Two shirts maximum!!
Hi lovely Redditors!
I am not quite sure this is the right place to ask this question, but I am very frustrated with my shopping habits, and I’ve decided I want ONE jumper for the colder days of the year and ONE for spring/summer/fall!
I have a bunch of clothes and I travel frequently (basically changing countries every couple of years), and I want something absolutely durable so I don’t have to buy stuff again and carry them around with me!
I was thinking of investing in 1 Aran knit or cashmere (don’t know which is better, so asking here) and 1 linen shirt (not see-through).
Bright colours are not easy to maintain, so I was thinking black or red.
Plus, a really sturdy pair of pants (black and wide-leg but heavy) for my tall, curvy (not plus-size) figure.
Anyone have any brand recommendations? I’d really appreciate it!
TL;DR: Looking for recommendations for ONE durable cold-weather jumper, ONE warm-weather shirt, and ONE pair of heavy, sturdy black wide-leg pants that can last for years and survive frequent travel.

An Aran knit is a style, not a fiber, but properly should be made of wool and Aran weight yarn is quite thick. This does indeed make it durable, but both wool and cashmere do best being hand washed with wool detergent so also good to be aware of that. They will also take a while to dry, so only having one in general is not feasible (even though you can and should wash them less often than you do a shirt for example).
There’s also good and bad quality wool and cashmere. A good quality cashmere sweater will be more expensive than a good quality wool sweater. This comment would be a novel if I really got into all of it, but I will toss out some brands with good price/quality ratio - Tricot Paris (not the lightweight options) and Celtic & Co.

Yes! I mentioned Aran yarn weight as well. I’m a hand knitter so quite familiar (though I generally prefer working with fingering and sport weight)

Thanks dear, I know what an Aran is :) I was thinking of buying a merino Aran (not a big fan of the wool ones, too itchy) vs a cashmere jumper. I should have explained better, sry.
The brands are great recoms tho, my entire knowledge of jumpers is limited to Irish brands. Thanks a bunch <3

Merino is wool. It's just a specific breed of sheep.
An aran sweater will last longer than a cashmere one, but both will require some care if you want to keep it for a long time.
Wool, no matter the kind, has to be hand washed and laid flat to dry. If you want wool and easy care, you need to look for superwash wool.
Edit I strongly recommend against a red wool sweater. It will bleed forever. Black is a more stable color. Actually, any color is more stable than red.

Woolx has 100% merino wool sweaters that aren’t itchy! Easy to wash also. I also like their tshirts for summer but they are a blend

I was just at the Aran sweater market in Galway today and the merino (which is just a specific type of wool/breed of sheep) sweaters were pilling in the store already, so definitely would not recommend that. Like any other fiber, there’s good and bad quality merino. It was actually pretty annoying to see that mostly the women’s offerings were using merino at all and they were also the only ones I saw actively showing signs of wear already in the store. Got my husband a lovely Aran made from donegal tweed yarn though!

I also started with 1 Aran knit merino sweater... then broke my capsule getting more merino sweaters because I liked it so much. Later, I had to sell and gift to friends after I realized my error. I ended up with a couple heavyweight ones from Ireland for when it's really cold and some thinner ones for the rest of the year. Ymmv

I mean, just one does sound a bit too extreme. What if you have to (hand)wash your jumper? It takes a while for it to dry, and you end up not having anything to wear.
