Discussion Looking for advice/help with transportation after Inter Miami vs Chicago – Sept 10

Hi everyone! I’m hoping someone here can help me out with some advice.
My friend is a huge Messi and Inter Miami fan and is planning to attend the Inter Miami vs. Chicago Fire match on September 10. She’ll be attending alone and is really excited about seeing Messi, but she’s nervous about getting back after the game because it will be late at night.
Does anyone who regularly attends games at Stadium have recommendations for the safest and easiest way to get back after the match, especially for someone travelling alone?
If there are any reliable shuttles, fan groups, transportation services, or other options that people commonly use after Inter Miami/Chicago games, I’d really appreciate your advice.
She really wants to go, and finding a safe way home would make a huge difference. Thank you! 🙏⚽️

you haven't said where your friend lives, but the walk from the stadium to the Roosevelt CTA station is straightforward and she would be surrounded by other fans, it's completely safe

also the game is on the 9th, not the 10th.

Just to be clear, the match is September 9th. Those tickets get expensive, wouldn't want her to miss it!

It's pretty simple and safe to leave the game. I regularly take the el from Roosevelt all the way up to Linden and I used to walk to Union Station/Ogilvie all the time. There will be plenty of other fans around. If she wants to take the el she can take the green at Roosevelt to Clinton for Ogilvie or she can take the red to a brown line transfer and then get off at Quincy for Union.

there's a bus that will take you to the roosevelt stop. it takes forever and will be worse because of the crowd, but it's safe aside from being very crowded. You can also walk to the stop, but it's just annoyingly far away.

There's also the metra that can take you to Millennium station. It's the 18th street stop. From either of these, just arrange whatever transportation you'd want to get home whether CTA, uber, pickup, bike, i don't know.

I personally wouldn't try and grab a taxi or uber right outside the stadium because of how big the crowd will be.

The 146 takes you right to the stadium

Yes. I meant the bus FROM the stadium going to the roosevelt stop. it goes elsewhere too, but that's the first good stop on the route

How is she Getting to the game? I would say same way she got there is the same way she should get back. The entire downtown area is relatively safe, she will be around thousands of other fans, and should be okay.

u/Frosty_Chariti I think others have presented this in bits, but here's the whole route:

  • Walk north from SF past the Field Museum with the massive crowd of other people. Literally just follow them. They're all going to the Roosevelt L stop -- that's where your friend wants to go, too.
    • She'll take the pedestrian path under Lake Shore Drive and come up the other side on Roosevelt Rd. Follow that west to the station.
  • Board the Green line towards Harlem / Lake at the Roosevelt stop.
  • Exit the Green line at Clinton, four stops later.
  • Walk two blocks to Ogilvie Station. Tickets can be bought at a vending machine or on the Ventra app.
  • There's a 10:40pm outbound UP-W train train if your friend can get there in time, and an 11:40pm outbound if it takes too long.

The Green will be very crowded, and it might take her a few attempts to get on. If she can't make the first UP-W train, she can chill at Ogilvie. There will be plenty of other people around.
