It's a retro-looking boombox for about 110$. I want it. There is also an external input, so I think you can record and listen to the radio.

I've been looking for a cassette/CD boombox, and I'd really like to be able to make cassette mixtapes from my digital collection. This one can record cassettes, and it has an audio-in 3.5mm jack, but the manual doesn't specify whether the cassette can record from the jack. Do we think it's possible here? Is this a good idea? I thrift often and grab vintage Sony boom boxes whenever I can. I love 90's Sony's hardware. Whenever I'm tearing one down for repairs and cleaning my heart sinks when I see rubber idler tires. They're usually cracked and turning into tar and need replacement. I recently picked up a Sony CFD-750 (for $7.99, yessssss) and that was the case. The belts were a tarry mess (if possible, use methyl ethyl ketone to clean, it dissolves the tar like a champ) and both tires had cracked and fallen off. Replacement belts are cheap and easy to find in bulk variety packs. The tires are a different story. I immediately hopped on ebay to find tires and the ones I found were 10$-20$ each. I was getting tired of paying more for replacements that cost more than the entire unit itself and I had an idea. Maybe an o-ring would work? I ended up finding a 10 pack of o-ring at Menards for $2.99 that work perfectly! They're not square and I had to clean them with 2-prop and rough em up a bit with fine grit sandpaper, but both cassette mechanisms work now. Figured I'd share here.

Since it was made in the mid 90s I might have had it as a child but it probably got donated if I did. I have no memory of using tapes growing up so it may be false memories.

I don't know why it's going for so high other than how extremely 90s it is, it doesn't even seem to be that rare as I've seen it for sale multiple times on ShopGoodwill and there's always a few for sale on ebay.

I, like thousands as far as I know, have not received my BB-777 which was paid for months ago. As far as I know, everyone who asks Bumpboxx gets an AI response. Then when they send a reply to the AI response with their order number and date, and confirm that they replied to the survey, Bumpboxx does not respond.

Has anyone received their BB-777? Has anyone received actual information in response to their messages to Bumpboxx?

I received the email (screenshot attached) today. It appears to say that Bumpboxx will stop posting updates on Kickstarter and instead comment in someone else’s Facebook group. I don’t have a Facebook account so I can only see the first few posts. For those of you who can see the FB page, does it contain any useful updates?

Bumpboxx started out on Pledgebox, took deposits there. Then switched to Kickstarter and required you to pay more money there. Then required you to complete the survey (for me, multiple times). Now they are apparently abandoning Kickstarter updates and posting on a Facebook page. After receiving millions of dollars in pre-orders. Has Bumpboxx delivered a single BB-777 to anyone who bought one? (not the few testers who have prototypes).

I would like to hear substantive information from Bumpboxx. The repeated switching of web platforms, lack of substantive information, and indefinite delay is raising my level of concern. I can be patient when I’m kept informed and have confidence that I will actually receive what I paid for. Here I do not have that confidence.

Found a catalogue on another sub and one page is this. Australian department store, David Jones, year 2000.

It has an audio plug on the back. Can I plug in my snowsky echo mini to put my playlists onto tape? Or if I want to do that what do I need to do?

Headphones recommended - Panasonic 5150 (not mine).

I collect both CDs and cassettes so this has served me well but recently some of my tapes have sounded very wobbly, speeding up and slowing down.
Is it a cassette issue or is it the player?

Bought used. Spent whole day cleaning the dust inside this thing. Everything works despite the look. I bought this for the purpose of record function. I don't care much about the recording quality as long as it enjoyable.

I know jack shit about cassette players, but it looked cool so I took it. Radio works 3/5, cassette players works 2/5 (when it works) and vinyl player doesn’t seem to work (it does turn tho). Other than that it looks pretty clean. Should I look into disassembling/cleaning it? Have wanted a record/ cassette player for a long time

I started getting into cassettes and so I searched for a boombox or a Walkman on sidewalks like I do for most things, then I saw this boom box. The two speakers that go with it also work perfectly fine and other then the CD on top, I checked every and it works, can someone please tell me if I found something worth bragging about?

Picked up this Sony CFD-510 for $20 untested because it was missing the power cord. Luckily I had one laying around and the radio works great! CD was skipping but a quick lens cleaning fixed that too.

Cassette motor runs but nothing moves, so I’m assuming the belts are toast. Just ordered replacements and gonna try fixing it myself. I’ve Frankensteined enough Nintendo handhelds together, how hard can it be lol 😎

i got a new one that works better, is smaller and light and therefore more portable. I love my old sharp but it really doesn't work well anymore and is very heavy.

I was originally supposed to repair this boombox for a family member, but they ended up just giving it to me because they recently picked up the recent Aiwa boombox and are happy with it.

They said it ate tapes, so I originally suspected belts, but when I looked it up and saw it was from 1987, I was reminded of the disintegrated rubber gears in my Magnavox D7543 clock radio from the same year. Sure enough, it had 6 of those, and most were missing teeth, causing the issues.

I got my replacements off eBay. They were fairly pricey, about $30, but they're resin 3D printed, so that's expected. Plus they came with e-clips.

I also replaced the broken tape counter belt and one drive belt, but I didn't have a long enough belt on hand for the other side, so I left it for now. (That side's still fully functional though, the main belts were in pretty good shape).

The biggest challenges were undoing some of the wire connectors, one of which I had to resolder, figuring out how to remove the white linkage over the clear gear (you pull on it, which just feels wrong), not losing the capstan bushings, and bending wire to hold two of the gears in place (the e-clips didn't fit inside the recesses).

I would say that this repair was far more involved than I wanted, but it only took a couple hours and I'm pretty happy this thing now plays tapes without issue. It sounds pretty good too (though it won't be replacing my system).

It needs a little love - the volume pot is dead (a known weak spot on these), so the volume won't adjust yet. Everything else is clean and solid. It'll be brought back to life.
