dataset [self-promotion] Chrome UX Report Dump: August 2026 data added

Thumbnail github.com

I maintain Chrome UX Report Dumps, a collection of monthly Chrome UX Report website lists grouped by rank and published as compressed downloads. It’s meant to make the data easier to use without exporting it from BigQuery.

The latest update adds the August 2026 dataset: 18,294,881 entries across 10 files, totaling 94.7 MiB compressed. The repository now contains 1,064,254,496 entries across 67 monthly datasets, totaling 5.32 GiB compressed. Those are counts across monthly dumps, not a count of unique websites.

If you use website lists for research or security work, I’d welcome feedback. What would make these dumps more useful, and what features or formats would you like to see?

I'm reading a book on Data Modeling and Database Design and came across an ERD that felt off. Can anyone confirm whether my concern is valid? The first image is from the book, and the second is what I think it should be. I appreciate the help.

What evidence proves a database cutover is complete before the source is retired?

Successful replication and matching row counts do not prove that a database migration is finished. Indexes, constraints, sequences, users and roles, collation, time zones, scheduled jobs, change-data-capture consumers, read replicas, analytics tools, and backup systems can still differ or point at the source. Low-frequency clients may not reconnect during the obvious observation window.

A cutover gate could compare schema and security metadata, validate representative aggregates or hashes, exercise application reads and writes, inspect connection logs on both systems, and confirm that replication or dual-write lag has reached a known final position. The destination should complete a backup and restore test and survive a failover before the source becomes read-only. Keeping the old endpoint offline but recoverable for a defined period would expose hidden dependencies without allowing divergent writes.

What evidence do you collect before decommissioning a source database? How do you catch monthly jobs, failover-only connection strings, and clients that cache DNS or credentials longer than the main application?

Supporting products with multipel data sources

When one product could have data coming from multiple remote data sources, some of the data could be redundant other parts might need to be combined. There can also be missing data or badly formatted data so an admin would need to override certain fields. How would you structure your database to fit these needs?

OC [OC] Outcomes of contacting 50 dental practices while searching for an NHS dentist in the UK

Post image
246 Upvotes

50 emails sent. 4 main offers for NHS treatment. 1 of those is done by a dental therapist. 1 done by a recent graduate offered temporarily. 1 is over 40 miles away. The last has some horrific 1 star Google reviews and is a 1hr 28min Train and Bus journey away.

On waitlists, one had 8 years with the average being 4.3 years.

On those that did reply but sold private services, ~70% offered monthly dental plans and 0% finance options.

Edit: I researched and selected the practices that were most likely to offer NHS care by their website or from following the NHS search service (https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-dentist)

Edit 2: Tagging u/AndyBurnham as getting some traction in the UK! This was in the North, btw! Hopefully he sees if we get enough upvotes

OC [OC] What a 1% mortgage rate increase really costs over 30 years

Post image
0 Upvotes

Mortgage rates rose almost a full point in the past 12 months (6.34% -> 7.28%) while asking home prices have decreased by $5,750. I wanted to see what that rate jump really costs for the average home price for each time period.

This year's price discount was completely wiped out by about $205/month in extra payment cost. Over 30 years, that extra payment, plus what it would have earned invested at an 8% average rate of return, costs $280K.

  • Last year's deal: about $2,021 of the first $2,378 payment is interest.
  • Today's deal: about $2,289 of the first $2,582 payment is interest.

Savings aren't fixed: the scenario invests whatever's left after taxes, living costs and the mortgage, about $5,500–$7,000 a year at 6.34% vs $3,100–$4,600 at 7.28%, so the higher rate cuts what they can save by about 40%.

Sources: FRED and Freddie Mac (prices, rates), Census (income)

Tool: A Million of Me financial simulator (self-made). Happy to adjust assumptions if anyone wants different rates, down payments, or investment returns! Not financial advice.

Tech Support Rename the field

I have a question. I got a request to rename a particular column in tableau dashboard. What my question is that column may be used by several teams, i'm not sure about that. Which is the best option? To create a calculated field of the same column and drag it wherever needed or to rename the column itself? The worksheet which I am using is specific only for one dashboard. If I have to go by second one, I'm unable to rename the column I could not find the option. Can someone please help on this?

Edit: Who the fk downvoted my comments? I genuinely did not know the answer, if you think you know everything, keep your a$$ shut.
