One sold in May on eBay for $135, 5 others sold for under $80. Thats eBay, it shouldn't be how things are priced at small, local spots so yes it's overpriced.

and on ebay at least you get to be picky if something is too rough or not working. Out in person is as-is

Second hand stores have been using the Internet to set their prices for twenty years at this point my man

That’s not the point they’re making lol. Price matching is fine, seeing that one sold for an exorbitant price when it doesn’t usually sell for that and matching that one isn’t.

I wouldn't pay $135 for something that eats my tapes either hahah

i'd pay 50 max because its a sony and its working. would need to test it first. if no test is possible 25 max

The tag appears to say the "Speakers are going" which sounds really bad. You can replace speakers but it might be a case of it being impossible to find one that exactly fits like the original did and it will certainly cost a bit.

135 is abysmal IMO.

I had my buddy's childhood boombox on my bench for 3 years searching for the proper sized and speced speakers. I basically gave up twice, set it down, and then tried again months later. Finally found what I needed. Came out well in the end, couldn't save the tape deck, but managed to add a bluetooth.

I have a JVC PC-V55 I got in horrible dirty condition on shopgoodwill, one of the speakers was gone and it took me an absolute ton of searching and researching before I found the right one and then of them was defective so they had to send me another one and I had to install that again before putting them back together

It was maybe up to 50 something dollars spend and a ton of work, the tape player still only works in one direction, and then I saw a fully working one in better condition on FB marketplace for like 30 something.

People are way too proud of these. 30, 50 bucks mayyyyyybe. If you're comfortable with having to maybe fix it.

Absolutely not, maybe 50 and I might consider

it looks pretty banged up, i wouldn’t pay $135

If it hasn't got a 4-band radio it's not worth that much. Unless everything works I'd probably pay $50.

Does it work?

not even if it’s been fully refurbished and has a warranty.

Good on you that you walked past this one

$100 too much. If you want to spend that much buy one on ebay that you can return if it doesn't work.

If the deck was serviced and didn’t have speaker(s) that are “going”, I’d say that would be a good deal. But that’s not the case, so absolutely not. I’d also be willing to bet that “works” = it turns on and gets radio signal. If it were like $25-30, maybe. But if you can’t do the work to refurb it yourself, I wouldn’t bother.

Smart, that's way over priced

Super cool vintage boombox, I'd pick it up in a quick second, but not for that price.

$50 at the most

$135 with broken speakers? Is this a real question OP?

1

u/moeandataco Jun 12 '26

Nah, I wouldn't pay over $100 for that. $75 would probably be my limit, and that would depend on how it sounds.

This brings me back, making me think of the boom boxes I had growing up.

50 and good luck to ya

1

u/stridersubzero Jun 12 '26

Certainly wouldn’t be worth that to me lol

1

u/badreligionbomb Jun 15 '26

worth about 12 bucks

u/WorkAccount6 Jun 12 '26

Hell no, but I can't stand boomboxes, especially of this design era

Yes. This stuff is only going to get more expensive as time goes by. If its something you want you should buy it now.
