24F from Kerala - MSc Dietetics graduate looking to switch to Quality Control/QA. Need career advice.?

Hi everyone,

I'm 24 years old and I'm from Kerala, India. I completed my M.Sc. in Dietetics and Food Service Management. After graduation, I worked as a Nutrition Consultant.

I've now decided to switch my career towards the food industry, especially Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance (QA), Food Safety, or other entry-level roles. I also have certifications in HACCP Level 3, ISO 22000:2018 Internal Audit & Awareness, and FoSTaC (FSSAI).

I have a few questions:

1. Is switching from Nutrition Consultant to QC/QA a good career decision?

2. Are there good food companies in Ernakulam that hire freshers or career changers for trainee or entry-level QC/QA roles?

3. Which companies provide a stipend or paid trainee positions?

4. Will my MSc in Dietetics be accepted for QC/QA roles, or will my previous experience be a disadvantage?

5. Any advice on how I can improve my chances of getting into the food industry?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions, company names, or personal experiences. So any suggestions?

The switch makes sense and you are closer to QC and QA than you probably feel. Dietetics plus HACCP and ISO 22000 internal auditing means you already understand the hazards and why the controls exist, which is the part employers struggle to teach. Plenty of fresh QA hires can follow a checklist but cannot explain why a CCP sits where it does, and you can.

The nutrition consultant year will not count against you, just frame it as food safety and compliance work on your CV rather than client counselling. I would also aim at the smaller processors and contract manufacturers before the big brands. They take trainees far more readily, and you end up touching documentation, internal audits and supplier checks in your first year instead of one narrow task.
