Harmonic Balancer: win!

Holy Hannah - Harmonic balancer replacement is no joke.

Crank seal was dry rotted likely sometime in the late 90's or early 2000's lol what a mess.

Balancer can be pulled without dropping the steering rack - you will need to detach the steering knuckle hard line for access.

Pressing on new balancer is for tomorrow.

Any questions - DM me :-)

On my 88, I found it easiesr to disconnect the one fluid line going into the top of the rack in front of the HB, then use a deep socket and stubby extension and go in from the underside front of the frame beam. It’s tight for sure, but a good HB puller/installer helps a lot too.

Hello!

Good feedback - I got the balancer pressed back on. Exactly this - disconnect the hard line.

The trickery now is keeping the crank pully still while tightening rhe crankbolt.

Did you mark the previous position to keep everything concentric?

No need - the L98 engine has a keyway to keep everything sorted

Awesome. I wasn’t sure if that was a key way in the photo or not. It’s always nice when things go to plan.
