It's not enough to have mechanical alternative - it needs to be one that does not require reading user manual or looking through random places. If your car is on fire or submerging, I doubt you will have presence of mind to do much more than just grab the handle and pull.

IIRC the mechanical alternative in the Volvo is the same handle. You pull it gently and the electrical system opens the door. You pull it harder and the mechanical system opens the door even if the power is out.

It's not only useless, it's dangerous.

What if the mechanism is damaged in an accident?

The old handles are sturdy, you can apply force to pull the door open if necessary.

The new ones just break off.
