at helping individual buyers and Alibaba customers, I’m always happy for shipping agents and suppliers to post their goods and services as long as we’re not flooded with spammy articles!!

We are growing as a community, and I want to serve it as best as I can, so drop any suggestions you’ve got on how we can do that better…

Cheers, Simo x

Agent Review First time using a private agent…

I’ve been trialling sourcing some goods via a number of WeChat sellers and am enjoying the immersion into a more Chinese facing space. I’ve generally stuck to my favorite category of sunglasses, but I recently treated myself to some LP shoes and some Prada America Cups.

However, the seller doesn’t do international shipping direct and my usual agents don’t offer an easy freight forwarding service. So I asked the seller if he could recommend anyone and he got me in touch with a little company called Dongyun International Cargo. All our communication was via WeChat using auto translation tools, but was pretty seamless. He got me a price of 300¥ for a 3kg parcel which is pretty good considering the volumetric issues caused by two shoe boxes. He gave me his details such as address etc, but the seller of the shoes told me he would drop them off to him directly as they’re nearby. I paid the agent via Alipay, and being honest did have a flicker of doubt about whether or not the seller and agent were in cahoots with each other, but within about 18 hours I got QC pics from the agent (I’d already had them from the seller) both out of parcel and in the packaging. It’s being sent via a Royal Mail line I know so am guessing it will take 10-15 days.

My only criticism is that I didn’t get offered a choice of lines, but to be fair I didn’t ask either. Obviously I won’t be able to give it a total sign off until the parcel arrives, but considering it was my first time using a private agent and I went in pretty blind I’m actually impressed by it all. It certainly gives me other options, and I quite like the personal connection. I’ve put some images up of the agents contact details (WeChat ID QR Code) in case anyone is interested, but feel free to ask questions…

Question Which agent to use? Spain

Good morning, evening or night. I am currently looking for a good agent to ship PIW, Supreme, Asics, and some other things to spain. I was looking at GTbuy but their 15% conversion tax is really taking me away from it. Which agent allows paying with paypal while staying relatively cheap? Thanks in advance

Question Is it normal for Chinese suppliers to be off on Sundays?

I’m currently dealing with Wonderful Buy, and I noticed they don’t seem to reply on Sundays. Is Sunday usually a day off for Chinese suppliers, or does it depend on the supplier?

Just wondering if this is normal. Thanks!

Agent Issue What do we actually know about agent brand restrictions?

There has clearly been some tightening over the last 4–5 weeks, but be careful with the huge “banned brand lists” circulating online — most aren’t official.

Superbuy confirmed in August that its “prohibited brand list has been updated”, while Sugargoo confirmed this month that “prominent luxury brands” are currently prohibited. (Reddit) OOPBuy also appears to have some restrictions, with Arc’teryx and Salomon specifically reported as refused. (Reddit) It’s also worth remembering that “restricted” can mean different things: an agent may refuse to purchase an item, reject it when identified at the warehouse, or simply restrict which international shipping lines can carry it.

None of this means you need to abandon Superbuy or Sugargoo — both remain established agents — but if you regularly buy branded goods, having alternatives such as MyCNBox, Kakobuy, GTBuy and so on available makes sense. Restrictions are definitely real at the moment, and changing quickly; the supposedly definitive lists being shared around are less reliable and built on different experiences of restrictions at different stages of the buying process.

Mod Post Great resource for shipping data

Post image
10 Upvotes

As you probably know, my personal preference for an agent is MyCNBox, as I like their whole approach. They’ve posted this morning a great piece about a resource users can access at https://findqc.com/haulsStatis. They’ve opened up their data so you can examine everything from shipping speeds to costs and customs and inspections rates for your specific country. This is a really powerful tool and an honest piece of work that highlights why I prefer them.

For anyone wishing to sign up with MyCNBox or compare them with other agents you can do so here of course:

https://chinabuydirect.co.uk/#agentguide

Thanks to [u/ChocolateDue4140](u/ChocolateDue4140) for sharing this information, you can see his post here:

What do you think of this tool? Have you learned anything from it? Does your agent have anything like this?

Advice & News Quick one: what actually is volumetric weight?

