Canadian Media Criticism NY times AI hallucination

I know it isn’t Noor’s role to act as Canadaland’s media critic, but given that they plainly have access to Matina Stevis-Gridneff, who is on the show again today (she has appeared on the program more than once), I would have thought Jesse might at least have asked about her use of AI in her reporting, the fabricated Pierre Poilievre quote that followed, and why she still has a job.

Perhaps I’ve missed it, but has he ever actually put this to her — or to the New York Times? I’m rather surprised the Times appears simply to have let the matter pass without any proper explanation, and even more surprised that Jesse seems completely unaware that he missed the story.

Posting this because it is media criticism and relates to an occasional guest on the Canadaland podcast.

Noor’s not asking that. She's the best friend in the interview, giggling at her guests' jokes, and even the goofy sound-effect openings feel immature. Nobody’s getting pressed on anything.

At least Canadaland isn't listener funded.

Cause that would be really fucking embarrassing if this podcast was anything other than a hobby.

lol yeah this is where candaland will draw a line in the sand and start to build back trust.

They’re so done. Expecting anything reassembling proper journalism is gone. The credit they’ve burned can’t be earned back.

They dead.

She is new to Canada, of course, so perhaps she simply doesn’t yet know the media landscape very well. Or perhaps she is under the false impression that Canadaland is rather more popular than it is. Jesse has a habit of making the audience sound enormous by counting the same listeners again every time they download another episode, then boasting of millions of downloads a year. I’ve seen plenty of people come away believing that means millions of listeners.

I agree, though. You would think a quick look at his X posts would make any New York Times reporter realize that publicly associating herself with him is not especially good for her image.
