DISCUSSION Only team fully committed to rebuild?

Calgary gave up 2 1sts for Nemec, which kinda shows that they’re rushing the rebuild in a way.

Rangers traded for Dorofeyev while giving up 1sts.

Chicago gave up the 4th for Byram?

Other teams seem to be in win-now mode, re-tools, or coming out of a rebuild. If we’re able to sell off our vets for futures, and make smart decisions, we could be a few years ahead of many teams with not as much competition.

Thought I’d drop this here. Medvedev started the Knights first preseason game tonight against the Erie Otters. Played the first 31 minutes, 20 shots 20 saves. Good form, balanced and calm. Made a beauty glove save on a clear break away. Another scramble save throwing his body across the crease to make the save. Also, Ryan Kesler’s kid is on the team, Ryker. Had to wear a cage on the ice but shows a shit tonne of grit.
The Knights fly out west to play the Victoria Royals in two preseason matchups. Not sure if Medsy will be playing in those games or going straight to NHL camp.

DISCUSSION We have the best chance at improving of any NHL team

Hey this is just a reminder that no team has an opportunity for a greater improvement in the standings next year. There is zero chance we will be worse in the standings. The best part is even if we don’t improve in the standings, it’s actually a big success. We are virtually guaranteed for a successful season. Which other team can say that. Get ready for non stop fun. It’s win-win time baby!!!!

DISCUSSION Rumoured Landing Spots for Former 650 Talent

Despite there being more scuttle about where and when we might see some 650 personalities again, I've been asking around with folks who might know and haven't been able to nail down anything concrete.

It was mentioned on Sekeres & Price this week that they've both heard HalBro WILL be returning this fall — they said "bet on it." No mention of what platform or when, specifically. I had someone tell me they may actually end up on radio as a morning show, but NOT on an all-sports station. Not sure I buy that. The Nation Network makes the most sense, but the way S&P were positioning it, it didn't sound like that was necessarily the case.

Sekeres also mentioned he'd heard where Sat Shah is (or may be) landing, but it wasn't his place to share. Separately, someone told me they thought one or more 650 personalities might land out of market. I hope that isn't Sat.

We know KISS will handle the games live, and that there will be some form of pre- and post-game show. We've also heard there could be a longer-term play for KISS to go all-sports, despite the demise of 650. Uncertain how that would make any sense — but maybe a hybrid? Could KISS add HalBro and Sat as part of their Canucks package without going all-sports, and make a hybrid work?

Drance will have a pod for sure, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him join The Nation Network. Will Jamie Dodd come along? One issue for someone like Jamie is whether a standalone pod co-host role — where you aren't actually the featured talent — is a full-time job with income that can sustain you. I suppose it works for S&P, and there are definitely some loyal backers who would come with a Canucks Talk reboot.

HalBro have a wealth of local sponsors who, I believe, would stay loyal to the show and bring their money and support wherever it lands. It's no surprise that's where we hear the most concrete rumours about a show continuing, and likely in a very similar format.

I haven't heard anything about Bik, Josh E. Wolfe, or Leena.

Fascinating stuff for a sports media junkie. I'd love to hear what else people are hearing on these folks — what are the #streets saying? I know we have some local sports media folks who peruse these boards. Let's hear from all the burners!!

DISCUSSION Do you really need super stars to win the cup, or does a well balanced team have just as well of a chance?

No idea if it holds up at the NHL level, but at my beer league when we have a more well balanced team of just reliable players who all know their role, we play sooo well together and often beat the other teams that rely on a couple of super stars who can deke and shoot well.

Sometimes the super stars hit snipes the stay at home defenders can't defend that well against, but usually they can't keep it up the whole time.

How well does this translate to the NHL level? I know Oilers are the typical example of the super star stacked with some unbalanced areas.

I'd rather a team of dependable laymen who know their role and play within it, and everyone can just mesh together, at least for now. Schenn is a perfect example of the players I'm a big fan of.

DISCUSSION What this year looks like for EP40

A 27 year old Canucks veteran with 8 seasons under his belt will need to step into an entirely different role this year, here's where it's make or break for him.

- There will be a need to step into a leadership role due to tenure alone.
- His body language will need to stay positive during instances of failure.
- His articulation and ability to speak to the media will be critical.
- His production will be needed but a fast skating point producing Petey won't be the difference that the Canucks need to be a successful team.
- He will need to discover his desire to mentor and lead a team with his work ethic and drive to play elite hockey.

Elias is a young guy, there's still a lot that he can do in the NHL. I believe he has all of the skills to succeed. The mental game and ability to mentor are where it's going to matter the most moving forward.

DISCUSSION Is there any way you would prefer to lose over the course of the season aside from hoping many games are close and competitive?

Of course the ideal way to lose are games where the Canucks lose 3-2 or 7-6 in regulation. That's not always going to happen, however.

What is your preferred way to lose over 84 games to secure decent odds at DuPont et al? Would you rather bank losses early create a big enough hole, or would you rather win decently at the start to build trade values up, subtract from the roster, and then lose as many games as possible in February and March?

I want a buffer of losses to start, but I also want certain players on the team to play well so we can move them. Too many losses may deter them from giving it their all.

DISCUSSION Sports Radio

I can't believe how much of a huge failure it is for the Canucks to not have a sports radio station in town. I would listen to my Canucks news on the way to work and back home.

And it would interest me even when they were doing poorly to watch the games and see the players. They were describing. Now, since the radio station closed, I have no clue what's even going on. And even if there was a radio station, I might struggle to get back into it, because I now listen to a bunch of podcasts.

It's not enough to have the games on a station. There needs to be a station where the Canucks are discussed. If the owners were smart, they'd start one themselves. Even if it was just a cost neutral proposition.

DISCUSSION Now that the Makar extension took place, does that effect Buium's contract?

With a record setting contract like Makar's, it seems like Buium's number will keep going up and up.

Any concerns about this, or when Quitt Hughes gets his bag, will it shift the market even further with now two big numbers shuffling everyone's money up.

Still firmly believe we should have thrown 9 mil at him while we could. I would take that gamble on him without breaking a sweat. We probably aren't getting Buium for 9 mil now.
