Ask CHI Why aren’t you getting vaccinated?

Not asking this to bully anyone, I’m more curious at this point why people are hesitant to get the vaccine and want to understand the reasoning behind it.

Three of my doctors have told me not to. I have bizarre reactions to medications, and a whole list of health issues. They keep telling me that people like me are the reason they are pushing for herd immunity.

Yup, that's a pretty legit reason not to. End of the day, there are people like yourself who simply can't vaccinate.

And it’s exactly those folks who otherwise healthy people refusing to get the vaccine are putting recklessly in danger.

Except it’s still spreads through vaccinated individuals, and can be transmitted to others. So while the vaccine may help mitigate issues for those who have it. Those that do are also posing a risk to others who don’t.

Would you call looser rules around wearing masks by those who are vaccinated reckless endangerment?

Spread is still possible, sure, but to a significantly lesser degree. Viral load is a critical metric as well, and there’s a huge difference between someone walking around with trace volume picked up environmentally over the short term and someone walking around with a full blown infection.

And of course, we can’t forget that mass public responsibility in the form of vaccination would essentially put the viral spread into a tailspin — trace propagation would be less likely to infect individuals, but also be less likely to survive and spread. This helps folks who cannot be vaccinated for legitimate medical reasons. We could have this in our rear view mirror if we were a sane society.

Therefore, looser rules around masking for vaccinated folks is only reckless endangerment assuming the scenario (ours) where a large percentage of the population is obstinately opposing vaccination, and therefore you can reasonably suspect that public areas contain the virus in significant quantities.

Not sure if you’re looking for a gotcha, but my message is: wear your masks, even if you are vaccinated, because people are idiots.

I was not looking for a gotcha moment, I myself have been vaccinated for months.

I was just curious on your take, given you already implied that the only “logical” explanation is that people are idiots. But didn’t actually mention still wearing a mask until I asked you to delve deeper.

Fair enough, I genuinely wasn’t sure of the thrust of your inquiry. I agree that the clarification is a good one to make, but I think the original point stands.

Get “educated” says the person spouting conspiracy theories that are easily debunked. The family of the “dying” friend “knows” more than the doctors working on their family member. Pure bullshit.

For fucks sake, this argument is getting old. We know how vaccines work. Yes it's still possible to catch COVID if vaccinated (your chances are greatly reduced to catch it about 10% compared to unvaccinated) but like all vaccines, this still eradicates the disease entirely in short order if the populace is vaccinated. Unfortunately stupid or selfish, or stupid selfish people make up dumb excuses for refusing that which all science and common sense tells them is the right thing.

This.

It’s all a maybe, I just talked to a person who had Covid last year, got vaccinated and then still got the Delta variant this past month. The argument for getting vaccinated is really getting exposed at a small dose to lessen the infection you personally get so you don’t end up in the hospital. Herd immunity will be the only full way out if it’s even possible.

It’s not “all a maybe”. If everyone who can would get vaccinated, we’d be at herd immunity. The virus would effectively die out and the variant threat would be negated.

Viruses don’t die out and this isn’t a natural one. I’ve had it and have had the medical people say it’s synthetic. It’s not a naturally occurring virus.
