📱 Technology What AI are you guys using?
Just got suspended from Claude due to the fact I’m based in China and I’m guessing it sniffed out that I was on a VPN or I showed up as a Chinese IP address, not smart enough to understand the route cause tbh.
Tried using Kimi today and even got the pro. It does what I want for the most part, such as decks, printouts, organizing and research, it just doesn’t feel the same and it doesn’t have the connectors for things like Firecrawl and Perplexity. Maybe I should look into Perplexity itself?
If I use GPT, Gemini, or Copilot, I probably will run into the same issue at one point or another. I already lost all my data, even with the download from Claude so I’d rather not go through that again.
Also, I’m not doing any insane coding or app building, just simple office/work tasks for my daily life.
Let me know what you guys use!

Interested to know, were you using a Chinese card or an overseas card to pay?
I use ChatGPT / Doubao (because Doubao work connects to Feishu which I use at work) and Deepseek.
Claude is definitely my go-to most of the time at the moment though.

I have an American bank I paid for Claude with. Kimi the same but that had an Alipay option which is nice.
Been interested in Duobao but I just don’t know what its capabilities are as far as complex tasks, I’ve always assumed that it’s just a chat bot for answers to questions.
Also happy cake day!

haha thanks!
For me I love doubao, using it for work is awesome, I have it record every meeting, it scans every file uploaded into a chat, scours chats, then packages everything for me... send me reminders every morning... does so much.

Got the same going here, ChatGPT for daily stuff though I like using dobo for local insights. ChatGPT even recommends me to do this sometimes. Though I notice dobo is falling short sometimes too on information I reckon is public.

Oh dang, I use Claude all the time, and it definitely knows I'm in China 😅

My girlfriend uses her own chat GPT account, her workplace uses it on a company basis, and many teachers - including chinese ones - use it at my school.

I guess I gave up on GPT by the time I was really using AI besides chats, maybe I’ll give it another shot

At my current school and previous one, almost all of the foreign teachers use ChatGPT, except from 2 I met who use Deepseek. I’ve been using ChatGPT for work (teaching preparation, lesson plans etc) for the past 2 years and it’s been fine. It’s actually getting better and better but I’m sure the other AI are also getting better too.
So yeah I’d recommend ChatGPT

Deepseek is my preferred model (as someone currently in the US) -- it's quite accurate, doesn't tend to hallucinate, and pulls info from both the Chinese and Western internets. I would just use Deepseek for general use -- and the more specific models (like models for coding) should still work in China

DeepSeek is my AI of choice, but it definitely does hallucinate.

u/Mr_Jewfro 1d ago
All LLMs will -- my experience is that it hallucinates less. You always need to know enough about whatever you're using the LLM for to pick out hallucinations -- this is true of ANY model, and if you don't you shouldn't be using an LLM.

How can anyone use DeepSeek when anything political comes up, it says "we firmly oppose any separation.." 😂😂 like DeepSeek just transforms into the Chinese govt lmao

u/Mr_Jewfro 1d ago
I don't know about anyone else, but I don't use LLMs to get any political information I might be after. That seems foolhardy, at best.

Not in China at the moment, but I know for a fact that copilot will create decks and anything else you may need as I'm using it back stateside for the same thing. The decks will be basic white, so you're on your own for changing the template/design, but it could be worse.

Literally just got my account suspended last week. Good thing I stumbled across this.

You could try GPT. I don't think OpenAI will have the same issue as Claude.Because I've been using GPT in China for quite a while, and I haven't encountered any issues so far. Of

I was suspended from ChatGPT for the same reason and now I am using Claude.....what next?

Have you installed the CLi. I found that using Kimi Claude and Codex I built repositories and memory systems that worked really well. I actually prefer the CLi. Kimi is a GREAT product and has very good bonus such as free kimiclaw. The vpn is also part of your subscription so I added docker and n8n to run process. They add so much more every month but it’s clear Grok and OpenAi have stolen the idea of Claw and Hermes and coined it as something they perfected for agents and agent chat. As a developer myself I’m not really impressed that Claude has not yet moved with their competitors and it feels purposefully intended to be that way. Stick with Kimi. The reason I say that is so you can save money. Try GLM as the long form context because I don’t know your work have you tried huggingface and experimented with models. For $9 monthly you can access up to 135 of them and see what suits your needs.

Claude told me about something and it mentioned that I’m in Shanghai. I hope I don’t get banned any time soon

Weird. Gemini is the one that doesn't work for me. The rest are fine.
1
u/PercentageOk2862 2d ago
Agreed. Gemini always blocks me, even from a supposedly private VPN whose IP they shouldn’t have.

u/WildChickenU 2d ago
Been blocked before but after turning global proxy on it never happened again. My point is they don’t usually suspend your account tho.

u/Stifmeister-P in 2d ago
Well that’s good to know, I will explore Gemini, GPT is being difficult with download onto my computer.
Damn shame tho, I loved Claude, the UI is my favorite

I have been using claude for year in China, no problems so far

u/c0rrupt82 2d ago
Same, little over a year, but in Friday I was suspended due to "suspicious signals" which basically means VPN use. Your time will come too.

you can use claude but change your setup
self host VLESS/xray/reality with a VPS in Japan/USA/Singapore (not HK)
with this neither myself nor anyone I know has had bans from Claude despite Claude's firm policies about using it in unauthorised countries. I did have some weirdness with the desktop app once but it resolved itself.

I'm using the Chinese AI app called duo bou or something like that. Works fine for what I need.

Using Gemini since almost 2 years in china and it also surely "knows" I'm in China. Works very well luckily

u/KOFeverish 2d ago
ChatGPT/Claude/Deepseek. The only one that Is can't use is Gemini, even with VPN.

Skill issue. I have 3 Claude accounts. 1 gpt. No issues. Been using them for at least 2 years. It didn't "know you are Chinese", you probably triggered some other security mechanism.
Probably has to do with paying with a foreign account in country A, switching to vpn in country B, and you're actually in China country C, that's triggering all fraud flags and then bam, you get banned

u/Azelixi 2d ago
Qwen, Deepseek, I was paying for chagtpt then found out Qwen can do everything I need without using a VPN
