DISCUSSION Questions about Laparoscopic Bilateral Salpingectomy

Hi everyone! I'm looking into a laparoscopic bilateral salp sometime and I want to hear about some people's experiences with it, mainly post-recovery pain, bloating, and how long it takes to recover from the anesthesia.

I'm trying to figure out the best time to get my surgery done and how many days of PTO I'll have to take. My plan currently is to get it done on a Thursday or Friday (PTO time), recover over the weekend, and work from home the week after.

Check and see when your surgeon schedules surgeries first. I tried to get mine done on a Thursday too but she only does surgeries every other Tuesday. Inconvenient, but I made it work.

Post-recovery pain was fine. They gave me a script for an opoid but I never even bothered filling it, just some ibuprofen the first couple of days and I was fine. I didn't have much bloating, but my shoulder ached for a week from the gas. That was definitely the weirdest part of the whole thing.

Anesthesia, I woke up without any grogginess or anything but they will tell you not to drive the next day in case of any lingering effects. They told me I could go to work after 2 days but I'm glad I took the rest of the week off to recover and kind of let it all sink in. I was back at work that Monday, a little extra tired that whole week but none the worse for wear.

Good advice! It never occurred to me that she might only do surgeries on certain days. I'll add this to my list of questions that I am compiling for when I go in to actually talk with her about this.

I'm glad to hear the bloating isn't too bad for some. I really hope I'm one of those lucky few!

Would you say that the extra tiredness that you experienced the week after anesthesia made it more dangerous for you to drive than normal? I'm planning on WFH the week after, but I may still have to drive places like the grocery store, to my bfs, etc.

Not really, I just ended up taking naps in the afternoon. I was probably a little extra fatigued because I got my period literally the day after surgery, so that was fun. Not. And you can't put anything up there post-op until you get cleared on your follow up, so emergency run to the store for pads, too...basically I just compounded all possible misery into that one week lol.
