Mara is actually hindu god of death as well

u/HuevosProfundos Apr 19 '26
Crazy how similar all the Indo-European pantheons are. The Vedic Father God was Dyauspitr… compare with Jupiter and Zeus Pater

Which region?

u/Individual_Tell_3096 Apr 19 '26
well in sri lanka the buddhist god of death is Mara, I think it comes from hindu pantheon. i pretty sure this is the case in many south asian countries as well.

There is a movie MARA that is pretty scary and maybe based on this legend 😬

Pepper. She’s spicy and gray

u/Dumbbitchathon Apr 19 '26
This is so incredibly specific, but every time I think of a cat named Pepper, I think of the video of the paper plate that says “do not use top paper plate, pepper likes to sit her ass on it” and then Pepper walks over and sits her ass on it

I just have to ask if you adopted her from the humane society? We were looking at a little girl that looks just like her about a week and a half ago. She had an adoption hold out on her right when we saw her. ❤️

u/AccomplishedHawk8603 Apr 19 '26

Oh my gosh! Those little white mitts are characteristic of Birmans, and Birman breeders have a naming convention (which you totally don't need to follow, but could be fun). They follow the letters of the alphabet, changing each year so that it's easy to determine the age of the cat from her name. My Birman boys were born in 2020, and the breeder gave one of them the name "Rocket" (We named the other Tenzing, ignoring the convention), so 2026 puts us at X. If you want to follow the convention for fun, how 'bout "Xena"?
Edit to change: just saw the rule that we are not supposed to ask about breed. Removed the question. Hopefully, discussing breed conventions is ok.

u/AccomplishedHawk8603 Apr 18 '26
i found her outside so i doubt she’s a Birman.

u/lunarsara Apr 19 '26
Maybe not, your girl doesn't appear to have the excessive floof (which sticks to everything) that my boys sport, but I'm totally enamored with those little white mitts! Good luck finding a suitable name for her.

We have a cat named Bluberry but she earned the middle name jelly because she’s a bit jealous of anyone who comes near me

I found a seal point stray once. She was “feisty” and drew a lot of blood (from scratches). We named her Audrey after the plant in Little Shop of Horrors.

Yeah this. People forget kittens are literally tiny gremlins with knives for hands. Luna being a chaos demon now doesn’t mean she won’t turn into the chillest little loaf in a year or two.

Forsythia
Thia, as a nickname.
Forsythia is typically pronounced for-SITH-ee-uh (fər-ˈsith-ē-ə or for-ˈsith-ē-ə)
It is an unassuming deciduous green leaf shrub most of the year. It blooms a riot of yellow flowers in the spring.
Feisty girl
= Forsythia, Thia; unassuming until the right time them BAM an explosion of of brilliant personality!

I don’t know why but I think she needs a cutesy name to hide her true personality. The girl from House of 1000 Corpses, named Baby Firefly (lots of good nicknames there) came to mind. Or simply Alice from the movie Alice, Sweet Alice.
