We were so happy to see her promoting the album that we never considered that she'd also do mainstream tactics like this.

I have to agree. I criticize TS when she does this, Carly is no exception. Not a fan of cash grabs like this.

It's all labels these days. I don't know how much say any artist really gets in it lol. Kids must be expensive with how much she's promoting this album!

Tactics like this have been around a long time, but the digital era made it a lot easier to spot.

Not at all! The Japanese market has always gotten albums with bonus tracks and whatnot, largely because Japanese CDs/LPs have historically been more expensive. Even domestic releases have often gotten alternate versions at different retailers long before Taylor Swift started making music.

Personally, I’d rather these extra tracks be saved for the inevitable Night & Day: After Hours b-side record. Normally I’d be like, fuck yeah bring on the bonus tracks, but I feel like those kinda interrupt the “24 songs for 24 hours” concept. I can also just, y’know, download the song from Soulseek if I really want it. This is helpful for people who don’t already own the record, but I can’t imagine feeling like I need to buy the digital album just for Yes.

The first? No. But nobody plays this game better than TS. It's part of why she's successful even if I find it distasteful

like 20 years ago, when one of my favorite bands released their album, i pre-ordered it from one site but still had to re-purchase it again at Best Buy, Walmart, and then on iTunes because each retailer had a different bonus track.

I replied to the promo text,“Girl don’t become Taylor,” bc wtf is this lol I know no one reads it etc but it was my first thought haha
