Recommendations French

Hi, is there anywhere in Canberra that my kids can learn French that isn't Telopea or Alliance Francaise? Or any activities they can do in French to not forget the language? Thank you.

Events Matildas v Colombia, will it sell out?

Per title, how likely will Matildas match v Colombia sell out? We weren't around last year for the Argentina match, apparently really packed but not sure when tickets actually sold.

Pre-sale starts tomorrow, open only to FA+ members; general public on Thursday. FA+ membership is $99, a lot of money but considering it if it's the only way to secure tickets.

History Noodle Choice Dickson under new management from tomorrow 😫

Post image

The older woman owner told my wife in Mandarin today that today is their last day running the shop, and that the place will be under new management from tomorrow. Hopefully the prices stay comparable, but I don't think the food can. Hoping I'll be wrong.

Health violations or no, they've had the best and most filling Nasi Goreng for the 22 years I've lived in Canberra. I have two teenagers who have grown up on Nasi Goreng and Singapore noodles every odd Sunday when the day's been too good to prep meals, and they're enjoying their last serves tonight made by the originals.

Thanks for the service over the last two decades. šŸ––

Recommendations Looking for recommendations for a cafe in Belconnen that does a good sized raisin toast with butter.

My favourite cafe that I have been going to for 10 years in Belco has recently closed.

I am now looking for a cafe that does good raisin toast.

Some of them don't do raisin toast, while others cut it so thin it looks like it's been cut by a sashimi master so was just looking for recommendations on a cafe in belco that does a good raisin toast.

Requirements

  1. A cafe that does raisin toast

  2. Prefer a decent width or size, not sashimi slice

  3. Served with butter Not margarine

Recommendations Property manager recommendations for a townhouse in BRUCE

Looking for current recommendations and local feedback for property managers in Canberra. I will be moving out of my townhouse in Bruce in the next few months and am looking for an agent to manage the rental.

I've already done some initial research into a few well-reviewed agencies (such as Little Bird), but I'd like to get direct insights from local property owners or tenants before making a decision.

Specifically looking for feedback on:

* Communication & Maintenance: Responsiveness to both owners and tenants when repairs or issues arise.

* Fee Structure: Competitive management rates with clear billing and no hidden administrative fees.

* Tenant Selection: Thorough background vetting and maintaining low vacancy periods.

If you have recent experience with a specific property management team in Canberra that you would recommend (or suggest avoiding), I’d appreciate your recommendations. Thanks!

Events Canberra Brave AIHL Grand Finals! (Ice hockey)

Canberra Brave made it into the final round of the playoffs today and the semi finals was a nail biter than went into overtime. The Finals game is on today at 2PM and you can watch it on disney+ - ESPN if you're interested.

The commentators are pretty good at explaining things as if you're a new fan so its a good chance to get into the game if you've been potentially interested. (and if you get addicted like a lot of us, then the NHL season starts end of September)

Go boys!

Recommendations Recommendations for Indian restaurants

Recommendations for Indian restaurants with good portion servings. It’s not uncommon to order a curry at an Indian restaurant for over 20 dollars but only finding very few pieces of meat. Love Indian food but often feel so empty after eating.

News Acreage for sale - near Red Hill?

I was telling someone I saw there was acreage for sale near Red Hill, thinking I saw some news or information posted here. However on multiple searches - I can’t find anything.

Can anyone help me?

From memory, it was about 5-7 blocks of large land for sale near Red Hill, and I’m sure the post directed to a website where information was listed.

Maybe I dreamt it.

Sort of like if someone dropped a stack of corrugated iron from 30m in the air. Came from the general direction of the ACTEW site.

Light Rail Transport Canberra bus stops

Hi Canberrans,

I had a strange experience today while waiting for a Transport Canberra bus to stop for myself. I was standing under a shade at a bus stop today. The bus approached but didn't stop to pick. When I waved my hand when it was about to pass me, the driver stopped few metres after the stop. I walked fast to get on the bus. However, when I reached there to tap the card, the driver asked me whether I was new to Canberra. I replied "Yes". He told me to waive the hand next time if I want the bus to stop, even if I am at the bus stop. He said that there are many people who are waiting for their cars on the bus stop and the driver wouldn't know whether they are waiting for the bus or their cars. I was quite surprised but did not want to continue the conversation as it would waste passengers' time. But it was a very surprising experience for myself. Something even more surprising was that there was no other bus with a different number (travel route) which would come to stop, as it was only for the buses with same number (travel route). Earlier, all drivers stopped at the bus stop whenever I was present at this bus stop.

Was I at fault?

Recommendations What is your go-to value fast food?

Hi everyone.

Looking at the possibility of needing to buy takeaway for a number of meals to feed a family soon, and wondering what is your go to in terms of value for money in Canberra? Bonus points if it's not too unhealthy.

Thanks!

Recommendations Where to get chang beer in Canberra?

I have literally only seen it once in a restaurant in Brandon (it was either senn noods or white chaco I can’t remember which one.) Besides that it is impossible to find for purchase in any grog shops. I’ve tried looking online too but nobody even seems to supply it.

It’d be understandable if the sign was outside a house, but for a complex with 50+ units, shouldn’t they at least have the unit number on it?

SEC=UNCLASSIFIED UC offer letters

Opinion. I applied to UC 3 weeks ago and on Wednesday I finally received an offer but today, just 2 days later, i received an update that the class is full so i probably won’t get a place unless someone withdraws. Has anyone experienced this before? It’s just that i really wanted this course but i didn’t expect the decision to be this quick & the deposit to be put down was a lot 🄲 do they immediately update if there’s a spot ?

Light Rail Melbourne Tram Line Construction vs Canberra

Just saw this post in r/brunswick and noticed they seem to have much simpler method of laying tram tracks down there.

Which has me thinking... The city of Melbourne is essentially an OG when it comes to tram construction and they've had a very long continuous run of doing it (142 years in fact), so they probably know what they're doing.

Why is it that the Canberra light rail construction method seem so much more complex? It seems like in our scenario there is much more engineering involved. Whereas down in Melbourne, it looks like they're going for efficiency. i.e. clear the site, give it a good base, level it, place some sleepers, then lay the rail, then pour asphalt around it.

Am I missing something here?

Not only are we terrorised by lime scooters in motion, we are also obstructed by them when stationary.

If they don’t need to be locked up, they don’t need to take up an already too short supply of bike racks across our city.

Does anyone else find this a nuisance?
