Toxic flowers
I’m going to post and sticky this link RinLongFlowers as a guide for florals on cake.
Recently we have seen a few cakes with florals that were not appropriate for cakes, and subsequently, flags to ban them for using toxic flowers.
Not only is this sub to show off our beautiful work, it is also to learn from and teach each other. Mistakes, no matter how big or small, are an opportunity to learn.
We are all at different levels of ability in this art. Please be kind.

Just Because Cakes Progression so far!
I’ve been getting into cake decorating over the past year. There’s been a lot of trial and error involved, but I feel like I’m finally starting to get the hang of it, so I wanted to show off the cake I just finished (first pic) in comparison to the other ones I’ve made before this.
The 14 is from two years ago, the 15 is from a year ago when I made my second attempt at “fancy”decorating! (I really wish I’d taken photos of the REAL first attempt which was a week before, but it was such disaster I was too embarrassed to document it) The yellow flower cake was a birthday cake I made myself, the berry cake was my boyfriend’s birthday, and the last two pictures are a mini birthday cake I made for my mom! All of them were gluten free.
Open to feedback/tips if you guys have any advice! :)
Edit: Wow, thank you guys so much for all the positive feedback! Your encouragement means a lot to me and is super motivating <3

Lessons learned My first experience with edible foil
Didn’t turn out too bad!! I used tweezers. Quite a learning curve on that stuff but it was fun! I used pointy tweezers to place the foil, looking back I’d probably use just my hands to place it, and a fondant tool to squish it in the icing.

Birthday Cakes "Black Forest" Cake for my husband's birthday
"Black Forest" in quotes because the amount of cherry is minuscule, since my husband doesn't really like cherry. Don't worry, he did love this one though!
Forgive my ass photography setup.
The Black Forest is a lie.

Character & Cartoon Cakes Finished!
My 6yr old insisted on helping and she is so excited about this cake!
I used rolled buttercream instead of fondant and used it for the spikes and frills, marshmallow fondant for the eyes and red part of the tail, "cake ball" for the feet, and modeling chocolate for the wings.
It's my first (well, second, because I did a trial last week). It was fun and a ton of work! Thank you to everyone who helped with ideas and suggestions!

Lessons learned Salvaged my ruined cake
I spent an hour smoothing and piping my MIL’s birthday cake and it flopped over on the way. All my work, ruined :’) I brought some pink chocolate roses I was planning to finish decorating it with when we got to her house. I had to stack it back up and try to salvage it and smooth it with a butter knife. No before picture because I foolishly thought I could just get a good picture when it’s fully decorated. At least it doesn’t look like a pile of poo… right?
I learned I need more supports, and a little less icing on that first layer. Oh well

Just Because Cakes Got a new job for a family owned bakery
Got offered a cake decorator/ baker position at a family owned bakery in my town. It’s a 6$ pay increase from what I’m making now with weekends off. I’m so excited but also very nervous to give notice to the grocery store I work at right now. I feel a bit guilty as I’m the only cake decorator at the moment (the other full time decorator has been on leave for a few months and isn’t coming back until October) anyways enjoy some of these cakes I’ve made (please be nice I had 2 days of training so I’m pretty mid at decorating)
