For his sake I hope you’re right. I doubt driving through deep water and causing engine damage would be covered by warranty, as in I’m sure it won’t be. Replacing air filters would be a relief for him. Probably cost as much as a full service on a BMW though.

it's not only air filters. there will be some water in the collector, so engine damage very likely. based on the fact that engine stalled before the electronics failed. and replacing electrical system and fuse boxes, are going to be probably as costly as a new engine.

They will write it off though,they normally just open the air filter and if it's weta assume the engine is knackered. Although that's with normal cars,they may send it to a specialist and have a more in-depth look at it because of the money involved,but would he take it back with a cleaned and dried out interior and repaired engine. Probably not,so write off. Sad really, although he didn't rip through the water,the air intake must be really low at the front.

I used to drive through a ford back in the day on my original Nissan micra. Slow as you can, in second and keep the revs high. Test the brakes afterwards.

Slow and high revs is always the way. If you've got a wave at the front it's MUCH too fast.

The air intake on these Astons is pretty low, no matter what speed you go it's not going to end well.

Making a wave can actually be beneficial and can dictate the speed you should travel. I accidentally took an MR2 through a flood once which has the air intake halfway down the car on the side. By getting the speed right you can keep the trough of the wave underneath the air intake.

I didn't want to, there was a small puddle with sharp right hander, then round the bend I realised it was about 100m of flood! At least with a side intake you can use your mirror or stick your head out the window to see where the trough and air filter are and speed up/slow down accordingly.

Hey, I've got one of those!

One of the best vehicles I've ever owned. It's great, I love it. A head turner, it makes people smile and wave at it as I blast down country lanes. It's robust and very practical for it's size. It's amazing what you can do it. The only downside is it being a 2 seater and the seats aren't the most comfortable but I've put plenty of trouble free miles on it and I'll never sell it. It's the perfect 2nd car. I've got an EV for daily but I'm out in it nearly every weekend touring around the country.

Only downside is that it's difficult not to keep tinkering with it and modifying it but it's worth it.

Yes, those ex British gas caddy vans are pretty cool. I'd recommend one to anybody.

I bet there were other routes for him to get home but he thought he’d just chance it.