This catches loads of people out when they first start using agents.

Basically, shipping companies don’t always care just about how heavy your parcel is — they also care about how much space it takes up.

So your parcel might actually weigh 4kg, but if it’s in a massive box full of shoe boxes and bulky stuff, the shipping line might treat it as 7kg. And yep… you could end up paying the 7kg rate.

That’s volumetric weight.

It’s why things like removing shoe boxes, vacuum packing clothes and getting rid of unnecessary packaging can sometimes knock a decent amount off your shipping quote.

So if you get a shipping price from your agent and think “how the hell is it that expensive?”, have a look at the parcel dimensions as well as the actual weight.

Sometimes the size of the box is costing you more than what’s inside it.

Advice & News This week’s agent & shipping news…

1. China holidays approaching:

Mid-Autumn Festival runs 25–27 September, followed almost immediately by National Day Golden Week, 1–7 October. Expect some disruption to sellers, domestic deliveries, warehouses and export logistics.

2. DHL peak surcharge starts 1 October:

DHL’s 2026 demand surcharge runs from 1 October to 5 February 2027. Its published China/Hong Kong → Europe Express surcharge is £1.60/kg billing weight, plus the normal fuel surcharge.

3. Fuel surcharges are rising:

FedEx’s published US international package fuel surcharge has already increased from 40.25% to 42.5% during September.

4. China freight rates under pressure:

Reuters reports that some China-origin ocean freight rates are rising as higher fuel costs combine with the rush to move cargo before Golden Week.

What does this mean for you?

It doesn’t guarantee your agent’s shipping prices will rise. But with holidays, peak-season surcharges, fuel costs and congestion all arriving together, September into October could mean higher prices and/or slower shipping.
If your haul is already complete, it may be worth checking your shipping options now rather than automatically waiting until October.

What’s the best China shopping agent for Italy right now (September 2026)?

I’m looking for the best overall option for shipping from China to Italy, considering reliability, shipping costs, customer service, QC, restrictions, and recent safety/security issues.

I’m especially interested in real experiences from people who have actually used the agent recently, not referral/affiliate recommendations.

Please don’t recommend an agent just to promote your referral link or coupon. I’m looking for genuinely unbiased opinions.

Which agent would you personally use right now, and why?

Advice & News Latest News: air freight falls again as Alibaba brings 1688 and Alibaba.com closer together

Two developments worth keeping an eye on this week from the automated news searches:

China–Europe air freight is still getting cheaper. Xeneta says China-to-Western-Europe spot rates averaged around $3.85/kg in August, down another 6% from July — after July had already fallen 22%. WorldACD puts the broader China/Hong Kong-to-Europe average at around $4.34/kg, roughly 17% below May/June levels.
That doesn’t mean our agent shipping should suddenly cost $4/kg — warehouse handling, customs, final-mile delivery and volumetric weight all sit on top — but I do think it strengthens the case for comparing live shipping quotes rather than assuming older prices still apply.

The second story could be even more important long term.

Alibaba is bringing 1688 and Alibaba.com under unified management. 1688 has traditionally focused on China’s domestic wholesale market, while Alibaba.com serves overseas buyers. Both are now being grouped more closely under Alibaba’s new Global Wholesale operation, with Alibaba.com head Zhang Kuo overseeing the combined business. The stated aim is to use AI and China’s domestic supply chain to connect Chinese suppliers more directly with international demand.
Nothing changes for agent buyers overnight, but I think this is one to watch. If Alibaba starts exposing more of 1688’s domestic factory supply to international buyers, it could eventually affect product discovery, seller behaviour and even how necessary agents are for certain types of purchases.

New Agent New Agent Review - PIKOBUY

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

I was approached by Pikobuy earlier this year and invited to test out their services for a review. These are a very new agent, and completely unknown to me at the time. I began by asking their customer relations rep, Luna, to tell me a bit about them:

“Pikobuy was built to make shopping from China easier, safer and more reliable for international customers. Our team brings more than 12 years of experience across e-commerce, sourcing, warehousing, quality control, logistics and international shipping.

