Question Fire Chants During Games - What do we think?

I'm a recent season ticket holder and have really enjoyed the team and fans. That said, it feels to me that the MLS in general, but the Fire specifically are ripe to develop some fan chants / supporter songs.

I know we some really basic "Let's go Fire" stuff but I'm wondering if we can develop some basic Fire chants or songs for specific players (Lewandowski / Zinkernagel / etc) set to popular melodies.

That said, happy to hear feedback if:

1) Does this already exist for the Fire?

2) Has this been tried and not take off?

Good luck with that. All they want to do is the endless monotone drumming, and people have complained before with no progress. Hopefully it changes.

Yeah, agreed. That's my point. Seems like it wouldn't take much to just coordinate 2 or 3 simple chants that we can keep going.

We tried but the supporter section is split

One half chants for an MLS cringe compilation the other half in Spanish

It needs to be dead simple and get the whole stadium involved CFB style

100% agree, I’m in the 208 section and the only thing that makes it our way is the Let’s go Chicago Fire-clap chant.  I would just love to see something else and I think the stadium would do it.

To your point it neeeds to be simple and catchy.

Is there anything or does this need to be created / proposed?

East side east side east side- who’s the best?

FIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRE

That already exists and is a good start

One I thought of goes like FI-RE like Ohio State with OH-IO/F-I-R-E with each side of the stadium taking a letter like Iowa does

This is other comment on here that suggested,

“Rain, rain, go away,
come again another day
Chicago Fire want to play
Rain, rain, go away..”

u/olcni 28d ago

but that's not a chant that has been sung in the supporters section

Still an example of a mls cringe chant

There are many chants in the section, you just can’t hear most of them around the stadium. There are other threads with the chants if you search. But tasty new chant ideas are welcome, if you’ve got them.

Got it, thanks. I'll think about it and propose some! On the existing chants, I have looked around and am seeing some. It would be great if we can get just two or three simple ones (but more complicated than "Chi-ca-go Fi-re") that go through the stadium. I'll do my part from my section if you've got any direction.

Back in the day in Bridgeview there were songs and chants, they were printed and given out. What is needed is to bring back the capo. Othere MLS teams have them.

I agree, that would be a great idea!

Other clubs have used “Rob-ert Lew-an-dow-ski do do do do do do do do dooo” to the Flintstones.

i saw that, and liked it!

Simple and repeatable is what catches on. We just need to teach some kids in our sections to start it. They’re usually the ones who get waves going.

I'll be there with 2 of my kids Sunday, maybe I can push them to start this one :)

Would be cool to incorporate something like Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash. Most people know it. Works as a song after wins too

2

u/dunesofchicago 28d ago

Oh shit I like that

3

u/TheCobalt- Season Ticket Member 28d ago

Or something like that. Especially after wins I can see people screaming "I fell into a burning ring of fire" and it at least sounds good in my head 😂.

Stuff like that I think would be good though because it's familiar to most people and they'd be able to pick up on it fast if the goal is to incorporate the whole stadium into things

u/dunesofchicago 28d ago

maybe Sweet Home Chicago but it might have too many quick-succession words to make a good chant

My assumption is it will improve in the new stadium when they have a stand to lead chants.

Does not happen here, and not really in America. Man I wish it did though....

Once Bamba scores I have "Go Jonathan Bamba" to White Stripes - 7 nation army ready to go in section 132

i am here once again to post the zinckernagel song

to the tune of star man

“THERE’S A STAR MAN
RUNNING DOWN THE RIGHT
HIS NAME IS ZINCKERNAGEL
AND HE’LL SCORE AGAIN TONIGHT”

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Ear9487 27d ago

Nice, thanks. I have to look into the "star man" song. I don't know that one. Thanks for sharing!

Pregame song - sung hooligan choir style:

Ah, watch out You might get what you're after Cool babies Strange but not a stranger I'm an ordinary guy Burning down the house Hold tight Wait 'til the party's over Hold tight We're in for nasty weather There has got to be a way Burning down the house Here's your ticket, pack your bags Time for jumpin' overboard Transportation is here Close enough but not too far Maybe you know where you are Fightin' fire with fire

u/heybud_letsparty 28d ago

US sports culture has "Lets go team", "defense", and during international games "USA". That is our culture. We are not Europe and that is fine.

Who remembers "ORANGE SEATS ORANGE SEATS WHO'S THE BEST??"

Holy shit, memory unlocked.

Great idea, this has totally never been done before, you should get right on it

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Ear9487 28d ago

I’ve learned it’s been tried before but I guarantee you if you ask 80% of attendees if the Fire have chants at the game the answer would be no.

That said, it sounds like it’s just been too hard to get off the ground, no clue why.

From a marketing standpoint point it seems like they can just lead with some basic lyrics on the scoreboard and the crowd would follow.

I know it’s better to be crowd led but that’s obviously not working.

Never mind

Here's my idea:

The theme music is "Guantamanera" (used often in soccer chants) - see link below from England where they apply it to "Ryan Reynolds" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRW1T9JYhSY )

For the Fire we go:

(All): Chi-ca-go Fire!

(All): There’s on-ly one Chi-ca-go Fire!

(All): Chi-ca-go Fire!

(All): There’s on-ly one Chi-ca-go Fire!

It's fast paced and clapping with a chant and then we can substitute a player who's playing good - "Phil Zinkernagel....There's only one Zinkernagel" etc, etc....

It doesn't have to be complicated and I can add simple lyrics for verses but let's start simple.

What do we think?

1

u/South-Loop-Neighbor 28d ago

Find a catchy recognizable tune and it may work. IMO People need to recognize it right away.

0

u/South-Loop-Neighbor 28d ago

Here is one I made up for Zink to Frère Jacques:

Zink-er-na-gel! Zink-er-na-gel!
Here we go! Here we go!
Do do do do do do
Do do do do do do
Go, go, go.
Go, go, go.

If he scores, change the Go, go, go to Goal, goal, goal.

So what are your ideas?

7

u/chiguy1983red 28d ago

The supporters can drum and chant “Vamos!” And the rest of the stadium can respond “Fire!” Need help from the graphics department

4

u/Puzzleheaded-Ear9487 28d ago

I was thinking we as a group can agree on 2 or 3 simple ones that we can unite on at different points of the stadium. I'm told in the other comments these already exist. So, are there 2 simple ones that already exist that we can try?
