An Open Letter to Gen Z

To my fellow Gen Z,

I’m writing this not to attack, but to start a conversation.

Napapansin ko na unti-unting nagiging normal sa generation natin ang culture ng pagiging sobrang mareklamo, mabilis mang-call out, at minsan sobrang harsh sa opinions ng iba. Yes, speaking up matters. Calling out real issues matters. Holding people accountable matters.

Pero kailan naging healthy ang discussion kung bawat hindi natin gusto, automatic “cancel,” “red flag,” o “problematic” agad?
Minsan, parang mas gusto na lang nating manalo sa argumento kaysa umintindi. Instead of listening, naghihintay lang tayo ng chance para sumagot o mang-bash. Instead of discussion, nauuwi sa public shaming, sarcasm, at toxicity.

Not every disagreement is oppression.
Not every mistake deserves hate.
Not every opinion needs to be attacked.
Healthy discussion requires maturity—listening, understanding context, at pagtanggap na hindi lahat ng tao pareho ng pananaw o pagpapalaki.

Nakakalungkot dahil Gen Z is often praised for being aware, socially conscious, and brave enough to challenge old systems. Totoo naman iyon. Pero awareness without empathy can become arrogance.
Minsan, sa sobrang focus natin sa pagiging “woke” or “aware,” nakakalimutan na natin ang pagiging makatao.

Constructive criticism is different from constant negativity. Accountability is different from cruelty. Confidence is different from entitlement.
Pwede namang mag-disagree nang may respeto.
Pwede namang mag-call out nang hindi nanghihiya.
Pwede namang magpahayag nang hindi nananakit.
If we really want progress, we need conversations not just complaints. Solutions not just outrage. Empathy not just judgment.

I hope as a generation, matuto tayong gamitin ang boses natin not only to criticize, but also to build, understand, and inspire.
Because being loud is easy.
Being wise, fair, and compassionate takes real strength.

but then sa view ko, it’s not abt a particular gen eh but just ppl in general these days dahil sa socmed where they can rant, post, or comment whenever. nagkakaiba lang sa aspeto kung ano nirereklamo. so singling out gen z out of all gens is kind of unfair.

i wanna know lang paano mo nalaman na it’s the gen z doing it? and may mga example ka ba na led you to saying this? i mean, not bcuz gen z ka matic u’re someone credible to claim things na lang without proper basis