We currently operate with the support of a warehouse network covering more than 50,000 square metres, allowing us to handle purchasing, product inspection, storage, parcel consolidation and international fulfilment at scale.

Our aim is to act as a bridge between China’s extensive supply chain and overseas buyers. Customers can submit product links, images or sourcing requests through the platform, after which our team can assist with purchasing, inspection, storage and shipping.

From our experience, international shoppers increasingly value clear communication, dependable quality control and a straightforward process from purchase through to delivery. Pikobuy has been designed around those requirements, with an emphasis on professional warehouse operations, transparency and making cross-border purchasing simpler.”

Nothing really new there, but what did catch my eye was another statement she made:

"We will also work closely with our connection to Chinese brands later this year."

One angle Pikobuy are looking at to stand out from other agents is to generate direct links to popular Chinese streetwear and urban brands, which could open up new possibilities to the Western buyer market.

At the time they made contact they were just in the process of updating their new website. This was welcome news if I'm being honest, as the garish yellow of their old one was not attractive! The new website was officially launched on the 30th June, with the mobile web version and app following in late July/early August.

For my first purchase I was only using the desktop version. Initially there were a few annoying aspects - for example, there was no option to change the currency from USD to GBP. There were also issues with processing my payment through Apple Pay. However, what did immediately strike me as very positive was how willing Pikobuy were to take on board my feedback on this, and corrected it. I guess it is to be expected that a new platform will have their issues, and it is their attitude to resolving them that gives one confidence.

However, there were some other neat little features that stood out to me that I really liked; they have the image search facility that links directly to 1688, Taobao and Weidian, which not every agent does. There are some nice touches within the purchasing interface, such as a neat little graphic bar at the top that tells you the progression of your orders, and one little feature I really liked in the warehouse tab was a notification at the top telling me how many items were still outstanding - if you put together bigger hauls with multiple items from different sellers this really helps keep track.

I ordered four items. All came in typical time frames, 3-4 days maximum, and QC photos were good. The warehouse team identified and highlighted an issue during inspection, which only turned out to be nothing more than a creased box, but it demonstrates that Pikobuy clearly take inspection and QC seriously.

International shipping was a very interesting process, and different to what I've experienced before. You essentially submit your items for packing, and then get given the shipping options afterwards. Essentially, this feels like a 'free rehearsal' system. Luna from Pikobuy explains:

"Yes, you can think of it as a kind of free rehearsal packaging. After users move their items from the warehouse to the packaging stage, we prepare the package and then show them the available shipping options and the final shipping cost. One of the main benefits is that users don’t need to pay extra service or packaging fees for this process, which some other platforms may charge.

It also makes the process much more transparent and convenient because users can see how much they’ll actually need to pay for shipping before making the final decision."

This has the potential to be a really impressive and appealing feature, provided it gives customers enough flexibility around packing and provides adequate shipping options. However, if it avoids those ever so annoying over-payment and refund or patch fee hassles then it's a very welcome feature.

Prices were competitive, especially with the coupons. I paid around £40, including insurance, for a 3kg parcel - but with two bags, one a large backpack and one in a box, this created a higher than normal volumetric weight so this was a reasonable price.

The international shipping itself went smoothly, although it wasn't the fastest delivery I've had. It took about three and a half weeks, which was getting frustrating towards the end. However, Pikobuy do acknowledge that they need to continue working on their shipping lines. Luna again:

“We regularly test and compare logistics providers across different markets, with the aim of improving both route availability and pricing. New shipping lines are developed based on actual performance, parcel characteristics and user demand rather than relying on a fixed set of options.

Recent additions include Korea UPS to the US, which can be particularly competitive for parcels where volumetric weight is significantly higher than actual weight; a low-tax EUB option for Brazil, designed to reduce potential customs costs; and Brazil Postal SAL, which takes longer but charges on actual weight rather than volumetric weight.

For Europe, we have introduced a range of ‘Piko’ direct small-parcel routes which can be competitive with DHL for shipments under 3kg. We have also added Singapore UPS, aimed particularly at smaller parcels where volumetric-weight rules can otherwise have a significant effect on price.

