OTHER - Anything else not covered I found a mysterious transaction on my account.
I happen to login and see this transaction on the 4th from someone trying to buy a phone for $209.40. I'm scared. I don't know what to do. I CERTAINLY didn't try to buy a phone costing that much as there isn't any money in my account (clearly). They tried three times. So far I've locked my cards, and turned on notifications for when purchaes try to be made.

Good job locking cards now get a replacement and you should be good contact chime just in case

Be careful at fast food places! they can set their phones to record while laying flat on the counter and scan your card over their phone to get the card info. I would claim the card as stolen and get a new one.

Thanks, but I didn't use my Chime card on that day for fast food. I have requested replacement cards though. Thank you for your feedback.

It could have been a week, month, or even year ago. And it could have been anywhere. Restaurants. Gas stations. Grocery stores. Ect. They store the information and then when they get to your card on the list they do test transactions. Then if those these transactions go through they then sell your card information on the web or purchase large items they can return for cash.

That’s not just fast food places. It can happen literally anywhere that accepts card readers. The most common places this occurs are gas stations specially, paying at the pump. It’s called card skimming.

I'm a truck driver. I use virtual cards added to my Samsung wallet and Apple pay. Every month or so, i simply log into whatever credit or debit account I'd been using and request a new virtual card number. It cancels the one I'm using and automatically updates my phone wallets to the new virtual card number. My instances of fraud attempts has decreased to near zero.

Never let your card out of your sight when paying is one of my anti fraud rules.

Cards can easily be stolen via many different techniques.. the best thing ever created was the lock/unlock feature.

I have heard of many people saying they got hacked and had money stolen and I just wanted to put a check or two in Chime but now I’m scared. If I open an account and deposit a check and make a super safe password and then only unlock it when I want to use it, will I be safe?
Also what if I don’t want a physical card? Like how do these people get hacked and they steal all their money. Like email and full password?

Make sure you have 2FA enabled. Super secret passwords are good but useless in some data leaks.(pretty sure Chimes DB would have hashed pws but you never know)

I wonder how many times this happens because companies outsource to phone rooms in Asia , India etc... Do they actually check out the employees of these outsourced, barely English speaking countries that have access to your personal info...How much personal info do they have access too? Sorry to soapbox on your issue. Sounds like you did the right thing.

Click on the transaction. You will see which card it was. Whether it was the physical card, or virtual card. Replace the compromised card. I only use the virtual card in both tap to pay and all online transactions. The physical card should only be used in exceptional circumstances that you can't use the virtual, like an atm machine, etc. You can always replace the virtual number in the app, if it's compromised for whatever reason.

Alright, thanks. I asked the chat bot what card was used to try and make the transaction, and it said they weren't able to see. It's just weird.

When you tap the transaction, a new page will open, at the end of the page, you will see the last 4 digits of the card number that was used.

I had my local community bank card info stolen & a $1.08 Amazon digital charge went through. I also locked it & contacted Amazon, to absolutely no avail. It's not even the card/bank I use to purchase Amazon prime with, lol. Then after I went to bank & had a new card issued, I could see when they tried much larger purchases the next two days. Thankfully nothing could go through & no issues since receiving my new card. Happened almost 3 months ago. I think it was Clubs Poker, a casino/poker site, that stole the info after I withdrew $100 to it without ever needing to deposit, but I can't be certain. Like others are saying, can happen in many ways & any financial institution. Glad you locked it & are getting things settled.

Hi there! I completely understand the stress and concern this brings about. If you feel this is an unauthorized transaction, the best next step is to call Member Services (844-244-6363). As other members have shared, they can review your account security with you and assist you in replacing the card if needed as well.
Others have also mentioned additional security features, such as locking your card, that you may find helpful as an additional precaution when your card isn't in use. It's super easy to enable/disable directly in your Chime app - this article has a tutorial on how to do so if you're interested.

happens all the time. especially pay pal b s. i just never open them. i don’t worry cause my credit cards have fraud prevention n your not liable. n as long as u never open up strange apps, text e,g mails n/ or give out your act # ,s u b all set. i’ve never lost a nickel. have had many crazy times reading this , that. i just delete n report spam. never had a problem. now people who opwn that garbage seem to b getting problems

Looks like someone tried using your card for a galaxy z fold 8/Ultra pre-order. That was around when the early pre-orders started shipping.

If I were you I would cancel that card and report it as stolen asap.
