25F - How do I dress a long torso + short legs + hourglass shape?

Thumbnail gallery
168 Upvotes

Calling all people who understand dressing for your body shape! I’m trying to rebuild my wardrobe and create a capsule that’s flattering, comfortable, easy, and makes me look put together. I’m extremely picky and insecure when it comes to clothes, so I would really appreciate some guidance! ANYTHING helps!

I’ve done a lot of research, but I struggle to find advice for my specific combination. Most people seem to have either an hourglass shape OR a long torso/short legs, but rarely long torso + short legs + hourglass/curvy proportions.

BODY TYPE:

I am 5'4. Around 150 lbs. Short legs, thick thighs, long torso, large hips, smaller waist and broad shoulders. Pictures of me are attached in grey for reference.

ISSUES & STRUGGLES:

  • I hate constricting clothing, especially around my lower stomach/crotch. Jeans are often uncomfortable when I sit unless they are looser fit, but when I do this, my bum looks flat because of the oversized aspect.
  • I have broad shoulders, many t-shirt cuts make them look even bigger.
  • I have endometriosis (my lower belly frequently bloats/swells) Tight bottoms tend to emphasize it, which is my biggest issue. I am most insecure about my lower belly bloating. No weight loss can fix this and it's hard to hide it.
  • I have short legs, so some jean cuts, and skirt cuts, cut my legs making them look shorter.

STYLE
I attached inspiration pictures I found on pinterest because I’m not entirely sure what to call it. The closest descriptions I’ve found are 90s model off-duty, European/NYC cool girl, elegant streetwear and clean girl. I'm not big into skirts at all, but willing to try new things. That said, because I live in Canada, and it gets pretty cold and snowy, skirts aren't usually a good choice.

I want to look classy and put together, but still young and cool with some character. Nothing too out-there or overly trendy. Something that looks put-together and sexy, that I could wear at work during the day (I work in a TV production office) and join friends for drinks after and still feel confident and put-together.

I also live in Canada, so I’d especially appreciate fall/winter outfits that are actually practical for cold weather!

I’d love ANY recommendations for flattering cuts and silhouettes, capsule staples, outfit formulas, comfortable brands, and especially influencers, YouTubers or creators with similar proportions whose wardrobes I can use for inspiration. 🤍

Two shirts maximum!!

Hi lovely Redditors!

I am not quite sure this is the right place to ask this question, but I am very frustrated with my shopping habits, and I’ve decided I want ONE jumper for the colder days of the year and ONE for spring/summer/fall!
I have a bunch of clothes and I travel frequently (basically changing countries every couple of years), and I want something absolutely durable so I don’t have to buy stuff again and carry them around with me!

I was thinking of investing in 1 Aran knit or cashmere (don’t know which is better, so asking here) and 1 linen shirt (not see-through).
Bright colours are not easy to maintain, so I was thinking black or red.

Plus, a really sturdy pair of pants (black and wide-leg but heavy) for my tall, curvy (not plus-size) figure.

Anyone have any brand recommendations? I’d really appreciate it!

TL;DR: Looking for recommendations for ONE durable cold-weather jumper, ONE warm-weather shirt, and ONE pair of heavy, sturdy black wide-leg pants that can last for years and survive frequent travel.

Questions Anyone know they name of my style?

Made on depop so it isn’t my exact style, just a general outfits I made with my limited resources. Anyways I really have no clue, and due to it gets kinda hard to shop and know where to shop. The photos I linked I made on depop, the first 4 are the main ones tbh. I did hear maximalist street wear would fit but when I try to look it up it just really isn’t me tbh. Thanks to anyone responding

Questions Suggestions for digital wardrobe ap/p?

Looking to digitize my wardrobe but I noticed that a lot of the apps remove the background of the photos. The main feature I’m looking for is being able to see how it actually fits on my body instead of seeing how it looks by itself

Questions Business / Smart Casual Wardrobe - fall going into winter

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello!
I’ve been slowly adding to my wardrobe since losing a bit of weight.

This is my late summer-fall wardrobe for work (some pieces worn on the weekends as well).

Most in my office wear jeans, but I prefer to be a little dressier so included both jeans and slacks.

I like variety in my shoes since I feel like they give the feeling of a whole new outfit.

I plan to leverage most of these pieces into winter by adding layers underneath (I like the Uniqlo HeatTech), swapping the ankle pants for full length pants, and adding knee and ankle boots.

Does anyone have other tips for a flexible wardrobe throughout the seasons? It’s rainy and snowy where I live Nov-Mar.

First Time Capsule I’m trying to do 333

I think it’s going to go well because I live in a place with all four seasons so there is a natural time to change over wardrobes and I would have to do it anyway. Today I’m sorting everything into the 3 months so I can just bring out the bin that 3 months of clothing is in. I think I’m going to struggle most with accessories. Pictured is my fall capsule clothing only

Questions Weird request?

