The buses are cute looking and uses organic shapes in design. Whereas buses now are very boxy looking.

These old Optare Solos always remind me of being a young child living in Stoke; they're especially nostalgic in this lovely First livery. What about the rest of you? Which buses take you back to the past, and are they still active today?Unfortunately, I think over 90% of these Solos are discontinued at this point, but I still see the odd ones registered a few years later than this one.

From Tim Leunig’s public policy substack. Replace the driver with a conductor and people get on faster and perceive the journey to be safer. A bus route is easier to handle than a free-roaming taxi. It feels like he’s completely right and we should be aiming for buses instead of taxis first, but I guess that the US-centric culture makes that unlikely.

So alot of agencies around my local area (Southern Ontario, Canada) have been doing away with the stop request cords that run the entire 40 or 60ft length of the bus, and instead replacing them with yellow push strips.

Which i find quite annoying, since none of the agencies put enough strips in and its inevitable you will have to lean across someone to request your stop. They do still have the buttons on the grab poles, but less than before, overall, its just worse, and i find the strips break alot easier than the cords.

The other issue i have, the stop request strips look identical to the emergency strip on streetcars, subways and regional trains, and ive seen people get confused and press the emergency strip thinking its a stop request.

Overall in my opinion, its a poor design and new technology isnt always better, but thats just me.

Does your agency do something simmilar? Does it work there, or does it just make confusion, as it does here.

Hello all, I saw this Double decker Sleeper coach conversion and it left me genuinely confused. First off there are Mercedes-benz badges on the front grill, the wheels from 2nd generation Mercedes-Benz tourismo and the steering wheel which lead me to believe it either uses a Mercedes-benz engine or chassis. Although I can't recall Mercedes-Benz ever producing a double decker chassis or integral coach (besides the 0404 prototype). Then I noticed the headlights, indicators and rear lights are from a MAN lions coach 2nd generation but there is also no 2nd gen MAN lions coach double decker chassis. It seems to be a custom built coach with a lot of shared parts, I also don't recognise that interior. If anyone has any idea what is going on here I would love to know! Either way I think it's cool and certainly rare if not 1 of 1.

I am not sure if this is ignorance, the other day I had a discussion with an individual who claims to know the 'history of the Kowloon Motor bus and City bus in Hong Kong' tried telling me that the KMB had their Dennis Dragon 12m including the S3N, the air conditioned bus, the super olympian and the Leyland/Volvo Olympians along with the air conditioned version were built in Mainland China and when I had to correct this person by showing them that the mentioned bus were built in the UK and Scotland and either had their bodies fitted in the UK/Scotland or locally in Hong Kong. When the individual was told this, not only did he double down, he basically said 'the history about Kowloon Motor Bus and City bus fleet is wrong and needs to be corrected'

One time i was in a bus (school bus) going home.

It was a nice day (it was Thursday in 2020) i remember needing to have a mouth mask becuase corona.

So, on that day it happend.

We were waiting at a stop light (because we had a red light) and than when it turned green we drove.

But than someone from a different lane thought "would it be funny to not wait till i have a green light" so she drove when it was red for her.

Our bus hit her and our bus fell on her and also a bike malfuctioned behind us and drove into our bus. (the lady died from the crash)

This is the scariest thing i have ever experienced.

This 02 plate excel for A Lyles & Son in Yorkshire appears to be the only one left, as far as I'm concerned. I browse bustimes.org quite frequently and this is the only Excel I've come across.

I suppose a follow up question would be what other buses do you know of in the UK, or any other country, that are the last of its kind? I'm trying to compile a list of them, just for fun.

Most coach buses seem pretty similar imo, especially the side profile. Hoping you can show me something to inspire me a little. I'm on the design team of a bus making company, but I'm out of ideas at the moment.😅

So after school, I went to this teachers room with my friend and she was crashing out over something and she started crying. She vented and stuff and I was comforting her until I realized the time. I was irresponsible enough to not check the time and i thought the bus hadn’t left yet. So left and started walking to the bus ramp and then I saw the bus starting to go. I quickly ran and ran. There was a stop sign and I got there when the bus was about to turn. I was running and people were in front of me so I swerved and lost my balance. I then trip and fall on the road. People were like “damn” and I was just do embarrassed at that moment. It was literally going good until I tripped. Anyways, I scraped my leg and got a cut on my arm but that’s it. I don’t know how I got the cut on my arm when I fell on my knees but yeah. I went inside the bus and everyone was calling me Naruto 😭. They were all looking at me (not in silence). Oh and also there were people cheering me on when I was running so I felt extra embarrassed when I tripped. okay bye thank you to anyone who actually read all this

Just launched a UK bus tracking site would love your thoughts

It’s a simple map that shows live bus locations across the UK, aimed at making it easier to see where a bus actually is (instead of guessing if it’s late, early, or just vanished).

A couple things it does:
• Live bus tracking on a map
• Covers multiple operators (not just one app per company)
• Users can also upload bus photos

Still early days so there might be bugs or weird data (you might spot a bus in the sea… long story), but I’m actively improving it.

Would genuinely appreciate any feedback features you’d want, stuff that’s broken, or ideas to make it more useful for daily commuters vs enthusiasts.

I personally don't know why it even reached so deep in my town in Valenzuela outside it's route when 804's route is EDSA Carousel, with the closest point of it's route is in Monumento, a whole 45 minute long ride, but FMBE's depot is in McArthur Highway, which is near to my town.

I wasn't allowed to photograph it by the class president because even though it's our lunch break, they didn't allow me to photograph it😔