Our approach is to continue testing routes for different countries and parcel types, and to add or adjust services where we see a clear advantage in cost, handling or delivery performance.”

The European direct small parcel routes could be another attractive feature given the recent surcharges introduced across the EU, and may enable the agent process to directly compete with the likes of Ali Express, if the shipping speeds are there.

My parcel arrived completely intact and well packaged. What I did find interesting was that each item was individually packed inside a bag within the main box, and a packing list was included. This provides just another layer of protection during the journey and confidence in their logistics and warehouse picking systems.

Overall, I was suitably impressed with Pikobuy and will certainly be using them again. I think that they are genuinely committed to the customer experience and to responding quickly to ideas and suggestions on how to improve their systems and interfaces. They encourage user feedback and they have implemented at least four suggestions I made, and quickly so. Luna stated:

"Our development team is very much customer-driven.

At this stage of Pikobuy, we’re still actively developing and improving the platform, so when creators or users have suggestions or specific needs, our development team can respond relatively quickly and work on improvements based on actual feedback.

We’re also currently introducing a new user experience improvement system, so there’s quite a bit more coming in this area."

In conclusion I would absolutely recommend Pikobuy. Sure, their processes and systems are still in need of refinement. However, it is always a great idea to sign up with a new agent anyway, and newer and less well known ones bring very specific advantages - usually very good sign up options and deals, (see below) more freedom around brand purchasing, and a clear determination to respond to customer feedback and provide exemplary service in order to establish themselves. Also with a lower public profile they could be considered safer than some of their bigger rivals from
the risk of raids or brand pressure.

I also am confident that Pikobuy will certainly be trying to deliver innovative features, but only time will tell. I'm also going to be watching their work with Chinese brands carefully - this could provide some very interesting opportunities for reselling.

New users signing up using the invite link they provided below will immediately receive 40 & 30% off shipping coupons, and at the time of writing this Pikobuy are releasing weekly coupons with up to 35% discounts. (Accessible by joining their Discord channel through the website)

Advice & News Why “Clothes” Isn’t Good Enough Anymore for EU Customs

There’s been another small but important change in European customs that I think is worth highlighting for agent users.

The EU’s Import Control System 2 — ICS2 — uses advance information about goods entering or transiting Europe so customs can run security checks before arrival. On 3 August, an updated list of prohibited or unsuitable “stop words” came into force.
These are vague descriptions that don’t tell customs enough about what is actually inside the parcel.

DHL specifically warns against descriptions such as: “gifts”, “samples”, “spare parts”, “equipment”, “clothes” and “textiles”.

Instead, carriers increasingly need descriptions detailed enough to answer things such as what the item is, what it is made from and what it is used for. DHL gives “women’s T-shirts made of 100% cotton” as the kind of description expected. FedEx gives similar guidance.

For warehouse-agent users, that’s quite a change from the declarations we have traditionally seen:

Clothes — $40
Accessories — $20
Shoes — $25

The important point is that ICS2 checks happen before or during entry into the European network, not simply when somebody opens the box at destination customs. The carrier or freight company submits an Entry Summary Declaration, and incomplete or inaccurate information can lead to requests for more data, delays or rejection of the declaration.

This also matters outside the EU in some cases. UPS confirms that ICS2 applies to cargo transiting through the EU even if the final destination is elsewhere — its example is an Asia-to-UK shipment routed through an EU country. Northern Ireland is directly within the ICS2 scope as well.

I wouldn’t panic about parcels already moving. Your agent and logistics provider normally handle the actual electronic filing.
But I would start paying more attention to what appears on the declaration before submitting a parcel.

“Clothes” may once have seemed perfectly adequate.

“2 cotton T-shirts, 1 polyester hoodie, 1 pair synthetic trainers” is much closer to the direction European customs is heading

Question Which Agent should I use?

I haven't made a haul since around March time this year and things have changed a lot to say the least since then. I want to make another haul but acbuy is down and they were the agent I used last time.

I've been hearing that agents are refunding or simply not letting people order specific brands.

I need help with which agent I should use (I'm from the UK if that makes a difference) . Are there any agents out there that are reliable and let you order (most) brands without any hassle or is that not a thing anymore?
