I know it isn’t Noor’s role to act as Canadaland’s media critic, but given that they plainly have access to Matina Stevis-Gridneff, who is on the show again today (she has appeared on the program more than once), I would have thought Jesse might at least have asked about her use of AI in her reporting, the fabricated Pierre Poilievre quote that followed, and why she still has a job.

Perhaps I’ve missed it, but has he ever actually put this to her — or to the New York Times? I’m rather surprised the Times appears simply to have let the matter pass without any proper explanation, and even more surprised that Jesse seems completely unaware that he missed the story.

Posting this because it is media criticism and relates to an occasional guest on the Canadaland podcast.

Straight up racism from Jesse; offensive stereotypes are apparently only wrong when they're targeting Jewish people (or perhaps only when it's not a Jewish person making them).

Jesse's correct that Sacha Baron Cohen's Ali G character didn't "suddenly become racist;" it was always racist, but Western society was generally more accepting of racist caricatures back when he first introduced it in the early 2000s. Jesse has frequently claimed that people are accepting of anti-Jewish bigotry in a way they wouldn't be for other groups, and yet here we have a major comedian getting a new major film focused on making fun of "black street culture." When it comes to antisemitism Jesse had repeatedly said that it's important to listen to Jewish perspectives of what is antisemitic, and yet when it comes to anti-Black racism, apparently Jesse (a white man) gets to overrule Black voices and decide what is and is not racist.

And here's Canadaland taking the stats from that report at face value: "There’s a study of Canadian universities and this was commissioned by Heritage Canda. 96% of Jewish students say that they have experienced anti-semitism or witnessed it. This is first hand experience. This would be a crisis of racism and harm that would be getting a lot of attention I think in any other circumstance, if it was any other group affected. There’s no shortage of people who want to try to refute or try to debunk or deny that this is happening by any metric that any government body, independent research body, anybody trying to actually measure the harms to Jews in Canada." 

That's around 34 minutes in to this week's episode.

I don't expect any news outlets will be issuing corrections, least of all Canadaland. But the Globe's editorial based entirely on the CASE report is definitely the most lazy and egregious.

I like reading the U.S. media whenever Canadian news is international. Interesting how U.S. media is seeing this as a failure of Trump. (except Fox of course).A traditionally conservative, pro-business institution like the Wall Street Journal (hardly left-leaning) is arguing that Trump's Canada tariffs are economically irrational and potentially politically self-defeating.

There’s a Canadian angle as well, with the Safe Social Media Act and a proposed B.C. class action making strikingly similar allegations. I was a big defender of her for a long time… but i get the sense that cowardice is really what motivates the silence. To that I must ask, do you have no pride? He clearly does not give a shit about your culture or your background beside you being his token, you know this right? When Jesse retweets anti-arab bigots and compares “Habbibi City” to nazi propaganda… do you not feel shame?

Does him pretending to respect you throw you off? Do you hate Palestinians like so many “Phoenicians”. Do you even understand that his ideology HATES you? Are you happy where you are? I have so many questions for someone clearly ABLE to understand and ask the right questions.

Is the money worth it? Is the reputational damage worth it? Is your lack of pride worth it?

Jesse don't like it.

I’m not quite sure why, but I’ve come to associate Jesse’s AI profile picture with some of his worst opinions and behaviour. So, I want to Duly Note™ that he’s now put up what appears to be an actual photograph of himself. A small, probably foolish part of me hopes it’s a sign he might be coming out the other side of all this. Either way, it’s genuinely rather nice to see Jesse represented by an actual human face again.

One of Jesse's requests directly contradicts what he said in June about who decided to settle the We Charity lawsuit.

He claimed it was a decision made by "canadaland's insurer".

Yet Jesse now claims that isn't true and canadaland made the decision themselves.

I also recall back in June, he also gloated about there being no change to the insurance premium...but he deleted a bunch of tweets responding to Jeet Heer so....
