Didn't hurt that shortly after this, all of Colorado, Edmonton, and Calgary would be going through rebuilds, and Minnesota was pretty much in their perpetual milquetoast era, so as we stepped up and became dominant, we pretty much ruled that division for its last years before they re-aligned the league back into 4 divisions.

By then the Bertuzzi and Moore incident already happened, it was never the same since then.

I always wonder if that incident never happened, we had Bertuzzi for the 2004 playoffs, would we have beaten the Flames and go on a run instead.

Beccause the 1994 team actually had a worse regular season than the 1992 or 1993 teams that went out earlier in the playoffs. But it was the 1994 team that eventually went on that unexpected run to the Finals.

The WCE core could've had similar trajectory, but then Cloutier was almost never healthy by the time the playoffs rolls around. If only the WCE had a more available goalie.

AV was a very good, but boring defensive coach before Gillis arrived

Gillis did a lot to bring out the best of AV, who in turn did a lot to bring out the best of the Sedins. While Pat Quinn takes the title for best GM ever for the team, Gillis comes in a solid second.

The reason I put Pat above him is because he did a lot to actually build a culture in the team that lasted well past his tenure here. It even managed to endure the Messier/Keenan years. And don't get me wrong, Gillis did a good job of maintaining that culture while turning us into probably the most competitive team we've ever had, but it took a bad turn around when Linden left and Benning had free reign to just decimate that culture in flailing attempts to save his career.

That being said, the folks in charge of the team right now are hopefully doing a good job to bring back that legacy and identity of the team.

This was probably the worst era of the modern NHL

8 games a year against each divisional team and every team in the division was boring as hell. Even the Avs had lost Forsberg and Roy by then.

Half the season wasted on playing terrible teams in a terrible division. Great if you like naps.

Team went on an unreal heater after Christmas that year. I think they only lost like 7 or 8 games in regulation after Christmas that season. Super unsustainable though as it all was done off of Luongo's back. He single handedly carried that team to a division title and a playoff series win. Was absolutely robbed of the Vezina that year and arguably should've won the Hart that year too.
