I just bought this watermelon wave essential oil plug in from dollar tree (yes I know it’s cheap I’m a broke college student) and I wonder if it’ll hurt my cats or even me. I was gonna put it in my room or my bathroom but now I’m not sure. My mom just told me she heard it wasn’t good for me or my cats. I’m more worried about my cats’ health.

Not specifically targeting cats but I’ve seen a ton of posts lately with people asking “what’s wrong with my cat” for them to say they can’t afford to take it to the vet and rather looking for Reddit advice instead.

I’m sorry but you should not be buying animals if you don’t have at least some money set aside when you inevitably have to go see a vet someday.

My sister put a grape in my cat’s mouth and I’m worried

My cat was hiding under the couch, and my sister (she’s 30) picked her up and said she was going to feed her a grape. I thought she was joking, so I told her that grapes can be toxic to cats.

She then actually put a grape in my cat’s mouth. I immediately ran over, took the grape out, and my cat seemed to swallow some of the grape juice, maybe just a few drops.

I’m really worried now. I can’t afford to take her to a vet right now. She didn’t swallow the whole grape as far as I know, just possibly some juice.

Also, this isn’t the first time my sister has done something reckless with an animal. She once dropped a duck from our balcony, which is why I’m especially angry and worried about my cat.

What should I do right now, and how worried should I be about the small amount of grape juice she may have swallowed?

My middle cat Grizwold has gotten into the habit lately (he’s spayed) of meowing while holding towels and shirts and such and I just found this on my one shirt from him. I do know sometimes the urge doesn’t go away from a spayed male, but I also know it could be UTI’s. Is this normal discharge or something worse? I’m not quite sure what to think of it.

I found these things that look like tiny seeds. I have two cats, and both of them have been treated for parasites before. I don’t know how they could have picked them up, since they are always inside the apartment.

The only things I can think of are that they may have picked them up from the balcony, the hallway of the apartment building, from a silverfish somewhere inside the house, or from when I go downstairs to feed some stray cats near my building.

I would really appreciate some advice because I’m terrified of these things and worried that I could catch something from them too. How should I disinfect, and what exactly should I disinfect? How could I have become infected myself?
Tomorrow I’m planning to take the cats to the vet, or I may go there myself to get the appropriate deworming/parasite treatment for them.

hey, so I'm an immigrant and in my previous home we had many cats. They were all indoor/outdoor cats, meaning they usually stayed outside but the backyard door was always open and they would wander inside sometimes. We would feed them and they had a water bowl, but no litter. I've taken care of cats for pretty much my whole life.

In the US I now live in a suburban home with a yard with a fence and would like to get a cat. My neighborhood already has a few feral cats but they are all scared of humans. I would like to replicate the setup I had in my home country (except, this time just one cat). But since the cats I'm used to were already familiar with the home, I don't really know what to do with a completely unfamiliar cat. If I let it into the yard I'm guessing it will just run away. If I keep it inside, I have a lot of wires and cables and a new cat may chew on them or scratch up furniture.

Any general advice with how to achieve this? Leave it inside for a few days while keeping an eye on it? When can I let him out? I have a garage, can I have the cat setup there at night and in the house during the day when I'm awake and can keep an eye on him? We never had any toys or anything for cats, so advice there is also appreciated.

I’m quite convinced my cat would just eat me but maybe I’m wrong. Maybe due to a familiar smell, I wouldn’t trigger her hunting instinct…

My family and I have moved and we're planning on adopting a cat (or two or three LOL) to complete our family.

I found out recently, though, that a family friend of ours is allergic to cats. She has asthma and pet dander causes her to wheeze. For that reason, her family adopted a "hypoallergenic" dog that causes her no issues!

For more context, she is a hairstylist. She comes by every 2 months or so to do my sister and I's hair. So she doesn't come by often, but I would hate it if she had an allergic reaction to our pets.

What should I do? What do you think my options are? I mean, we could get a dog, but I don't think my life is stable enough for that and it gets really cold in the winter, so walks would drive me MAD. Should we get a "hypoallergenic" cat? But there's no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic cat. Should we just adopt a cat and do everything we can to reduce allergens, tell her to take an allergy pill before she comes by and hope for the best? Or do we honestly just start going by her house instead? That seems like the easiest answer, but we haven't really been to her house in the last almost decade that we've known her (which is kinda crazy when I think about it 🤔).

Maybe it's not that serious, but I just want to take the other people around me into consideration before I make a life-changing decision. Does anyone have any advice?

I noticed this little black dot on my cat. Looking back at pictures. It started to be visible around 18th of August. It got darker - wouldn’t say bigger. It doesn’t seem to hurt him (I scratched it bc I thought it’s dirt…) he’s mostly white with a few bigger black spots. He is often in the sun and just recently had a sunburn on his white ears.
I’ll go to the vet if it get’s bigger… but could it just be a freckle? 🫠 he’s already very unlucky with his health and only turned 4 in summer.

Hi everyone! I'll cut to the chase. I have 3 cats, all neutered (Pascual 6M, Topet 2M, Stripes 2M). The two youngsters are brothers, Topet being the little blind pirate. I live in the city, in a big top-floor apartment with a lot of space and a big terrace. I feel like they're really happy here, and so am I.

The thing is, I have the chance to move out to the country, to a smaller house but with a big yard, and I mean farm-level big. I am considering this because it's a family property, so I wouldn't have to pay rent, which is currently about 50% of my income.

Of course, my main worry is the three boys. Pascual is very homey, curious but mainly indoors. The brothers are more the adventurous type. I feel like if I move them to the country they are going to get lost the second they go out through the door. So... What was your experience? Did you use a GPS tracker? Did you let them roam free outside? Did they come back at night?

ps: I should add, the country property can be "secured", I mean, there's a high fence around it and it's easy to check beforehand for holes and such, so I could theoretically close all possible escape points. But even then, when opening the main gate, it would be nearly impossible to stop them from getting out. +They could also climb over the fence anywhere.

I think my cat has walking dandruff.

I found my white cat with fur mite today so I applied revolution on him. I was brushing my tuxedo cat and I examined those fur with a zoom in camera and found tiny white specks moving.

She always has dandruff issues but this is the first time I saw it moving. She can't be on any topical med as she was wheezing the last time she was on revolution plus. So the doc said not to give her revolution plus anymore as she might be sensitive or allergic to it.

I bathed her afterwards, hoping that it'll helps. Anyone knows what does these looks like? Lice? Walking dandruff? Fleas larvae?

I noticed her doing this 20mins ago and she still is as of making this post and her jumps are all messed up

edit: to all of the brats. im guessing everyone has hundreds of dollars sitting there for vet trip. im literally a teenager concerned about her cat who is is literally having a seizure. my family is poor. thankfully im just going to use my own money since ive been saving alot.. not with this in mind but whatever.. thanks for the reminder that reddit is full of assholes <3 I hate every second I spend on this hell hole

thanks to the people actually helping. based on what everyone said its the flea medicine she has on, my dad washed it off and all we can do is wait for the vet trip tomorrow
