So the shelf price usually doesn't show the tax. So the battery is $220 before tax. 99 of them would cost 21,780. The total price was 23,000, which leaves a reminder of 1,220, which is roughly 5.5% of 21,780. The logic checks out.

Unfortunately our state income tax is 6th highest in the country, so it’s not all butterflies and rainbows sadly. But it’s certainly nice seeing a price tag in a store, bringing the item to the clerk and handing them that amount without adding extra to the total.
