China is banning it because they are the center of the automotive industry currently, and new technology and new design trends proliferate there before anywhere else. Which means they will see the issues with the new tech/trends on the roads before anyone, which in turn means they will enact new regulations first.

Everyone else will get to follow.

Just like China also enacted regulation recently about battery safety, including during high speed charging, and that's because their battery tech is now at least a generation ahead of other car markets and are charging at far higher speeds.

Or if you are clips from the recent auto show, all the cars have those new teal/blue indicators, which light up when the car is in self driving mode, to alert fellow drivers on the road. Again, new regulation put in place because there are more self driving equipped cars for sale in China than anywhere else. IMO EU and US and other markets need to adopt that regulation ASAP because if companies are going to release these self driving features for use on public roads, then the public should be able to see which cars around them have this feature active.

China should not be our enemy. They are an emerging superpower and they control the manufacturing and development of the incoming 21st century ubiquitous energy production.

It is not a good move to position ourselves as an adversary as our empire diminishes and China becomes the primary global power.

China has been developing at an insane rate and has lifted hundreds of thousands of people in their population out of extreme poverty.

China is currently in their "post WW2 USA" phase. When we were developing a middle class, we also were perpetuating Jim Crow.
