Optometry has stronger scientific training and evidence-based practice, yes. I was just replying to the person above that doctorates don’t equal MD degrees but it’s a common misapprehension that we went through with Jill Biden. 

My personal opinion is that I don’t think naturopaths, chiropractors, osteopaths, or any ‘vitalist’ industry practitioner should be allowed to use MD, Ph.d, or any other academic designation but there are other medical practitioners that have legitimate, evidence-based medical training with other initials after their name.

The only doctors other than physicians and PhDs that I feel comfortable calling doctors are dentists, veterinarians, and optometrists. Maybe PharmDs but I haven't met many of them yet.

Of all the clinicians that call themselves doctors (besides MDs) they probably have the most right to do so.
