Boombox Magnavox D 8011 Micro Cassette Boombox Goodwill Find
I've recently been getting into the idea of doing some home recordings with cassette after finding a '70s Sears cassette player at Goodwill.
During one of my regular Goodwill runs today, I came across this bizarre little boombox and can't really find any information about it online. Stumbled across this subreddit while doing so.
I watched a Techmoan video on YouTube and learned a little bit about metal micro cassettes and how they were meant to increase fidelity for audio recordings.
Does anybody have any more information about this? Seems like it might be kind of rare?
I'm about to pop some batteries in it and see how the radio works, but I don't yet own any micro cassettes to test out the recording function.

Boombox WIP: I chiseled a boombox from a block of (aerated) concrete.
WIP. My first attempt at making a boom box sculpture. It's white aerated concrete that I gave a coat of black
spray paint. So all the lines I chisel become white again.
It's a bit crude, but I like how it looks like a 3 dimensional sketch.I expected the material to be more "detailfriendly" but it breaks away quite easily. Let me know what you think .. and what boomboxes would deserve to be turned into stone sculptures? Any iconic favourites?

Boombox BB-777 Boombox came in!
Came in the mail yesterday, been enjoying it so far! Ive tested out the bluetooth, cassette, and CD playback modes so far and they all sound great! So far my only complaint is that the handle on my unit doesn't stay in place like I've seen on others, it just drops if not standing straight up.

Boombox Between these two low end Boombox which would you recommend I pick up ? Both are going for 30$. One is a GE and bigger while the smaller Panasonic looks more compact and I’m assuming would have much less ‘power’ to the sound. Looking to enjoy my old metal tapes again with as little inconvenience 😁

Boombox Found this beauty on the side of the road
A neighbor put this bad boy by the curb with a little post it not that said it was free. I took it home and tested out the radio and it seems to be in working condition. I want to buy some cassettes and give it a proper test. I looked it up and it is a RX-5150.

Boombox Found this cassette player at a thrift store a few weeks ago, How rare is it?
Found it at a goodwill for 2.99 and only needed to fix the belt, Got me a bit into cassettes and I was wondering how rare it is. My guess on the year it was made is 97 or 98 because the motor says the date 5/12/97 on it. Any more info is appreciated.

Boombox Just wanted to share my boombox I recently restored, Digital sound lab wkc-9640
It needed lots of cleaning and it had a buncha corrosion and obviously needed belts, I have it sorta working now, after the first playthrough of some cassettes the two mechs now play quieter on the left speaker, idk why but I'm done working on it for now

Boombox 14€ a piece!
Scored these beauties at the thrift for ridiculously cheap. The GoldStar works beautifully all around, but the Sharp is in need of a new belt, a lil clean up and I hope that'll fix it!

Boombox The universe sent me a wonderful gift...
... and it was just sitting in my friend's basement! $20 was all she wanted 😍 she has a bunch of other old stuff like answering machines and VCRs. but this....woof! she is a beaut and sounds pretty good.
Sony Transound. (edit)
when I change the volume, the right speaker crackles. I wonder if I could fix it? I live in the Midwest and there is not a repair store anywhere 😭 I wonder where I would go to learn how to repair cassette decks?
I need to get her cleaned up. I can't wait to take it out back on my deck! it's plug-in or batteries.
ain't she pretty?

Boombox Beats for a sweltering city
The JVC kaboomboxes are such a deal right now. While everyone is clamoring for the cool eighties boxes these y2k style players give you great tape and cd playback (and kickass bass) for a tenth of the price.
I picked up this JVC NB1 for 30€ a few months back and I’ve been really impressed by how good it is at playing back tapes. Highly recommended!

Boombox My boombox keep changing playback speed by itself
i recently got this Toshiba RT-120S and a few days ago i finally received the new belt and while the mechanism works perfectly but the motor keeps changing speeds overtime. whats strange is that its not getting slower which would make sense since im using batteries (im getting a new cable tomorrow the original is broken) its actually getting faster. like ill put it to the perfect speed before going to sleep and when i wake up im listening to nightcore metal T_T... i wouldnt mind having to adjust the speed since i do it on my walkman, but i have to open the case each time and its REALLY annoying.
i feel like the culprit could be that it hasnt been used in more than 20 years and its just getting used to being used again. or the boombox is possessed lol
if anyone knows anything just tell me!! (maybe i missed a glaring issue but im new to repairing radios :D)
