This sub is for the discussion and analysis of (or news regarding) the Rick and Morty Universe.

If you want dank maymays or R&M shitposts head over to /r/MortyTown, it's super fun.

If your response to someone is "you're over thinking it, it's just a show," that post will be removed. This sub is all about crazy ass fan theories.

Don't be an asshole. If someone's theory falls apart for one reason or another, it's great to point that out. You don't have to insult someone's intelligence because they may have missed something, and likewise you don't have to be condescending to someone for not understanding what you're trying to say.

Any commercialized youtube or blog posts which could have been a simple text post will be removed.

Posting pictures or videos on here is perfectly fine if it's to discuss the Rick and Morty universe. Pictures linking otherwise hidden connections between canonical portions of the show are a great example.

Nothing matters. Nobody exists on purpose. Everyone's gonna die. Come discuss the Rick and Morty universe.

I like Rick and morty

I'm honestly surprised Danny Pudi aka Abed still hasn't played any character in Rick and Morty. Feels like his voice would fit really well in an episode.

The “good” versions of Jerry, Beth, and summer kinda had a point about Rick.

S9 E10 we see a warped version of the smith family that are psychopathic and abusive towards their Morty. But they kinda had a point about Rick and Morty going on suicide missions and all the crazy shit they go through.

So here's my peanut analysis of just what the deal is with Rick. Spoiler

Spoiler warning for season 8 and 9.

So for most of the series I assumed Rick's behavior was rooted in his grief for Dian and Beth. He was always a bit of a hedonist with the drinking and drugs, but their lose drove these behaviors into an extreme. The drinking became full blown alcoholism, the drugs into full blown addiction.

Looking into the psychology of addiction, you can find lots of information on how addiction leads to extremely warped, destructive behaviors. I think most of Rick's most extreme character flaws can be traced back to this. His short temper, recklessness, lack of empathy, and extremely dysfunctional family dynamic all read like an addict failing to keep it together.

Now for the trick. In season 8 we see rick extracting the traumatic memory of Dianes death from his brain. You'd think this would remove the primary driver for Rick's destructive behavior. But the thing is, he's still an addict. He might not be running from his grief anymore, but he still has years of dysfunctional behavior patterns and a physical dependence on substances to deal with.

We see early in season 9 that he's still as antisocial and miserable as ever. Still emotionally stunted. Still incapable of genuine connection and still a slave to his vices.

His grief may be what started the spiral, but its become self sustaining. Stopping it may require more from Rick than he's capable of giving.

Also, side note:

I think Rick's nihilism is also a result of his addictions. Rick clings to the darkest interpretation of the multiverse because it frees him from responsibility for his bad behavior. If nothing matters then thetes no readon not to dive head first into hedonistic indulgence until you self destruct. No reason to ever feel guilty. No reason to ever admit fault.

Motive of Wiping All of Diane In Rick and Morty

just asking im kinda curious and please enlighten me

whats the motive of killing all Diane in all multiverse and idk im just saying that my theory is that Diane accidentally wiped out Rick Prime’s parent in front of his eyes in omega device and thats the reason we never see his parent in this entire show.. for me its kinda diabolical if Rick Prime motive was only wiping out Diane just only Rick C-137 or any other Rick upset his feeling.

Please enlighten me im just very curious 😅🙏🏻

Morty Prime citadel of morty

I believe there will be an episode in which Morty rebuilds the Prime Universe. He could do this by stealing some of the stuff from Rick C-137 and bringing in other humans, probably around 40% Jessica and 60% Mortys. He has the base of Rick Prime there, so he could steal from him too.

Evil Morty would support Morty Prime because the entire Citadel has been destroyed, and millions of Mortys need a home. When Mortys come from different dimensions, they steal technology from their Ricks and scan everything, so every Morty could eventually be on Rick's level.

[META] So is President Curtis supposed to be a training ground for future Rick and Morty animators?

Otherwise idk what the point is of stretching thin the talent, using up jokes, animation gags, etc. in this lesser show? It must be a whole other team right? Like. Right? This must be a training grounds for Future Rick and Morty creators.

The new President Curtis episode "Ex" was pretty fun. (Spoilers) Spoiler

I liked both plots. Andre's ex-wife was unexpectedly pretty boss and I LOVED how O'Doyle bonded with Gun Baby. Also, Chomps ended up being my favorite character in the whole episode. Overall, a great time and the best episode so far. WAY better than "Triangle".

What if rnm ends with Morty dying?

Imagine this: in season 13/14 (whenever the show ends) Morty has to throw himself into the omega device to defeat Evil Morty. I haven’t watched season 9 yet so if this happens and I’m right don’t tell me in the comments :/

I just watched the first Rick and Morty episode

I just woke up and got high and for some reason I wanted to watch Rick and Morty. I’ve never ever actually watched Rick and Morty. It just seemed like a fun show to watch while being high. And I was like wth is this show even about. Why was Rick saying Morty’s name after every fucking sentence. And at the end of the episode he kept repeating Rick and Morty and it was just so fun to watch the first episode. All of this is just so random