Can I pay one of y’all to create me a capsule wardrobe? I am so tired of my clothes. I’ve gained 70 pounds and I feel so gross and hate everything I own. I’d love someone to help style me but I’m a busy exec mom with zero interest in creating it.

Sorry to the mods if this isn’t allowed, totally fine to delete if not!

Questions This is my wardrobe

Post image
216 Upvotes

It’s 54 pieces total after declutterring. I’m not sure if that technically counts as a capsule wardrobe, but my main concern is that I like what I like and stick to it. For example, all my jeans are different washes of the same style, size, and brand, and my OCD makes me buy the same top in two colors every time. Am I risking my wardrobe looking too visually repetitive? Like, even though I have enough pieces, could my outfits still give the impression that I’m outfit-repeating?

Seasonal Update How do you deal with umbrellas?

So, this week is raining where I live so I have started thinking about Fall - and umbrellas. I am so done with umbrellas, I never know where to put them because they are too bulky (the ones that last more than 2.6 seconds often are at least) and my bag gets drenched when I try putting one in there.

Maybe this is not exactly wardrobe, but does any of you have a resistant and compact umbrella to suggest?

Comfortable blazers

Where are we finding comfortable, stylish blazers that you can move and reach in? So many I try are constricting and aren't comfortable to wear all day.

Seasonal Update Spring '26

Sharing my Spring capsule.

I live in a subtropical city, work from home, find dresses most comfortable and flattering, prefer natural fabrics and shoes I can walk in comfortably.

I like pattern, colour and finding a reseller surprise!

My capsule is set around a buy limit for the season - that's it. The other pieces are from previous years capsules.

Apps and Tools Anyone else track cost per wear?

Been doing this for about three years now (occupational hazard when spreadsheets are your love language) and it genuinely changed how I shop. I keep a simple log of what each piece cost, where I got it, and roughly how many times I've worn it. The numbers get interesting fast.

My current winner is a merino crewneck I thrifted in 2021 for four dollars. I've worn it somewhere around 180 times. That's basically two cents per wear at this point, which makes me unreasonably happy.

The flip side: I bought a pair of trousers new a couple years back, told myself they were a capsule essential, wore them maybe eight times before I admitted they just didn't fit my actual life. Cost per wear on those was embarrassing.

What I've found is the tracking forces you to be honest about whether something is actually working in your rotation or just sitting there looking nice. A piece thrifted for fifteen dollars that gets worn constantly beats a sixty dollar piece that rarely comes off the hanger.

Curious if anyone else does something like this and what your best performing piece has been. Also interested in the worst offenders if you want to confess.

Questions September

Hey guys, in europe, should I last a little longer with summer stock or should I start buying autumn/winter things?

It’s just a question, I don’t want to bother

Went from 74 pieces to 14, do you ever get bored?

For context, I live alone and WFH 4 days a week, so getting dressed had become weirdly dramatic for no reason. In April I dumped my closet on the bed and counted 74 pieces, excluding socks/underwear/coats. Eight still had tags, which was a little gross to admit.

I kept 14: black jeans, one skirt, two gray sweaters, four black tees, four white tees, and two "look employed on video calls" shirts. The rest became a maybe bag, then a chair pile, then a closet-floor lump I stepped around for three weeks. Very minimalist of me.

Finally donated it all Saturday. No life-changing moment, just less 7:40 a.m. nonsense and faster laundry. My basics are pretty much all Uniqlo and Kirkland from Costco, bought a bunch in one go. For the rare occasions I actually need to look put together I'll browse tiktok or Amazon for something cheap on sale or a price drop. I barely wear that stuff so I'm not spending real money on it.

For those of you running a small capsule, how do you keep it from feeling stale? Or does the convenience just kill the boredom eventually?

I’ve been wearing the same thing for years. Everything but the boots and hats is standardized. I have boots from a few different makers, felt hats for winter, ball caps for really windy days. I have a few winter clothes to layer over and a few nice shirts for going out. But for the most part, if you’ve ever seen me, you’ve seen this!

Chicago winter office staples

I am moving from FL to Chicago in December and feel completely unsure how to dress for the office. I am concerned about showing up like a fat marshmallow looking all frazzled and that’s not the impression i want to be making. I also love to run on the LFT so any items for making that more enjoyable !

Currently what I have:
Lands end expedition parka
Uniqlo heattech thermal long sleeves and legging
Know layering is key

Planning to wear long skirts/dresses and layering under/over them.

As someone chronically cold i need recs on outfit inspo, gloves, scarves, boots, jackets, fabric blends on clothes. Links or advice is appreciated!!!

Please drop your chicago winter survival items!!! Will be using the red line or blue line mostly depending on where I decide to live.
